djNEiGht,

No, you only need one review. However, we would like you to try it a couple different ways whether it be tension or in different racquets.

Brittany, TW

Thanks for the clarification Brittany.

One more question: There is a tension range listed on the package: 22 kg to 30 kg and for us the USA - 48 lbs to 66 lbs.

Many of us are now stringing lower than 48 lbs (22 kg) as a general rule. Would you like us to stay in the listed range or use our normal tension?

^Here's your answer.
Hi Jim!

We tested this in the lab and the stiffness value puts it closer to a solid core nylon or medium-firm multi. We have to run more tests to confirm this, but I'd say you are safe using your nylon reference.

Thanks,
Jon

Strung up today on my P.S. 6.1. 95. Lots of coil memory and pretty stiff during the stringing. Will play with it 2 hours tonight. It feels very slippery so I'm sure snap back will be good initially.

I strung it up today. Very easy to install because it is so smooth. Seems pretty powerful just bouncing balls off it. I'm going to play some doubles tomorrow with it.

Let us know how it compares to X1 or whatever poly you think it closely resembles. I am always on the hunt for the a better hybrid cross to replace my L-tec 4S though at the current price point, the Babolat better be an significant improvement in performance.

I'd say the closest string to Origin is X1. I smoked a few forehands today like I rarely do. It took me about 5 minutes to even hit a ball out in the warm up.

Do you think it's worth the price since it's $6 more than X1? It would be nice to know if this will be better than the Laserfibre Super Natural Pro Stock which I never got to try .

I hit for half an hour and then played 2 very lazy doubles sets today. I'll have to test it out in battle more. Today was not my best day for connecting the ball with the strings but man when you hit the sweetspot, it feels terrific.

Is it worth the price? If it lasts a long time, I'll say maybe. If they lower the price then my answer would change to a probably.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it. I'm curious as to why they sent out 3 sets versus offering a single set to a larger test group.

This is a very unique string, a synthetic "fused" monofilament (we call it a super multi in the office)...are we're really excited about it.

We wanted people to be able to experiment with tension, rackets, etc. Nailing the right set up the first time with a new string can be hit or miss.

OK, that makes sense. For those following along, I agree with TW on their recommendation to string this at your standard nylon tension. The string has some nice power and going at a lower tension might result in loss of control.

I know its still early days in your playtest but can you comment on the spin and power of this string? Im particularly interested to see if it has better spin potential than synthetic gut and multi strings.

I don't have much time on it yet. The spin potential seems to be on the high end when compared to synthetic guts and multis. As I've already mentioned, this string is like X1 and Monogut in terms of power. Like those two strings, it is not springy either.

I strung this up at 52 cp. My 1st impressions was comfort, control and easy power. Didn't have a great day hitting clean and went home with 1 and 1 record...

My usual pref for tensions are

Poly 45 to 48

Hybrid (poly/syn) 50/52

synthetic 55

multi 55-60.

That sounds promising. I played with the prestrung excel when I got my aeropro drive back in the summer but after about 2 hours it was way too powerful. I'm hoping that origin strung at a higher tension will have better spin, more control and providing comfort while my wrist is still a bit tender. Looking forward to reading the reviews when they come in. Seems like a really exciting string.

Well, X-1 that is Not pre-stretched and strung fresh is pretty springy and powerful, I know.
If this string can provide same power as X-1 but provide good control and predictable response fresh strung then we have a REEALY good stuff in making......could be the Goat.

and may work great as Hybrid with polys like Alu power or RPM blast.

As I mentioned earlier I thought this string was very powerful and comfortable but I thought it generated very little spin in a full bed or as a cross is a hybrid. I will try stringing it tighter. What tensions did you guys use in a 95 square inch racquet?

