I can see how Lendl and Expert can benefit their guys. But Becker, I'm big fan of his and even emulated his knee bend to produce mph on serves, but as far as being a coach, imo not so. Congrats to Stan, great guy my little brother spotted him in a crowd in so ho New york a few yrs back, took a pic with him, he's a pleasant dude. Given his last 2 battles with Novak went the distance he was gonna get him sooner or later.

That last volley from Djokovic was actually a signal to Boris:"You're fired"!

For those non-troll fans of Djokovic, I genuinely feel sorry for your loss. He will win more slams in the future.

What? Are you referring to predicting Federer to lose a set to Tsonga after having dominated that set being up 5-2? :)

No, I am talking of everything I said about Nadal being a lock for the final and Djoker not so.

(Abt the Fed-Tsonga match, in all fairness, I had no frigging idea that Fed was GOATing because I wasn't watching the match just following the match thread here, I just thought it is the 2013 Fed that showed up. I don't think anyone dreamt that Fed would show up in vintage form)

What was Djokovic doing on that final point:?:?:?:shock::shock:

the lost dark art of serving and volleying, once practiced by sorcerers like Edberg and Rafter and Sampras, and Novak's coach Boris Becker...you can Wiki it

p.s. tennis writer Christopher Clarey of the New York Times tweeted that Novak just set it back another thirty years

I will admit to not liking Djokovic, but, I must also admit I appreciate the sportsmanship at the end of the match. Well done.

Well you weren't properly listening to the posts in the thread from people who were actually watching the match.

I agree, it is a hell of a difference reading commentary on a match and actually watching it. People can exaggerate a lot when posting here, so you got to take it with a pinch of salt. I admitted as much on the match thread itself that I couldn't believe how well Fed was playing.

so that's his role now?...he did it to Novak at the French one year, right?...not playing at all

You gotta admit that it's a really strange coincidence.

In 2011 Djoko was literally unbeatable until that point, misses his match with Fognini due to the retirement of the italian, gets beat by Fed in RG.

In 2014 he is on another streak, I think 20 something matches, and at his best slam to boot, meets Fognini, next round the SF streak is broken.

Djoko should beware any time Fognini is in his side of the draw.

Won't lie. This is heartbreaking. :( Too many heartbreaks in the last 1 year. It is not about the loss but about the manner in which he is losing.

It is Polish. He is half Polish.

Actually, I read that his dad is German with Czech ancestry but has a Polish surname originating from relatives who lived in in a border region between Poland and former Czechoslovakia. His mother is Swiss. Stan has Swiss and German citizenship. So, at least according to Wikipedia, Stan actually isn't half Polish.

Brilliant match, brilliant full-of-guts competing by both players.

Both should be congratulated.

Winner: both of them are 'winners' in any tennis fan's book and just as important: the sport of tennis came out the winner in this one.

Well played gents!

Well said. I think the match last year though was better.

Predicting that the number #1 player in the world will reach the final is not really a bold prediction is it?

Yes, you called Delpo might lose before hand in the thread you started, but you also called this:

Murray is highly unlikely to make it to Nadal given he is not yet back to his full fitness post surgery.

Federer making it to Nadal is out of question (but Federer is Nadal's pigeon anyway and poses no greater threat to Nadal at this point than, say, Almagro)

Now it's 100 % that either of these guys will meet Nadal/Dimitrov.

You will always try to find an excuse for why Nadal is winning predicting that he only faces "pigeons", "lapdogs", "cans", "out of form players", "players who he has a match up advantage against". There's always an asterisk, always some external factors, always some sort of conspiracy or divine intervention favouring Nadal.

Your behaviour is deeply rooted in insecurity. Fed's legacy is safe. Calm down.

Well done Stan. I was rooting for him. It would have been sad if he lost 3 five setters against Novak. Novak didn't play at his best but these things happen. Nothing can stop Rafa now.

Congrats to Stan. I didn't think he could pull it off. What an upset.

Pretty much everyone's pick to win the Aussie Open is out.

The field really open's up now. Too bad Fed wasn't on this side of the draw. I'll be rooting for Stan to beat the bird man. I hope there is no let down.

I really like Nadal's chances now.

Gratz Stan, had the heart and determination to go all out. He will likely reach the final, he will be more motivated. Also Stan has a better chance performing in the final than Berdych,

I can see how Lendl and Expert can benefit their guys. But Becker, I'm big fan of his and even emulated his knee bend to produce mph on serves, but as far as being a coach, imo not so. One of the commentators on Aussie Open radio said he doesn't see how Becker's coaching would benefit Novak. Interesting to see if there is any fall out from this loss.
