Haase hate on this board is not understandable...his slump had a lot to do with injuries. When healthy, he has played great tennis, particularly on the dirt. Or mud, as is the case today.

Uhm, as a Dutchie, might I be allowed to reflect on this claim? ;)
The main problem with Haase is... every time he loses, whether it's to a top-10 player or some journeyman-dudd outside the top-100, there's the annoying Excusitis showing up.
It's due to the bad weather, the ump, the opponent, injuries, niggles, wrong racket choice, bad sleep the night before the match, inproper scheduling... always, ALWAYS.

The guy barely ever acknowledges to have played like a total failure himself, which he quite often does, most often because of losing his temper at the most inadequate moments during whatever a match.

Like Berdych once said after Haase lost a DC-tie against him, a few years ago, followed by the usual Excusitis:
"Should I send him flowers, tomorrow morning?" Mean, but considering the circumstances, pretty funny. :D

Always loved Haase's style. His match against Murray at USO was memorable .

Hope he can beat sock here
He preceded that loss with nice tennis in Kitzbuhel (title) and Winston Salem (SF loss to Benneteau in 3, 6-3 6-7 6-7). At that point, he seemed ready to take the next step into top 20 but his best only got him to #33 a year later in '12.

@TheMusicLover offered some nice insight. Much appreciated!

At least I get to see taped matches on NBC for the next little while. Nick taking the first set TB was my first glimpse. Sad that I'll hear JMac on the commentary though.

It's May. It's RG. It's my annual turn to rant at this f******g ancient garbage tournament.

My opinion is that they should strip it of it's slam status and elevate one of the masters that actually has 21st century facilities and performance. I would not be in the slightest bit upset if these monkeys lost the right to host a slam.

My local sports centre, a £100k complex funded by the council and the local community charges approx. £2.50 for an hour of cricket nets, £10 for the football 5-a-side pitch and about £3 for the tennis. Even they have floodlights. So if a local sports club can afford to, what excuse does a multi million pound global tournament like RG have? All the slams have problems with weather/wind/heat etc but all of them cope reasonably well. AO by far and away are the best.

Agents from the French Tennis Mafia (Babolat/Tecnifibre) have been dispatched to your door for action with extreme prejudice!

Hey Tom, it wasn't exactly the most 'friendly' comment I ever made on a resident Dutch player, now was it? ;)

Problem is most of my countrymen feel like that about Haase. Should he manage to make a dent in this RG 2016, be sure 99% of opinions would become a lot more positive! :)

He sounds like many tennis players in general, especially those that never had a tough coach specializing in taking the trash out of the garbage bin between the student's ears.

@vive le beau jeu ! likes your post. For taking away RG's slam status and leaving Ralph with just 5 slams :)

Great post. No roof no lights looks like hell.

I'm not suggesting we take away anyone's slams up until this point. All the player's deserve their slams, in fact great credit to them for winning this ****ty slam that's organised like a party for baboons.

However it really is unacceptable that in 2016 we have a massive sports event like this with the facilities you'd find in a local fun fair on a Sunday.

If they had a roof, nole would probs have at least 2 RGs by now. Typical French, useless
Only eurosnobs rate this tournament higher than other slams. It looks like a garbage dump. Rome looks a million percent better. Hell madrid looks better than this crap hole. Ugly cement stands, they cant put up lights. Looks like the place has been carpet bombed.

I mean the amount of matches that had to be completed the next day because of no light left or rain is beyond a joke. Plus the fact they have no Hawkeye is just taking the biscuit too.

There is not enough bad things that can be said about this tournament. Except the fans of this garbage dump like the tradition. For gods sake wimbledon and wrigley field have put up lights. Im surprised they have electicity at all. It looks like an old rodeo arena.

FO is my least favorite slam. It just lacks the facilities to be taken seriously and it's only getting worse. I didn't like the US Open for the lack of a roof too, but they managed to get things done while in France they are still thinking the weather will be fine at the end of May - beginning of June.

Do you think the final will be played on June 5th? To be honest I cannot imagine that considering the weather forecast.

I'll agree but something about Paris and Roland Garros' history gives that place character. You can't say that the US Open is any nicer.

The us open is a thousand percent nicer. Its not even close. There isnt a tournament on tour that has facilites like this. Maybe columbia or someplace

Well, they seem to hold on to history badly as they refused to modernize their facilities in the last decade. I have heard they are some problems with people living near the stadium, but if they cannot afford or enforce change they should probably play a masters 1000 in Paris and transfer the GS to Rome. Rome's facilities are a hundred percent nicer and the weather usually is too. I'm sure not a single pro would mind except the Frenchmen as they lose home advantage, but it's not like they ever made use of that.

Well as we can see from the first day of play, it is going to be a pretty rainy tournament. The schedule has already been pushed back and Djokovic and Serena will play Tuesday when they were scheduled for tomorrow. Only 10 of 32 matches got completed today.

Has a major ever impinged upon the next tournament in the ATP calendar, that anyone can think of? I mean, there is a week's cushion here... but could get tight if things have to get bumped back a lot.

What's up with this trash talk about RG?

It's a wonderful tournament, regardless of its facilities or bad weather.

It's charming as ****. Moving the Slam to Rome 'cause things there are more comfortable is just utter nonsense.

I like Johnny Mac. What do you not like about his commentary?
Constant droning, usually about irrelevancies. When it's Carillo and Robinson in the booth with him, they serve up some idea that he then takes off on for some length while play is progressing, barely allowing for any punctuation of good or bad shots going on in the match.

I'm a bit of a fan of old school minimalist styles of broadcasting...let the play do the talking and chime in briefly, promptly and succinctly. JMac is none of the above.

This is why you have freaking roofs! FO is really a joke. Masters has roofs but a slam doesn't.