When you say little spin what are you comparing to? All strings? Polyester strings?

this string needs to be strung tight. I will submit my full review next week. But i strung two sticks. Wilson 100blx. one at 58lbs. and one at 54lbs. Its a very hard string as opposed to lets say X1. But i would say stick in the upper fifties. Reason being the stick that was strung at 54, started to have string movement after one hour of play. And the stick i strung up at 58, after over a week, has little to no movement. And i dont find it to be that powerful. No way near as x1 biphase. And that is not an insult. I like this firm response better. I will give a real report next week, when im done. This stuff is more like NXT Tour meets poly.

review from danbrenner::

on second thought. Im ready to give my review. I am a baseline basher. 4.0 NTRP, with an improving net game. I play about 4x per week, at an indoor club in NJ. I usually use 100sq inch sticks, like the Wilson 100 blx used in this playtest, or APD type axes. I always use polys. Typically lux. alu power/4g/rpm blast/cyclone.. usually 17 gage, and i string them at about 50lbs. I am most comfortable at the baseline, and use heavy semi western strokes to create heavy forehands that create my winners. This string needs to be strung tight. I strung two sticks. Wilson 100blx. one at 58lbs. and one at 54lbs. Its a very hard string as opposed to lets say X1. But i would say stick in the upper fifties. Reason being the stick that was strung at 54, started to have string movement after one hour of play. And the stick i strung up at 58, after about two weeks, has little to no movement. And i dont find it to be that powerful. No way near as x1 biphase. And that is not an insult. I like this firm response better. This stuff is more like NXT Tour meets poly. X1 has a softer response. Again, i prefer polys, so for me, this wins out. so as for POWER:: average to slightly above average. 7/10 I expected it to be more powerful based on what the package says, but no, the response for me is a muted NXT, or a powerful poly if that makes sense. When i take a good cut at the ball, i can feel the ball pocket very well, and then launch out. Now for FEEL:: Muted and crisp. Thank goodness, i dont get that launch feeling that i get out of the usual nylons. This is a super controlled somewhat stiff feeling string. Nothing like i have ever tried. But at 58lbs which is what i strongly recommend, its stiff and crisp and muted at the same time. I know thats confusing. Its like NXT meets a poly. Best comparison i can give. ill give it a 7/10.. Not as good as X1 for feel, nowhere near as good as gut for feel you can feel that this is a synthetic type sting. now on to SPIN:: spin is average. because of the fact that i needed to have it strung at 58 and the stick i strung at 54 was not ideal, the 58lbs didnt allow for tremendous spin. This is not a string for a spin junkie. But it is better that X! or NXT for spin. I regard those as being rather poor for spin. So this exceeded my expectations for spin. And i dont find Vs gut to be so spinny either when strung on its own in a full bed. So again, i was happy with the 6/10 for spin. Now to COMFORT:: Very nice on comfort. No issue bashing the ball over a two week period. 9/10
DURABILITY: Excellent. Some minor fraying after two weeks. The stick strung up at 58 is good to go for another week or two. Im very very impressed with the durabilty. The stick strung at 54 has issues. The strings move too often. Pain in the neck. I stopped using it after a few sessions. 8/10
PLAYABILITY DURATION: After two weeks of hard hitting, my main stick the one strung at 58 has notched a little. to be expected. Its fraying alittle But the playabitly is better than the first day. it feels a little softer, and broken in. The strings still dont move much. Im very impressed. For a non poly this is superb. Ill give it an 8/10.
I recommed 58lbs in a 100 sp inch frame. mabe 55 in a 95. But in a full bed, this stuff needs to be strung tight. Otherwise it moves around. My stick strung at 58 made it through some nice hitting, and is still in my racquet now. It seems that it will play until it pops. Hybriding my be cool. Im really not sure what to think about that. But i think a full bed will suit a wide variety of people. I will not make the switch, because i need the full on bite and spin of a poly. But anyone who plays with a full bed of gut/multi/nylon should please give this a try. Its like a cross between a poly and a multi/nylon/gut. I hope this helps. Thank you so much Babolat, and TW for this great playtest opportunity.

