Not surprised at all by this news. I'm more surprised that Nishikori was able to complete back-to-back matches of the caliber that he did without coming up lame.
This is the norm for him and the biggest reason his ceiling is limited until it changes. Almost every time I've ever seen him pushed physically, he comes up injured soon after.
I don't fault him for withdrawing at all, but how can you give him any chance to win a major event knowing what is required in the later rounds to pull it off.
