I've noticed that too, some people think a warm-up = Wimbledon finals.

My wife and I have this game that her old coach in Greece taught her, called 21.

You rally, counting out loud, until 21, after 21 shots, combined, you can go all out for winners. Until then though, you're only hitting between 60-75%, concentrating on placement and consistency, then after 21 is called you can go for that 95%'r and up.

It gets you in a good groove and when you finally do go for that winner, you're much more 'keyed' in and focused on what body mechanics actually relate to which shot.

Yep. It is not easy to find guys that are good to rally with. Many make too many mistakes or hit balls that are tough to hit back without me making mistakes. I have a few that can do it though and it's blissful. Really awesome for fitness.

Its a great frame. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the Xi version, and Im pretty sure they play very very similar.

I would have dismissed it as well but am real glad I did not. Im finding myself able to play longer and longer. It also helps that the weather is not miserable right now, but I will be more prepared when it is.

Ill be stocking up on the frame in the next few months I think. I have had really no pain at all, and the racquet plays very solid.

I can add - the v torque is a great poly if you want a soft feel, and this frame is awesome for a hybrid setup. But to be honest, the 2 strings that may play best for me are Cyclone tour or even the go to - Polybreak.

V Torque is possibly too soft for me. It really is that comfortable. Polybreak and OGSM may be amazing. I will try it soon and report back. Really personal preference there as you can't go wrong with any of these in the mains.

I wouldn't want anything softer than Cyclone Tour in my frames.

I had a hitting partner a long while back whom I had to ditch because of that issue. It just got so annoying. Yes, that's right, I am here simply to feed you balls to slam into the corners, to work on your passing shots. Don't worry about me. I'm having a great time over here being a ball machine.

Don't get me wrong, I'll practice put-away shots on a short ball after a decent rally, because it is important, but there's a line between doing it once in awhile and respectfully vs. me feeding you a first ball and you straight away going for thunder and lightning corner shot.

^Ah, the intricacies of rallying and finding a good hitting partner.

The best are those types that just get it. They'll step to the net, let you get up there, do some overheads, relaxed, cool and calm like.

I think it comes down to exposure to the sport rather than any mental or lack of (mental) issues. You have to be (at some point in time) around the sport in a controlled and structured environment to understand what's going on and why.

I have a guy stringing RIPControl/NXT in your frame. It lasts him a fair bit and he loves how soft it is. It blows my mind haha

I forgot my tennis bag a few weeks ago and had to hit with Prince Premiere Control (one of my favorite multis) in the same frame I use. It was tough to adjust to and I got crushed in the first set until I adapted.

yeah, finding a good hitting partner is not easy at all. one of the local tennis pros who i am good friends with will ask me to hit with some of his students on occasion. the ones that are in high school like to crush the ball off of feeds. when i feed them moderate paced balls, they crush them, but if i feed them heavy topspin balls, they spray them. very annoying.

maximagq is an AWESOME rally partner. after dubs on sat, we hung around for another 90 mins or so and just rallied. we were both rallying cooperatively and had a bunch of long rallies that went 30-40+ strokes. it was so much fun to hit with someone who wasn't going to try to kill the rally or hit into the net after 5-10 strokes. but with maxi being a legit 5.0, his 60-70% groundies have plenty of pace, spin and penetration so towards the end of the long rallies, my legs and midsection would be getting fatigued and i'd end up making an error. to date, maxima is the best partner i've had an opportunity to hit with other than my coach or brian su.

yeah, this is what i try to do. if my partner is at the net, i don't intentionally try to practice passing him. i generally try to feed him some short lobs so he can practice some overheads. or if we're both at the baseline and i hit a sharp angled groundie (accidentally) that draws a weak reply, i try to hit my next shot right back to him or right back down the middle bleeding off alot of pace to allow him to recover.

yeah, v torque has a very dampened feel to it. in fact to liven and crisp it up a bit, in my latest string job, i've crossed it with WC silverstring 17.

you gave yourself quite a tennis treat this weekend ;)
learned any new tricks?