Hey Mikeler, (btw, I always find your posts very informative)

While stringing up the Origin it felt very stiff so in my head I was expecting it to have the spin of a poly. Then I went and hit with it and found it was not generating that amount of spin so I was a little disappointed. I did have it strung pretty low, 52 lbs in my Wilson P.S. 6.1.95 blx. There was a whole lot of string movement and I had to consciously think about applying extra spin during my stroke. I sent quite a few balls long on groundies and couldn't get the normal spin on my second serve like I'm used to. It was quite powerful and there was string movement after about an hour. From reading others posts I think I may benefit from stringing tighter. I am going to try it at 57 lbs which should be a large enough difference that I can notice some sort of difference whether positive or negative.

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): Baseliner (more towards the defensive spectrum of baselining.

Current racquet/string: Babolat Aero Storm Tour w. PHT/VS

Tension used for play test: 62

Regular string set up: PHT/VS @ 55/58

Racquet brand and model used for test: Babolat Aero Storm Tour

Power of test string: High! Felt very high powered even at 62!

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Super soft IMO. As some are saying, it feels as soft as X-1.

Spin: Unfortunately this was the drawback for me. I could hardly get the spin I'm used to, but it seems this isn't just something I've experienced.

Comfort: Very comfortable string. I don't suffer from tennis elbow, so this wouldn't be an issue for me, but this string was very comfortable.
On the comfort level, this was also easy for me to string up (about the same level of a multi)

Durability: so far so good. four 1.5 hour hitting sessions since I strung up the 17th (would've loved to have more but it has been insanely cold in GA!) and I'm not really noticing any signs of drastic wear or fraying.
Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): So far, no noticeable changes in tension yet. Will update as time progresses.

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): This possibly has to do with the tension that I have strung it at but the directional control is great!

Compare to the string you use most often: On a softness level, X-1, NXT. This might be a string I try as an alternative to VS mains. I'm actually looking forward to trying a set-up with this in the mains and pht crosses.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?): I am going to drop the tension a few pounds the next time I string up to try to get a bit more spin out of this.

I noticed that quite a few of my 2nd serves were hitting the top of the tape. That could be due to me being used to full poly right now.

Do you think that is because with full poly your confident to take a full swing because you know it will spin in? Might you be taking a little off your normal power because you're worried it's going to go deep?

or

You notice many serves hitting the tape because you are generating much more spin with the Origin strings and balls are dipping sooner?

I'm not really sure why.

I'm not really sure why.

Because less spin equals a lower arc and or trajectory. These strings in a full bed are really nice for flat hitting. But don't have the bite and spin of polys. I think that hybriding them with a poly can help spin issues. But I did not hybrid them myself and don't know how they would react.

I think it's because polys are strung lower and have a higher launch angle (off the stringbed) and a higher natural trajectory.

Some good theories here men! I did try it as a cross with MSV focus Hex mains. It still didn't provide much spin and the coating on the string got roughed up because I was playing on Har-tru courts leading to less spin. I am going to try it as a main string next.

Any thoughts on if I should cross it with a poly or Gosen OGSM? I would like to generate the most spin.

Play test cut short...ugh

Thank you Babolat and Tennis Warehouse for letting us every day internet groupies take part in this highly valued product. To top that off, we got multiple sets!!! Thank you again.

I normally save my play tests till near the dead line so that I can put as much time into my review. Alas I am not able to continue playing at this time due to injury.

Tennis experience/background:

Recreational player. 90% doubles. Interclub tournament participant at the B/3.5-4.0 level

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley):

Not a typical serve/chip and volley player but will pressure to get to the net on any possibility. Eastern/Semi-Western forehand and 1HBH

Current racquet/string:

Boris Becker DC London with Volkl Cyclone 48# CP or Cyclone/Synthetic Gut 50/52#

Tension used for playtest

52# CP. Racquet Tune measured 3.6% loss after 6 hours and 4.1% after 24 hours still fresh. 6.5% loss after 1st day of play. Tension loss as of review is at 9.8%

Regular string set up

See above

Racquet brand and model used for test

See above

Power of test string

Power came easy when fresh. After a few days of playing, the power seemed to drop and I struggled to get ground shots past the base line. Would probably try setting it up a couple pounds lower next time around to compensate for the loss of power.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?)

