Should Kyrgios have been de-faulted

The swearing on two occasions and it was loud, real loud.

Throwing his racquet to the ground on numerous occasions and only being given a warning.

The last throw was a full blooded one and the Umpire just ignored the rules.

That last one should have been an automatic penalty point against him.

Not sure the ruling / penalty on swearing, but my friend heard him swear too.

Appalling conduct. The tennis authorities need to discipline the umpire for failing to uphold the rules, sending a message to the other umpires that with this sort of behaviour a penalty must be applied.

**** can do whatever he wants, why shouldn't Kyrgios? :)

Edit: W a f a is a blocked word? Seriously? Make it Rafa

In all seriousness though, poor conduct by Kyrgios, I expected better from him

His behaviour at the moment is disgraceful, TBH. I still can't help but support him though with the assumption he's gonna rein in all that crap. His brand of tennis is too exciting for me to refuse.

The umpires need to do their job a lot better. Nadal should have been given numerous warnings and defaulted points/games if he then continued with his time wasting for a 90-120 minute stretch of his 2nd round match, and Kyrgios should be given way more warnings and defaulted points and games should he continue his inappropriate constant swearing. The umpires should be disciplining the lads.

Shame Murray isn't as mouthy as he used to be or his match with Kyrgios could have been beyond legendary.

What is appalling is this ridiculous PC era. Let them swear. It's a perfectly healthy way to vent your frustration. It hurts literally no one.

the joke is that the innocent 80's had more dirty/loudmouth Mccenroe and Connors, and today every little curse is overexposed beyond proportion..
or maybe the better mics and cameras made it that way :D

Seppi behaved like a Gentleman throughout, Nick like a spoilt brat.

In golf his conduct would have likely resulted in a near life ban.

Trouble is swearing is now seen as 'cool' for the kids watching as is throwing the racquet.

He's an out and out show-boater for mine.

Showed little respect for his opponent Seppi too.

Shouting out aggressively 'come on' after Andreas dumped a poor backhand into the net.

Yes...that would have been great for the sport of tennis. DQ a rising star at his home slam, ending a match of great drama because he "cursed" a couple of times.

Now, cursing isn't my cup of tea, but people overreact, IMO. Tennis needs a little personality, some guys with a little edge and emotion. The Federer/Nadal/Djokovic generation are almost too robotic and businesslike at times. It is good to see some fire. Hopefully, he learns to eliminate the bad words, but I hope he maintains his edge and emotion he plays with.

You people are insufferable. Kyrgios is a way better tennis player than we will ever be. Who gives a crap if he swears? At least he isn't a cheater.

Comes across as both a bit of an arrogant dick yet a fun-loving free spirit as well. Not sure what to make of him yet so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Didn't like however the way he lay prone on the deck for such an extended period of time after match point…making Seppi have to wait for him.

He copped a $5000 fine for racket abuse and swearing during his rd 1 match.Maybe he will cop another 5k fine. However, I didnt hear the umpire warn him for repeatedly swearing, and the umpire didnt even give him a point penalty the 2nd time he threw his racket. Does anyone know how they decide to fine a player?

The text in bold made me laugh, yeah, people are over reacting.

Nadal robotic ... I don't see it.

It could still happen, when Murray gets into the serious "kick butt" mode things can become very exiting.

This is going to be tough for Murray, playing the new Australian darling on home turf and all that on Australia day!

If Murray wins this one it will give a great boost to his confidence. The big word is "if" though.

I don't get why everyone is saying Rafa and Andy are going to play this matches on Monday. They aren't playing it on Australia day, they are playing their matches on the 27th

You are absolutely right, I was wrong about that, they play on the 27th.

Haha. Maybe it's hard to have a killer mentality without a bit of an attitude on top. At the end of the day, I'm just impressed he found a way to come back from 2 sets down. I really didn't think he could.
It's simple, we have no other 18/22 age range breaking through on the men's tour right now.
If we look at the current top 50, the situation seems alarming.
Half the top 50 is between 26 and 29 (exactly 25 players) but what's worrisome is that we have a staggering 15 players between the age of 30 and 35 (almost a third) but only 10 players between the age of 21 and 25 (traditionally the most fruitful years in tennis) and when you look at who those people are (Vesely, Thiem, Sock, Dimitrov, Raonic, Goffin, Janowicz, Johnson, Klizan, Nishikori) you find: not a single master title, slam title or WTF title between them and only 1 slam final!! How bleak is that?
Only 6 players in the top 100 between 20 and 22 (0 20, 2 21 and 4 22, the highest ranked being Vesely at #39)
Only 2 teenagers in the top 100 and the second one is ranked 91 (Borna Coric 18).
If that trend continues, pretty soon, the only tennis tour that will survive is the senior one. They will have to cancel the regular pro one for lack of age appropriate participant!!
I'll take swearing KG over no one because right now, that is what we have in terms of talented youth alternative: KG or no one.

Thanks! You just explained what a weak era this is! Has been like that all through 2010-2014.

The elite is still strong but for how much longer? There doesn't seem to be any truly solid group of players to replace them.
Once the current elite starts floundering (and of course, it's already starting with Fed), it feels like the overall level in pro tennis is gonna take a vertiginous dive, with no clear prospect of recovery.

The overall lack of interest has been very bad for rounds 1-4 in slams for many years, even QF is relatively bad nowadays. Lack of young talent, ever since 2009.

I'm with the 'don't sweat the little stuff, this is little stuff' camp.

If the worst Kyrgios ever does is use a pretty common word and occasionally terminating a misbehaving racquet, he'll be a fine member of the ATP tour.

I think most people who buy tickets to all sports events near the field/pitch/court know they might hear some profanity.

I did notice Seppi gave him quite a hug at the end...he couldn't have been offending his opponent if that was the case. Nick's flamboyant nature is genuine and not aimed at offending anyone. I'm sure he'll tone it down as he matures.

As someone with Mac in their username one would think you would be okay with it.

But yeah, not good, although I don't believe players should ever be defaulted unless they've done something really serious (like physically hurting/injuring someone like Nalbandian did at Queens).
Throwing racquets and swearing isn't actually harming anyone, so of course he should not be defaulted.
Point penalty, sure, but the umpire was never going to do that with the crowd, and you wouldn't have done it either.

Defaulted for what? Saying he makes a crap return? That's beyond ridiculous. I guess the Rafa fans are in full flight now that Nick is into the QF.

you only completely excuse NK's behavior because he defeated Nadal at Wimbledon.

if Nadal had anything near the countenance you would pull a hissyfit constantly!