Yes it was great! Just got back into ATL tonite.
Spent 3 days at Evert Academy in Boca Raton.
Did 3 private sessions with the older brother, Drew.
Also played some doubles and did some group drills.
Not to mention meeting Chris Evert, Cibulkova and
getting to watch Cibu hit up close and also many other
juniors. Also got to see Donna Vekic, who is an 18 yr old
female ranked around 80.

In my lessons, we worked on all strokes, but mostly my 1HBH
and forehand. Lots of little tweaks needed to all strokes, but a recurring
theme with me was bending the knees and staying down through the shot.
Also, extending the arm...proper ball position and hitting out in front and not off the back foot.

Its coming up next. The Torque has been great and I have another pack, so that is good. I have not crossed polybreak with OGSM in a long time, but I like a crisp setup in this frame since the sweet spot is so big. The forten sweet is a great cross on small sweet spots.

I figured that since this is a stiff frame, it would need a soft string. I was definitely wrong there. The frame is comfortable and the sweet spot is so big, that a crisp setup can definitely work.

Really loving it - played again tonight and Im finally getting my groove. I had been playing some really bad tennis the past month, but I made some changes and everything is clicking. Once you get in a groove with this frame you can just swing with full confidence and never miss the sweet spot. It's rather nice.

Final consensus on the frames. There was a great mix of flex and feel from all 4, ai98, PCT, PC95+ and the 330g, and all shared something in common, a non-traditional hoop shape.

The difference in patterns, 1-16x19, 1-18x20 and 2- 16x20, all produced varying ball heights and spin, the PCT produced the most lift and spin-funk out of all of them in my estimation. Probably due to the tip-speed, as it had the lowest SW out of all. I really want to spend more time with this one. I just can't really groove with the woofer grommets, the relationship between string-bed and frame move in 'mysterious ways'. It definitely feels way more flexier than the non-tour PC, yet has just enough crispness and stiffness to put shots away with minimal effort. Was not the best volleying frame of the bunch and it didn't necessarily have the best touch, but it did produce a mean slice and I could really paint the lines out there. The most consistent and biggest sweetspot of the bunch.

The PCT95+ is a beast of a frame, and after sitting down with it again, I can say it felt the most natural to serve with. What an old-school feeling frame? What happened to wilson and head? Aren't they supposed to be churning out 'classic' feeling frames? Every iteration of prestiges, radicals, 6.1's and pro-staffs, with the exception of the 95 and 90, have felt 'gimmicky' and lack luster for the past 3-4 years. Babolathas offers some nice feeling frames in the PCT and PC95+, classic feel and response. The PC95+ has one draw-back, you really have to be aggressive with it, no middle ground, just like the PresMid. Plain jane defense, which I like to play sometimes to open the court up, is not as conducive as some of the other offerings. But what a vanity stick? Would love to see how it performs with a fresh bed of copoly.

The 330g suffers from the same minus as the PC95+, not the best stick out there for defense. Aggressive b-line and net play is where it shines, not necessarily like the PresMid, where at times it feels like a frantic race to strike, much more forgiving than that, but along those lines. I struggled with consistency on serve when compared to the other frames, but when you nail it, there is no return in wait. Again, when your 1st serve percentage is hovering 50, you're losing more than winning. Maybe I'm just not good enough to serve consistently with this frame, but having tired legs and mind towards the end of a 3 hour session and the 330g becomes a liability. It wasn't so much the static weight but the SW coupled with it. It felt like 340+SW at times. The serve is so important to, in terms of consistency and the 330g doesn't want to assist, what you put in, you get out, and while you have to appreciate the sticks honesty, it's not the most forgiving as well.

The ai98...... Hands down the most comfortable and confidence inspiring frame of the lot. Could really zip through 2nd serves, play defense and change to offense in one shot. The ball seemed, at times to meld into the string bed, not quite melt. Strange, because regardless of whether I as hitting center, this feeling wasn't reproducible at all times.

I'm more than likely picking up a PCT and ai98. I'll play extensively with each one, try different set-ups and then ultimately choose one. All the demos had the 3/8's grip and I feel as if the 330g and PC95+, the heavier of the bunch, could've benefited from a size down, as these grips tend to run large anyway, but the PCT and Ai98 played well for me regardless of the grip size, which says a lot.