It was as if Muted and Crisp had a child. The muted side comes out at the base line and the Crisp side came out on volleys

Spin

Ground strokes provided a decent amount of spin but not rough poly like spin. I was able to dial my ground strokes but had trouble with my high spin kicker serve. I had to lower my 2nd serve trajectory which if it had enough pace was still effective. If there was no pace the ball sat up for the opponent to crush it.

Comfort

Very comfortable and pillow like. This is a good string for those looking to soften up a stiff frame, need poly like control yet has a tender elbow.

Durability

I don't normally play with 16g and or break strings. This will probably last a long time and I will end up cutting it out before it breaks. I had some notching on the mains and some of the crosses looked like it was past the outer layer.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time)

There was a quick break in period and played consistent in terms of control and spin. What changed for me was the power level seemed to go down. The strings also started to stick a little and snap back wasn't as good. This was nothing like synthetic gut though (yet could possibly well be after a few more games)

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)

This string shined for me here. I found myself picking my corners of the service box on my 1st serves. Ground strokes also found themselves going left or right as dictated. Unlike some other multi/synthetics, the control level stayed on par during the duration of play.

Compare to the string you use most often

Cyclone 17g full bed at 48 or Cyclone/Synthetic 17g at 50/52. There was more comfort with Origin and ground stroke control and less spin.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)

I would probably lower the tension a couple pounds as it seemed that the the major change I found in this string was the loss of power.

List any additional thoughts (optional)

I would have probably played with this string for a very long time but came under injury. I tore my calf muscle this past weekend during a match. I am on crutches, can't drive and am on RICE :( One of the factors I consider when to cut out a string is when they stop snapping back. Polys are very early and synthetics I will play a while longer even with string movement. My next set of the 16g I will consider in a hybrid. Should I go full bed I will put it in my Prince POG MP as it is a very open string patter.

Spin: Average for a Multi
Comfort: Very High

Durability: Acceptable. No sign of fraying
Playability Duration 6 hours of play over 12 days, still playable

Compare to the string I use most often: I get 15 to 20 hours out of a Monogut cross This held up very well in a full bed, but given my frame I would only use this string as a cross for my various polys. At the current price, I'm not sure if it is cost effective for me. I string for a couple of Natural Gut players who might enjoy this in their wet clay racket.

Tension recommendations As tight as you normally string a multi

Additional Comments Very interesting string. I plan to revisit this string during the warm weather outdoor season to see if it holds up on outdoor red & green clays. Thank you Babolat & TW

Semi-Pro
Stringing: Easy to string, slippery due to the coating.

Tension used for playtest:

1. 54# mains and crosses
2. 58# mains and crosses
3. 50# mains and crosses
All two piece string jobs on a lockout machine.

Regular string set up: Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough @ 48#, same setup as used for this playtest.

Racquet brand and model used for test: Dunlop Bio 200 Lite (95 sq in., 16x19)

About me: I'm a mid 30's 4.0 singles/doubles player with a windshield wiper FH and a 2HBH. I played the string for about 8 hours of hitting with a partner, 10 sets of doubles, and about 300 serves out of the hopper.

Power of test string: 4/5. The power level was relatively high. I usually play full bed poly and this is quite a bit more lively than other setups I use. The power was even good at 58#.

Feel: 4.5/5. I almost forgot how good a quality "multi" (can we even call it that?) feels for spinny touch shots and volleys. This string gives very nice feedback at all three tensions I played.

Spin: 3.5/5. I was pleasantly surprised by the spin production of this string. I was expecting a need to flatten my normally very topspin-oriented strokes but I started off playing normally and really wasn't hitting an inordinate amount of balls long. Forehands were diving like they usually do when I play with poly and my backhand felt nice and connected with a fair amount of topspin. My 3.5 rating is considering its spin production level versus ANY string (even the various polys I've played). Very respectable and a technical achievement by Babolat, in my opinion. My favorite tension was 54#.

Comfort: 5/5. Outstanding comfort. No pain or string-related fatigue at all.

Durability: 3/5. I broke the 50# and the 58# during the playtest. I'm used to poly being very durable so I wasn't expecting a lot in this department since this is a "multi". I guess they're pretty average.

