Reminder to ourselves: Never bet on Bellucci. NEVAH! Takes Ferrer out and this...

Wouldn't go that far...I went with him due to the Ferrer win and Haase's beatdown by a qualifier in Casablanca. Haase did win last year @ Kitzbuhel, so you never know when that kind of result gets rechanneled. Guess it happened today.

Only ******** got eliminated from the semi-finals round as a result of Berdych losing.

The only person remaining is Breaker as he has Djokovic as his pick.

SF: Berdych

going for glory

I gave up that notion a while ago. It'd be nice to actually win one of these, but I'll settle for SF and Finals appearances with no pick remaining. It's better than trying to go for the win and getting trolled in the second or third rounds.

These SDLs are quite difficult to win, don't think I ever won one and yet I could be top 3 in the race by the end of week.

Yeah, consistency is key with these. Getting a win might be nice, but if you can consistently be around the semi-finals, you can shoot up the rankings. It's also so frustrating and disappointing to go out in an event when you've still got top 4 picks left. They are close to a sure thing as you can get. I almost treat picking Nadal/Murray/Djokovic/Federer like I have 4 aces, that I can use whenever I want. I need to employ that strategy at the slams, because I don't think I've done well at any slam event since I started playing this.

It is tough to get a good tactic, my first ever tournament was the Australian Open this year and I happened to win it! by playing pretty aggressive.

Since then I have kepy playing aggressive made finals in Dubai but got trolled in IW by Fish Miami but Isner and here by Monaco although that was unfortunate with the injury!

I think with the AO Open win the points I can probably keep playing this way but there may come a time I need to do what you are saying just play safe make some good runs take the points and get out of town! :)

Yeah, I'm starting to think this is the optimal strategy as well. I took fairly needless risks in both MC and Miami because I wanted to preserve my chances of winning, when in both cases I would have had relatively routine paths to the Final just by sticking with the Big 4. Even though the Final is only 60% the points of winning, it's probably worth settling for it in tournaments with the Big 4 when it means you can make much safer/higher-probability picks in the R16 and QF. In principle I always like going for the to win, but over the course of a season you'd probably earn more points just playing to make the Final. If this was the late 90s/early 2000s where even the Slams were unpredictable crapshoots for the most part, then it might make more sense to gamble and go for the win.

For me the right strategy just depends on the tournament and how things play out. Sometimes it's best to go for the win. Sometimes it's best to play it safe and take the surer path to the finals. It's all about the whether the risk is worth the reward, and the answer is often different just based on how each tourney plays out, imo. It's part of what makes this game fun, along with the always dramatic mass eliminations. :D
