The favourite is obviously Halep here. She showed her grit and battle level against Lisicki and she really brought it to Azarenka, again battling to win in 3. That said, Pennetta has been a good player at the US Open throughout her career. She'll be a tough test for the Romanian.

Kvitova is in her first career US Open quarterfinal while Pennetta is gunning for her 2nd career US Open semifinal (1st in 2013, lost to Azarenka). Kvitova is currently serving up a break 4-2 in the 1st.

This is a really interesting QF matchup! Will the in-form and ever dangerous Tsonga be able to stop Cilic in his title defense? Cilic has done well to stay alive so far but I really think he's vulnerable to a player who can actually get the job done, unlike a Kukushkin or a Chardy.

Sort of an interesting matchup. Dolgopolov has taken advantage of a good section of the draw with Nishikori withdrawing and got himself to the QF's. As for Berdych, he has quietly cruised through his first two matches, beating Bellucci 6-2 6-3 and Robredo (a quarterfinalist last year!) 6-0 6-1.

If not, when did this happen?? It's been a staple in the line of summer hard court tournaments of increasing prestige, from a 250 (Atlanta) to a 500 (Washington) to a M1000 (Canada and Cincinnati) to a Grand Slam (US Open) so it seems really silly for it to not be a US Open Series event anymore.