Playability Duration: 3/5. Just OK. I could feel the greatness of these strings fading quickly before I broke a string. I switched to the freshly strung 58# and could immediately tell the difference in string characteristics. Basically, the magic was back.

Control: 4.5/5. While they lasted, the control was great. Volleying was exceptional and I was able to serve extremely well with these strings.

Compare to the string you use most often: The spin production was definitely lacking compared to BHBR but the string made up for that in having outstanding balance between spin, power, and control. This is probably the best all around string I've ever played but, having said that, I still feel like BHBR fits my game a little better and I feel more confident playing aggressively with the heavier ball I'm able to pull off with poly.

Tension recommendations: I always play poly between 45 and 50# and these strings seemed to work well at 54#. I can't imagine gaining anything for my playstyle by changing the tension.

Final thoughts: It seems like a great string for people who don't rely so much on heavy topspin as a weapon but who also don't want to spring for gut. It's very expensive but, if you're looking for the best multi performance money can buy, you may want to give these a look as they're much better than X-1 and Prince Premier Attack (two excellent multis I've played), in my opinion.

Thanks again for the opportunity, TW!

Ok, I got to try that Origin string 16 g. Perhaps it was because this was 16 G ? I am really used to using 17 G and 18 G multis. Feel on this string was disappointing, felt like Paper, kind of deadish feel. so I didnt' have precision accuracy with this string.

But surprisingly very powerful string. Power rating is up there with X-1 biphase. Spin was decent, nothing to brag about, but good for synthetic string, 7 out of 10. This string works well in Full bed and in Hybrid with Proline 2 and Alu power rough.

I am going to give another shot at this with 17 gauge and see if that one feels any different.

does anyone have a 1/2 set they are willing to give up? Would love to give these a try

Just order a set from tennis warehouse. They have both 16 G and 17 G now. it is definitely a worth the try. Power on this string was surprising to me. Feel and Control didn't blow me away. It is pretty good, feel was not as good as X-1 biphase but very good compared to other multis or synthetics.

I played in a round robin mixed doubles on Friday night and just couldn't get my rhythm with my ground strokes so didn't want to comment to much just yet. I went and hit today and much better session. still want to take it out with the ball machine and hit my usual patterns to see how it feels.

Default Stringing: Easy to string,

Regular string set up: Gamma TNT2 RX mains @51#/ Gamma TNT2 crosses @53#, same setup I used for this play test.

Racquet brand and model used for test: Head Graphene Radical Pro (98 sq in., 16x19)

About me: I'm a mid 40's 4.0/4.5 left handed singles/doubles player with a monster 2HBH and big topspin FH

Power of test string: 4/5.

Feel: 3.5/5. Rated this a little lower as with my TNT2 strings I can hit perfect drop shots and can't quite get the same touch with the origin. possibly adjusting tension will correct this small issue.

Spin: 4/5. I was pleasantly surprised by the spin production of this string.

Comfort: 4/5. good comfort. minor pressure in elbow but is more than acceptable considering the limited amount of strings I can use.

Durability: unknown at this time after playing twice for 2 hours strings show very minor notching

Playability Duration: after only 2 short sessions unable to determine playability at this time

Control: 4.5/5. control was great. Volleying was crisp and I was able to serve extremely well with these strings.

Compare to the string you use most often: I like the power and control achieved with this string combination. A lot of action on serves, pretty much don't hit flat serves to combination between kick servers and slice serves causes a lot of issues for opponent. So far not hitting as consistent with the TNT2 RX but need to find a string that is more durable.

Tension recommendations: would suggest starting out with your same tension as your current strings and adjust as needed. (suggestion from Babolat representative)

Final thoughts: will update after more time

Did you test the 16 G or 17 G ? I tried the 16 G and just couldn't get the feel I usually get with X-1 17 G string. Not sure if that was due to thicker gauge. and I only tried the string for 2 hours. Wonder if it gets better the longer I use the string ?

I'm using the 16G because I'm breaking strings too fast with 17G. When I was using the X-1 16G I was breaking it in around 5 hours or 2-3 times playing.

