(Obvious) Joke from my boss this morning:

Q: What happens if you ask LeBron for change for a dollar?
A: You get 3 quarters.

Haha !

There another one that's circulating around the internet....

Q: Why didn't Lebron James go to college?
A: Cause he didn't want to show up for the finals

The Heat could easily claim the title of America's Most Disliked Team. Even more so than the Raiders, Yankees, Red Sox, Miami Hurricanes football, or the Cowboys. They outdid themselves in 2010-11.

Nah. Not many people hate the Heat, they just hate LeBron, and rightly so. I don't mind Wade, who endured some tough times between the 2006 title and this season. He's also a lot classier than LeBron. I don't think poorly of Bosh either; unlike LeBron, he actually played his heart out this whole series. And a lot of people were rooting for the Heat due to the situation with Mike Miller's daughter as well.

I was pulling for Dallas though.

My Heat hating is all about Lebron.

Newscaster in Cleveland described it best. The Decision looked like a skit by the WWE to create a heel. After his last statement, Lebron should just wear the Black Hat. Say hello to the Bad Guy.

Definitely a good win for the Heat. The Lakers are just coasting along, though it's a shame the beating was in LA. The game meant more to the Heat than the Lakers (Lakers ought to be tired of playing on Christmas EVERY year). Too bad the Lakers are the NBA's cash and ratings cow. This is pretty much Phil's last year so I wonder if he still has his mind tricks up his sleeve. Still the Western Conference > Eastern Conference. If they don't get their sense of urgency together, I could see the Spurs or Mavs taking the Lakers down. The Heat probably fear the Mavs more than the Lakers.

BINGO!!! :)

I'm not sure why this has been bumped; the Heat have just reached four straight finals, winning two of them. What a tremendous effort from the organisation! Indeed, let's laugh at such impressive and well earned success!

Congratulations to the Spurs, who outclassed the Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals. Kudos.

I see the bumper is also the thread starter, who I'm sure had an amazing time in having to wait so long to ''try'' and make this thread relevant again.

Time to show some class and dignity, methinks.

As for the Spurs, maybe they can repeat? That team is superb.

I was kind of bemused at the writers saying 4 straight finals has taken its toll...what? How many finals did the Spurs endure (including some heartbreaking loses)?

Heat got wiped by the Spurs. Spurs won each of their games by 15+ pts. Heat didn't even score 100 pts in any of the games. Spo got outcoached, defense was a foreign concept to the Heat, and they had no answer to the Spurs changing tactics after game 2. Leonard blossomed into a potential star while the Spurs Big 3 weren't all that dominating. The ESPN fan polls were favoring the Heat to win the finals when this matchup came together.

Yes, the Heat have been in 4 straight finals. Impressive, but when the Heat got handled in 2011 and 2014 one has to wonder about the level of competition in the (L)Eastern Conference. The West's 8th seed would have been the #3 seed in the East. The Heat had no trouble with tragically flawed teams in the Bobcats/Nets/Pacers. Yet when facing a real challenge, they folded.

Games 3,4,5 the Heat faced adversity. They had brief bursts of energy to fight back, but when the Spurs doused the flames the Heat looked demoralized, defeated, and on the verge of crying. Like the Pistons in 2004 put it, "A full house beats a pair." The Heat looked out of focus (i.e. any of their Big 3 might be thinking of opting out of their contracts), they didn't play as a team (Bosh kept taking corner 3's even though they weren't landing and while the Spurs killed them on the boards), and you would have thought the Heat were the team that had not won the title in 7 years.

I give Lebron credit for fighting. That said, he repeated 2011 by being a non-factor in the 4th quarters. It's not his fault his teammates were not up to the challenge... despite being 2x defending champs. Still, LBJ is now 2-3 in NBA finals.

I think the point was that they were 4 finals in a row. Apparently that happens very rare, so the implications are that they burned out a bit. The Heat got outplayed by a team who would have beaten any version of the Heat from the last four seasons and no matter their freshness levels. The main reason the Heat looked knackered is because the Spurs were too good and made them work way harder than they would have had to against the other teams, like controlling every point in a tennis match and making the opponent run twice as far.

Heat were superb in achieving the success they have done in the last years and my highest regards go to an outstanding winning team this year who is one of the best in recent memory, I reckons.

... Still, LBJ is now 2-3 in NBA finals.

The Heat were/are showbiz, it's like Federer winning polls at Talk Tennis.

LBJ is 2-3 in NBA finals, although I'm not entirely sure why you brought this up. NBA is a team game, I don't think it's really important how LBJ's finals record is, unless you are some sort of Kobe fan who was wondering if LeBron might be considered greater than him when his career is over.

I think everybody knows LeBron isn't a serious contender to be the best ever. Very few are, but nobody since Jordan is really in the discussion.

I'm a little tired of all the GOAT discussions. Lebron is a fantastic player, and I put him right behind Jordan and ahead of Kobe.

Lets not forget the team has made the finals FOUR STRAIGHT YEARS since he got there. If he can get the right team behind him, I can see him making another five finals before its all said and done. If he can win 4 out of 5 of those, he'll have tied Jordan for finals won.

Jordan is the standard, but it doesn't mean all these other guys suck.

The Heat were not up to the task this year against the Spurs, but they responded very well to most of the challenges they faced over the past few years. The Nets and Pacers were both strong teams this year with a lot of talent. Similarly, last year the Pacers were very strong and they had to overcome many good Celtics and Bulls teams in previous years just to get to the finals.

Was it as hard as if they had been in the Western Conference? No.

Does this mean that everything they achieved in reaching 4 finals and winning 2 titles was not earned? Absolutely not.

Games 3,4,5 the Heat faced adversity.

They also faced adversity many many other times over the past 4 years, and the majority of the time they were able to overcome it. In games 3-5 of the finals this year, they were not able to. That doesn't take away from everything else they achieved.

Still, LBJ is now 2-3 in NBA finals.

In what world is being 2-3 in NBA finals before you reach 30 years old a bad thing? This sounds like the same backwards logic people use when they compare tennis player's winning percentage in finals...the fact is that winning an NBA title is great and losing in the finals is the next best result. The fact that Lebron has won 2 titles and reached 3 additional finals is very impressive.

Stop right there. I'm not LOLing at the Heat, but the Pacers self destructed this year and no one really thought they'd beat the Heat with their flaws and Hibbert's disappearing acts. Brooklyn wasn't athletic enough to compete when it came down to it. That and Charlotte's best player got hurt so they lost any chance of a challenge there. If ever there was a cakewalk draw, relatively speaking Miami had it in the east this year.

they need a point guard for true.

Bring back Dan Marino and the ring is theirs again.

The Heat can always put Lebron at the PG spot if they get Carmelo or Deng. The Heat's main problem is they are weak at rebounding. And when pushed they rely too much on Lebron to carry them. Wade doesn't have it in him to lead the team anymore. Bosh is too much in love with his unreliable corner 3-pt shot. Oh and the Heat are top-heavy with unreliable support from their bench.

The Heat can easily win the East again as there is no real threat for them in that weak conference. The Pacers are too mentally weak, Bulls have no offense, Wizards lack an extra gear, Nets are too old/slow, and the Raptors had a short-lived stroke of luck.

If the Heat can shore up their bench and keep the Big 3 (assuming they reduce their minutes, Bosh gets lessons on playing the high post, and Wade stops moving around like he's Gabrielle Union's age) they will be in great position to reach the finals next year.

I agree, and thanks for keeping it classy.

As for the Spurs, I wonder if they will stay hungry for next year. I don't really see why they can't double up.
