My gawd that backhand down the line return. Halep has no answers.

Keys hits the hardest ball of any semi-relevant WTA player as confirmed by stats. Her average groundies (both sides combined) have been measured at higher speeds (78 mph) than Ostapenko's average on her fastest froundstroke this tournament (forehand = 76 mph). So yes, Keys hits harder. But both of them spray like mad unless they zone anyways. Luckily for Ostapenko, she has been zoning a lot this week.

She does it.
Unseeded Jelena Ostapenko completes the upset and wins her first slam title at the French Open.
She wins a slam before the likes of Wozniacki, Radwanska, Pliskova and Halep.

20 year old wins.

Up to #12 in the rankings.

Angelique Kerber remains number 1.

I love this girl and I love the way she plays. If she can reign in the unforced errors, she will be blanking many people.

20 year old slam winner, what do you know. Feel sorry for Halep (gotta wonder if she'll ever win a slam now) but Jelena brought me money so it's fine I guess.

Just a beautiful demonstration of ball-bashing at its finest. Halep just had no idea what to do when Ostapenko stopped hitting more errors than winners, which was the story of sets 2 and 3.

Time will tell if she has more staying power than the many other ball-bashers in the WTA.
