Not surprised at all by this news. I'm more surprised that Nishikori was able to complete back-to-back matches of the caliber that he did without coming up lame.

This is the norm for him and the biggest reason his ceiling is limited until it changes. Almost every time I've ever seen him pushed physically, he comes up injured soon after.

I don't fault him for withdrawing at all, but how can you give him any chance to win a major event knowing what is required in the later rounds to pull it off.

This would explain his somewhat erratic play in the third set against Fed. Anyone know what the injury was?

This guy really moves - he is very fast and has good anticipation and it looks like that speed can result in injuries.

You'd think he would have gone into the match with some confidence considering he bagelled Djokovic the last time they met in a semi-final! :)

Djoko's had a nice easy stroll to the final at this year's Miami. Is he the only player on tour who's 100% fit these days? His opponents either seem to be too injured to play him or are just coming back from one!

Maybe it's time EVERYBODY switched to the gluten-free diet?

Don't forget Murray also had a nice easy stroll two years ago!

Djokovic has got a WO by the looks of it on the ATP website. There is a tick by Djokovic's name with no scores:-

Tennis: Nishikori out of Miami, hands Djokovic final spot

MIAMI (AFP) - Japan's Kei Nishikori took to Twitter Friday to announce his withdrawal from the ATP Miami Masters, where he had been due to take on Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

"Very sorry to say that I have to pull out today," said Nishikori. "Very disappointed and I am obviously very sorry for any fans that wanted to come out for this match."

The 24-year-old Japanese player, who upset Swiss great Roger Federer to reach the second Masters semi-final of his career, didn't specify his reason for pulling out, but tournament officials later tweeted that he had a groin injury.

His withdrawal gives world number two Djokovic a walkover into Sunday's final, where he'll face either world number one Rafael Nadal or Czech Tomas Berdych.

This is total BS - They should consider bringing the lucky loser [in this case would be Fed] - especially in later stages of a masters - this is total BS

Nah, he's the only fit guy out there. Rafa's still recovering from the trauma of almost getting Meeloshed yesterday!

I feel like a walkover at this stage is a kind of lose-lose situation. Djokovic will go into the final having played only 3 matches out of a possible 5 so he'll obviously be more rusty compared to whoever he plays.

On the other hand if he does win the final there will be some people saying that he got lucky and that there should be an asterix put next to the title. So I actually feel sorry for Nole as the situation that has presented itself is completely out of his control. :(

Where have you heard any of us doing that?

It's piling up already, it's a win-win situation for both of the fan bases (Naddul and Murray). These are the likely outcomes of what will be said:

If Djokovic wins:

1) Cakewalk draw
2) Only 4 matches
3) Net incident
4) Deserves a Asterix/ Obelix/Getafix on Djokovic's trophy

If Djokovic loses:

1) LOL Couldn't even win with a cakewalk draw
2) What goes around, comes around (cheating and all that crap)

^^^Same as what happened to Stan in Australia......one retirement, a WO and an injured final opponent.

All of the above would be true.

I feel sorry for the people who have bought tickets. Rafa is a true champion, turning up when he knew he couldn't compete. Vamos Rafa!

The defeated player from the previous round should play and points and prize money should be reversed. So Fed should play Djoker and get the points and prize money for the SF and Nishikori should get the points and prize money for the Qtrs.

They should just accept the asterisk and not go around blabbing like Stan has been doing.

LOL it has nothing to do with accepting. At the end of the day Stan is the AO champion and hopefully Nole will be on Sunday in Miami. The record books don't mention or care about asteriks!

just saw this on Twitter...

"0.2% of tour-level matches are decided by w/o. However, top 5 in rankings (since '91) win 0.6% by w/o. May be b/c more w/o's in later rds."

also, I don't know how this lucky loser thing mid tourney people are yelling for is supposed to work...Fed is long gone...what, you expect him to hang around?...players leave, fans stay...and in this case, yes, get screwed

thought maybe Novak could stay and hit with some kids that showed up...give 'em a thrill, and make their parents happy

Is it just me that feel Djokovic gets walkovers often in his matches than other players? Anyway its not his fault but interesting to note. Whether this walkover will be upside or downside for him in the final remains to be seen until tomorrow.

I checked and he has only gotten 5 since 2010. I didn't check before that. 2 were in this tournament and one was recently in Dubai. The last one before that was 3 years ago at the 2011 French Open.

Since 2010, He is 2-3 in matches played following a walkover. 2 of those losses were to Federer and 1 was to Youzhny.

I'd like to think I'd rise above it all and just accept that these things happen and that it's nobody's fault.

Of course. I can only speak for myself, but I don't blame Djokovic, Becker, Uncle Vajayjay, or Djokovic's poodle for anything. Just harmless fun, although I would see how it's annoying when a lot of people do it.

Count your blessings that you were not a Nadal fan after AO. This is just a pleasant breeze compared to the tornado of sh/tstorm that fell upon Nadal fans in that inglorious day.

Djokovic just finished interview with Fowler and BG...very comfortable in that situation in the booth

Nothing was wrong with Nadal at AO, just playing up to his old tricks as usual.

BTW, Nadal has a walkover in his next match.
