What is it with dbls champs/specialists/winners/dominators/craftsmen/rebels/conservatives/wiseasses/intelligensia/peak-players...

Why couldn't they put out Jordo and Maximum Purcell? Why the heck specialise in dbls if they're just gonna wilt first sign of the sun?

Wow, the bookies have Canada as the favorites winning the Davis Cup, even though Australia is already in the final and Canada still needs to play the semis...

Well how about that! SoneGOAT takes care of Foe and Shapo back-2-back. Impressive to hang in there after the brutal choke in the 2nd set TB.

Way to redeem himself after the embarrassing DC losses to Gojo and Horanski, which ultimately cost him his spot. Wasn't even on the team until Sinner's defection, and once he did get the call, everyone was complaining that they wanted Nardi or Bellucci instead...

Epic performance, grande!

So far it's a repeat of the tie against Germany, with Shapo losing the first match, but FAA levelling it up in the second match.

Shapo looked like he had some discomfort towards the end of his match, so now it's a question on who will be playing with Pospisil in doubles.

Canada through to the Final!

Big question mark is whether Shapo will be fit to play tomorrow. If he is, Canada should be a heavy favorite.

I have no idea who will win tomorrow.
Australia is playing inspired tennis for their ranking. And Davis Cup often brings that out in players. That's one thing I love about it.

If Canada was the official 'underdog', I'd give them the match in a heartbeat. But being the favourite might actually be a weight on them. I still think Canada has the advantage, but you just never know.

I'm thrilled for the Aussies that they made it to the finals, but I'll be cheering for Canada to take home their first Davis Cup.

FAA and Shapo won Davis Cup Juniors together in 2015.

Now they're trying to win the real one in 2022.

Except this isn't the "real" Davis Cup. Hasn't been for several years. No comparison between a best of three three-setter competition in one day and a best of five five-setters over three days. Very few of the top ranked players bother to play this nothing exhibition any more.

Still, good on the Canadians for making it to the final. It may be a mickey-mouse competition but they played by the rules and beat everyone they were up against. Hope they can win the final too.

DeMinaur with his useless serve again. Dude has no weapon whatsoever in his arsenal. Sadly Croatian double choked. I feel like Coric, Cilic would've made this final much more competitive

1st serve points won by FAA: 65%
2nd serve points won by FAA: 75%

All you need to know about DeMinaur's game. Nothing but grinding and pushing, Felix played fabulous and dictated every crucial point without error.

Although I do agree with your first paragraph, it's still an accomplishment to do what they did no matter what. If the point of all this for a nation like Canada is to grow the game and create more interest in tennis here in Canada then they've done that no matter the format. Some young kid watching this doesn't even remember when the format was BO5, and in 20-30-40 years 99% of people aren't going to care that the format changed and that it's much easier to win unless you're ranking DC winners on difficulty or something like that. Point is, Canada's name is on the trophy regardless. For the first time. If they had 28 DC titles like Australia I wouldn't care either, but there's a bigger picture to this.

And you might also say even for the last 5-10 years when it was BO5 it had lost a lot of prestige anyway. The last time it had prestige was some time in the 80's or 90's.

So happy for these guys! Wonderful to be up early this morning and watch both matches - great tennis from both Denis and Felix. Felix has had a wonderful year, and I'm so happy for him. I wish Denis could have those successes, but I just enjoy what he can do. I'm particularly happy for Vasek Pospisil. He's often lost in the mix, but his doubles play saved Canada over and over again - and he did this after having major back surgery a few years ago! I love this guy!

It was a pretty historic 15 minutes or so for Canada sports... winning the Davis Cup for the first time, and then the World Cup team scoring their first ever goal in the tournament two minutes in... but of course the fun ended there for the soccer team.

I woke up just after 4am in Vancouver to watch Shapo play, and I'm glad I watched from start to finish.

Don't forget about the coach, Frank Dancevic. He carried the flag for Davis Cup for so many years when Canada was a 3rd rate tennis country, and I think often he would be the only player in the top 100. Happy that he's getting to be part of the success of Team Canada now.

That this thread is two pages long sums up how important Davis Cup is now.
Yes, DC is quite deflated in interest and quality when compared to the glory days of 3-day ties and Bo5 rubbers with fifth sets played out. When did the players’ demands for less stress become priority one in the decisions made by the ATP/ITF?

Until this past week my biggest pet peeve was 1R byes in ATP matches. Second was elimination of Bo5 finals at Masters. That changed with this format.
