Best shots aesthetically

In terms of pure aesthetics, which shots do you consider to be/have been the most attractive in tennis? Here are mine:

Serve

Sampras
Federer
Safin

Forehand

Federer
Agassi

Federer
Wawrinka
Edberg

(not a fan of Gasquet's BH aesthetically - I find it to be flamboyant in a homosexual sort of way. I'm not kidding.)

Safin
Nalbandian
Baghdatis

This is a question not worth asking. The first five spots in nearly every category are owned by Federer.

If you make it current players, make that the first ten slots in every category being owned by Federer.

I've always found Federers backhand to be one of the least aesthetically pleasing shots in tennis, I really do despise it. His forehand looks great but his backhand is just blurgh

Same. I also have found that Djokovic's overhead is the most aesthetically pleasing shots I've ever seen. The way he misses is just beauty to the eye.

Seriously though, Federer is by far the most aesthetically pleasing player in all areas that I've ever seen. The guy is just so fluid and makes every shot look so effortless. GOAT skills, he has.

Backhand - Piolen (sp?) should be considered, its a loopier version of Edberg

FH volley - Mac
BH Volley - Edberg

Please note I can't comment pre-80.

Not sure depending on what you mean with aesthetically.
I'd definitely say Roger Federer for the forehand anyway.

Notice Nadal will never appear on any aesthetic lists.

I know this will rustle some jimmies, but I think Nadal's backhand is pretty aesthetically pleasing.

His forehand isn't as pleasing, but it is really interesting how his technique differs.

Sampras serve probably has the most perfect form past or present. His backhand looked kinda ugly though. Agassi's backhand is also perfect in form. Federer's movement is the most aesthetically pleasing part in his game. My favorite shot, however, is the Sampras flying smash!

This might be a minority opinion, but i find Andy Murray's backhand to be quite aesthetically pleasing. Especially the crosscourt passing shot.

Nadal's forehand is an obvious one. I think someone once said that Federer doesn't do anything amazing, but just does everything pretty good. I think i'd agree with that.

It's these sorts of posts that make people feel you take pleasure in belittling the guy. I don't see much of a reason to get snarky simply because a lot of people think his tennis is easy on the eyes. It's a completely subjective thing anyway. What shots do you think looked the best?

To answer the question, I like Federer's forehand, Edberg and Wawrinka and Nalbandian's backhands, Becker's serve, Edberg's volleys, and Hewitt's lobs.

I tried not to come up with Fed over and over, but he really does have a great looking game.

He sure generated a lot of "oohs" and "ahhhs" and "that is RIDICULOUS" remarks for someone who "doesn't do anything amazing, but just does everything pretty good."

Also, I find Nadal's forehand to be the ugliest shot in the history of tennis. But you're entitled to think the elephant man is the best-looking man ever if you wish.

Supertegwyn, Federer's backhand is yet aesthetical. His problem: It does not work against Nadal...

DolgoSantoro, I don't belittle Federer. My post was a reaction to a post where Federer leads in EVERY category.

Most Federer fans (and current era's tennis fans at all) forget or don't know about the players before Sampras and McEnroe.

Serve: Pancho Gonzalez had the most effective and yet aesthetically shot.

BH: Rosewall had the best and most aesthetically shot.

Federer is tops in almost every cathegory, except:

Return: Agassi
Volley: Edberg
DH backhand: Nalbandian, Safin

Nalbandian is also on par with the slices. A thing of beauty.

Serve- Boris Becker

Not the best serve but the whole 30 second preparation, through the shot and even the facial expression and spastic non-hitting arm position at contact was aesthetically pleasing. He looked like he was putting every thing into the shot and his face looked like he was passing everything out his butt. It was a truly brutal display. Even Roddick who hitter harder basically did look like he was making the effort. When Becker missed his 1st serve he still wandered pass the service line like a bull wondering what to destroy and why theres nothing to damage, it was an above human effort.

Some might say Edberg has a good case as he is the symbol on the Australian Open moniker, but Boris was a beast. Even that fake nervous cough before serving and the huge body sway was imposing.

I think Sampras serve looks boring, lots of pronation on server loses the fluidity. But I'd take his server over Becker in a match though.

Serve -

Federer (loved it from the first time i saw him play)

Wawrinka (simple, looks effortless, and can crack the high 130's when he feels like it)

Djokovic (love his serve motion)

Forehand -

Prime Federer (most effective and soul crushing shot ever)

Monfils (when he's in the zone he hits it harder then anyone does)

Nadal (wicked wicked forehand

Backhand -

Wawrinka (awesome power, consistency, one of the best shots in the world when he's in the zone)

Gasquet (looks very pleasing to the eye, insane shot making ability)

Djokovic (When his feeling confident he just smacks some crazy backhand winners, great consistency, great passing shots)

Nadal (for the most part its not one of the best of all time but he can really crack an insane cross court winner on the run)