Excluding the playtest (per the playtest ROE), as anyone try using Origin in a hybrid? Particularly a Steam 99S?

I like the Steam 99S, but not the stiffness. I like poly in a hybrid with X-/NRG/Multi-feel/PPA. Since Babolat Origin is a monofilament that feels like a mulit, I am curious how this would work in a Steam 99S as hybrid. I saw it in 5.0's Babolat PLAY Pure Drive with Pro Hurricane Tour and he suggested it for my Steam 99S since he knows I don't like full poly. He thought it might work cheaper than the gut/poly hybrids in the Steam 99S.

I understand the playtest said no hybrids, but someone who didn't get a set might have tried a Poly/Origin hybrid like Parasailing and I both like.

I've got a pack and half (not from TW's playtest) and will hybrid a Steam 99S with Yonex PPT 130. I am going to try PPT mains / Origin crosses first, then switch the Origin to the mains in a 2nd Steam 99S.

Hope this works out. It would be cheaper than gut/poly in the Steam 99S and softer than full poly.

This is a very unique string, a synthetic "fused" monofilament (we call it a super multi in the office)...are we're really excited about it.

We wanted people to be able to experiment with tension, rackets, etc. Nailing the right set up the first time with a new string can be hit or miss.

Babolat Official any word of selling this by the reel?

Out?

Rookie
Tennis experience/background: Competitive and active tournament player at the 4.0 NTRP level. Competes in both singles and doubles.

Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley): All court player. Mainly plays from baseline until gets an opportunity to move to the net. Will serve and volley occasionally and can execute well.

Current racquet/string: 2013 Babolat Aero Pro Drive Plus with Adrenaline Rough at 55lbs

Tension used for playtest: 55 lbs, 50lbs, 60lbs (the review is for the 55lbs. they all played fairly similar only difference is the power level which personally i felt did not affect control too much but did the amount of free power. 60lbs felt very nice since the power level is high and 50lbs still had control but the launch angle was altered slightly.)

Regular string set up: Luxilon Adrenaline Rough at 55lbs

Racquet brand and model used for test: 2013 Babolat Aero Pro Drive Plus

Power of test string: High. This string was powerful but controllable. Definately higher than most synthetics and averages mulitis. This aspect shines for me as the power was very much controllable and i did not feel a lost in control or fear the ball sailing long

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp?): Crisp. felt very solid on volleys and groundstrokes. Kick Serves felt a bit strange at first but you can adjust to it very fast.
Spin: Decent. This aspect wasn't as well as i hoped. It is slightly higher than the average synthetic string and but not by much. Kick serves struggled a bit and finding the penetrating spin on groundstrokes were a bit hard to find.

Comfort: Very comfortable. ive never had any arm or shoulder pain beore and this did not aggravate any

Durability: Lasted about 4 hours for me. Pretty good. a couple less hours less than my normal set up but its to be expected since adrenaline is poly.

Playability Duration (share thoughts on if/how the playability changed over time): It played fairly well throughout hte play test. about 3 hours in it began to lose a lot of tension and control suffered greatly. i had to alter my swing a bit. the first 3 hours was very consistent except for the initial drop in tension

Control (predictable trajectory? Easy to control depth? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) This string has very nice control. Trajectory is always predictable. although precision is not perfect, depth and directional control is very nice. slice topspin forehand and topspin backhand all followed accordingly to the above statement.

Compare to the string you use most often: Compared to the Luxilon Adrenaline rough, it has a lot more power, less spin and felt more comfortable. This is generally how a synthetic or multi compares to a poly however i felt that this string is a lot more comfortable and powerful than the average synthetic or multi.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension? Why?)
I prefered 55lbs as opposed to 50lbs or 60lbs. 50lbs provided a bit too much free power for me and 60lbs provided a bit too less power for me. 55 was the perfect blend of power comfort and control
List any additional thoughts (optional)
I really like this string but with its lack of spin potential i think it does better in a hybrid. I will probably change my main setup to Luxilon Adrenaline rough in mains and Origin in crosses.