Crazy how I've settled on contesting the exact two frames. Wouldn't have picked those two out of a line-up of racquets to be the "finalists", but those are the ones sitting in the bag right now. Haven't played in over a week due to Thanksgiving travels, but look forward to getting out this week and continuing the YY-Babs trials. Keep your thoughts coming and I'll do the same.

Well lads,

In spite of the light frame extravaganza going on round these parts I picked up a graphene instinct MP for absolutely dirt cheap off the bay. (Brand new, less than half of what TW is selling them for)

I have low hopes for it, but I feel it could be interesting. So far the RF is losing out to the GPMP, but the arm is feeling both frames right now. It's a weird feeling, not pain but just not great after I hit. Have ditched poly and have been rocking intellitour or RIP Control (Whatever I have packs of laying around my house.)

We'll see where the wind takes us friends!

Played again tonight and this Si continues to impress. It is silly how much racquet head speed I can generate with this stick. The lower swing weight combined with the spec defying stability was allowing for some ridiculous returns. Power is big but controllable and the feel is crisp but not harsh in any way. Serving is effortless as well which is important for me as it is a big part of my game. Ticking a lot of boxes for me so far. More to come.

Yeah the serve aspect really sold me on the frame. It is has so much power.

I also like the control of the frame. It is rather easy to hit precise shots, but you are hitting them with tweener power behind you, so it's awesome.

It is a stiff frame. But it feels solid and doesn't vibrate. Thats the good news. It also is very easy to get a groove going and rarely miss the sweet spot once you get used to the frame. So I am not sure if that would be ok for the shoulder or not?

The Xi does have a rather low SW, in which I had to add a little lead, but I am betting mine is now the same as a stock SI, or maybe a little higher. The funny thing is that it doesn't affect depth or heaviness of shot. I am not sure how yonex pulled that off, but I do remember the 95D swung like it's SW was 335-340 even though it wasn't.

Main takeaway is easy easy depth. It would be really easy for you to use now, and maybe add a little lead to once your strength returns (if you get an xi with the lower SW like I have). The only question is stiffness which I can't answer, but everything else would help you get your game on right now.

Picked up an Si 98 demo and took for a hit this morning. Initial impressions are very positive. Nice big sweetspot, easy to generate pace and quite stable considering the weight. Feel is crisp but not at all uncomfortable. Had I not known the ra before playtesting I would have guessed it was mid 60's. Liked it enough to want to investigate further with my own set up etc. Props to PP as I probably would have dismissed this racquet otherwise.

You aren't finding it too stiff with full poly? I'm not sure I could use the Si98 without a full multi setup. You should give the VCore 98D a whirl if you can locate one. They play EXACTLY like the Si98, but with a slightly softer response.

You know that frame shop I found here in Poland? I saw that they have demos. And that they have the VCore Xi98. And I did just extend my stay here for another two weeks.

Not sure if I'll end up having the time to do so, but will let you know if I'm able to take 'holicing to the international level.

Nice. Hopefully you can give it a ride. I will say this - the first day out was not a wow moment. So don't expect that. But each passing day I have only gotten more and more into the frame.

Xi is fine with full poly. Not really my bag, but these frames are awesome at lower tensions. I should add that caveat.

My coach is probably at 44- 46#s once the full poly bed settles and I am at 48#s after my hybrid settles.

Just got to hold some of the new Dunlop Revolution frames. The mold of the 5.0 definitely did not change and I assume that is the case for most of the racquets. What was interesting was the handle. The whole handle is covered in copper from what I could see through the perforation of the base grip.

Demo box. Hmm. PP's Xi/or the new Si? Maybe the Graphene Prestige MP? (Initially loathed by Prestige loyalists for a change in feel, but recently resurrected by a few who say, get over it, the thing thumps the ball like past Prestiges never have)

Speed Rev Pro is interesting but, for you, would be from a project, what-can-i-turn-this-thing-into-by-modding standpoint, and not sure if that'd be worth it or not. That's all I got.

Gads I'd suggest the XI, but I doubt it will matter too much. The XI supposedly feels a little better, since it is a hair less stiff, but I have a feeling I could use the SI with no change at all from my XI.

If the frame comes with a multi demo, just rest assured it plays better with low tension poly or poly mains. The Yonex Multi I used in it was kind of mehhh and broke pretty fast. The frame becomes a beast with poly and I think it is designed for low 50s or 40s poly mains, even though anything would work fine. It is a bit string sensitive, but not too bad.

Lots of guys love the Graphene Prestige MP, so that may be worth a few sprays.

Yeah, the TW guys seemed to indicate that the new grommets they put into the Orange Sis to be regrettable, that they make the frame feel worse. Or maybe it's that they stiffened up the frame just slightly. I know at the shop here I only saw the Xi demo sitting there, not the Si. I'd be more into trying the Xi if in fact the frame is more comfy. But I don't know if I'll get the chance to try either. Taking a few days off from tennis at the moment just to be cautious and rest the arm a bit.

By the way, they show Agnieska Radwanska match replays on sports tv here like crazy. Haven't seen as much of Janowicz, even though he seems to be more popular here, perhaps because he had a bad year and there aren't as many nice matches from his year to show the Poles.

And the reps are on TVP Sport which doesn't transmit ATP matches so they can't show Janowicz.
Most of the ATP tournament rights are owned here by Polsat.

Ah, I see... I have seen match replays of the French or Aussie Open finals from time to time, but I didn't pay attention to what channel. The cable where I'm staying just has these five or six sports channels. Also stunned that they're showing replays of NFL games here now on Mondays.

Are you in Warsaw by chance?

Gads...the comfiest of these is the prior VCore 98D. It's 65 stiffness, where the Xi and Si and 69 & 70. I'm sure it plays identical.

Well if that's true then I for sure won't like the Xi or Si, because I thought the 98D was too rigid for my taste. But I believe PP is saying he feels the Xi feels better, or more dampened, than the 98D, and I believe they said the same in the TW review?

AO, French and USO are shown by Eurosport.
Wimbledon, Masters 1000, some 500s and 250s are shown by Polsat.
And WTA tournaments are shown by TVP Sport.

Sadly different town, different voivodeship.

PP,
You know that frame shop I found here in Poland? I saw that they have demos. And that they have the VCore Xi98. And I did just extend my stay here for another two weeks.

Not sure if I'll end up having the time to do so, but will let you know if I'm able to take 'holicing to the international level.

Do it Josh... test them ALL :).

Don't know about TW but my friend plays/played with the D and Xi. The Xi was just slightly stiffer for him.
However he went with 100 for the Si generation due to better reviews.

It may feel rigid at first, but for me that is gone. The sweet spot is so big that once the strings settle in and your timing syncs up to the racquet, it becomes very pleasurable hit.

Demo-box is on its way. Went all 100's this time, maybe I can find one that's just comfortable enough.

- ai100
- graphene extreme pro
- prince tour pro 100 (16x16 offering with traditional beam)
- volkl v1 pro (99.5sq.in.!?.....)

I kind of enjoyed the 16x16 esp frame, but the ports + super open pattern offered a mushy response for me. Although in all honesty, I only tried one string job in it before selling it off. Have high hopes for this recent prince offering. Had to actually call in this one, as the 'demo' option is not available via the website.

The volkl? I guess the specs attracted me, can't really groove with their handle shape, but a 1/2 size should feel like a 3/8's.

The yonnie and head just for pure curiosity as we're all familiar with their feel and style.

Should be an interesting demo round.

My money is on the Prince, just given your frame history. Didn't you hit Exo frames for awhile? Hopefully. The feel is better here.

If you end up liking the V1 Pro, shoot me an email because I've got one. Wasn't for me. Also, I actually found the grip on the Pro to feel much chunkier than the size, not the other way around, and someone mentioned that the grips on the V1 frames supposedly run bigger than the other Volkls.

Delpo and Franco Davin hitting (pulling this from another thread):

Figured I'd post because we recently chatted in here about the consistency in practice of the pros and their hitting partners/coaches, and I mentioned seeing these two. Love watching them hit.
