We'll finally get to see Ostapenko playing again, now on grass. I'm truly curious about that one.

I feel for Görges. She'll be way too tired for her match against Bellis, who now has a good change to avenge that heavy loss in Mallorca.

Number 1 ranking up for grabs this week. Only 115 points between #2 Halep and #1 Kerber. Halep on 6850 points while Kerber is on 6965 points.

Pliskova not far behind on 6386 points. She can't get #1 this week but she has only 2R points to defend at Wimbledon (70 pts) whilst Halep has QF points + her Bucharest title points (430 + 280 pts). Kerber has finalist points (1300) to defend.

Looks like Pliskova will likely leave Wimbledon as the new #1, unless she bombs out early and Kerber/Halep have huge runs or win the whole thing. But, will we see Halep sneak in and get to #1 this week?

Tough draws for both ladies in contention for #1.

Kerber gets either home girl Broady or lefty Pliskova 2R and then Gavrilova likely 3R (Dasha beat her in Hong Kong last year). QF looms against anyone from Suarez Navarro to to Ostapenko or Konta.

Halep has an easy 2R against either Duan or McHale but 3R looms with Birmingham champ Kvitova. Rough! QF likely against Vesnina or Wozniacki.

Gorges does withdraw and Kucova is in as a lucky loser.

Bellis also withdraws and Davis gets in as well as a lucky loser.

So instead of Gorges v Bellis it's (LL) Kucova v (LL) Davis. A lucky loser will be in the 2R.

5 of the 6 ladies who lost in the final qualifying round got into the main draw as lucky losers. Only one yet to get in is grass queen Pironkova. But i'm sure one of the 16 seeded players with a bye will withdraw, maybe Kvitova. So Pironkova might get a shot.

As Spy said, it's rough the week before a slam.

Cirstea wins over Siniakova in straights.
Duan wins up 6-3 4-0 after McHale retires. She now faces #2 Halep.

Kr Pliskova up 6-2 5-5 in the 2nd on Broady.

Me too! Ostapenko has become a big fan of mine now! Grass is suppose to be her better surface too! Since the ladies matches are not on TC and I don't want to go back to VPN for access to BBC coverage, I going look into YouTube!

Cibulkova is going through a pretty rough patch. Now, she has just lost against Watson, who isn't having a stellar year by any stretch too. Applying the TTW logic for losses of form, this can only be explained by the fact she's now a married woman. Damn marriages!

Ostapenko-CSN should be starting shortly.

I love how Ostapenko shrugs off her bad service games because she basically thinks of return games like Karlovic thinks about his service games. Breaks again for 4-3.

Yep, Ostapenko remains firing winners left and right. I'll no longer say she does that with the same ease as I drink glasses of water, because I can't drink that much water.

Allegedly coverage on BBC Red Button, but not finding the site.... LOL I don't have the tv remote with the red button for sure.

A break down in the second with silly mistakes.
CSN taking advantage, 2-0.

And a double break down now. Ouch.
Carla still giving Ostapenko nightmares, it seems.

I'm afraid I cursed Ostapenko. The winners are now UFE and she's a triple break down. But this second set is clearly showing Ostapenko's serve can be a big liability. Winning only 22% points behind her 1st serve is not a good look at all.

And now she's leaving the court to receive medical treatment.

Ostapenko really has to improve her serve. A player like Pliskova, who has a steadier and bigger serve than Navarro, will not allow her to return with such ease (and that shot made the difference today) and will punish these poor serve games.

I also noticed Ostapenko appeared to have some difficulties dealing with slices at times. I've to see someone employing that strategy more often, along with some more variety, to see if I'm imagining stuff or if this pattern of play can really throw her rhythm off.

I agree with that, slice could give her pause. I actually think she has a good kick serve that's coming along, she just needs to find some oomph to put on it. I think it's better than it was last year when I started watching her, but still a liability.

I can't believe Watson beat Cibu!
Both were a bit shaky but Watson was slightly the better player.
I think the poster in the Best assets thread is right. Heather has lost a bit of weight.

Kvitty has pulled out. Resting after the well earned win. In an interview she citing abdominals as the reason, not yet fully tourney fit, well fit to win one, just not to win one and then win another straight after:) Great to hear it's notified hand related.
"My hand is in no pain".

I saw her last year here in Washington at the DC tournament and she looked like she had thinned down some then. Not that she was ever hefty, just more toned maybe.

What is it with some of these kits? Both Bouchard and Svitolina wear the "Serena Williams Please Give Me No Neck" outfits.
They look terrible.
Any way in these highlights there's some good and bad tennis, but I couldn't help thinking that if Halep had Bouchard's swinging volley (and intiative to come forward) she might be sitting on a couple of majors now.

Looks like no matches will be played today. Not good. Also I think the Wimbledon players party is Thursday and I'm sure a few players won't want to miss that ;)

Ouch.
Possibly 2 matches for a bunch of the top players like Kerber, Halep, Radwanska, Konta and more. Probably not the best move the week before a slam.

Wonder if/how many withdrawals or retirements we will see.

I was thinking same thing. Could very well turn into Tanksgiving which would be a shame, but nobody wants to exert themselves too much before Wimby. Probably a good opportunity for a lower seed to win a big title though.

We've already got 6 lucky losers in the draw (all from the final qualifying round). Don't know if any of the 1R qualifying losers have stuck around in Eastbourne. Might not have any more people!

I wonder why Ash Barty didn't play? She's in the doubles draw. Maybe her old ranking cutoff didn't get her in the main draw and she skipped qualifying as she was in the Birmingham final.. Maybe she could get in if someone withdraws. Guess we will see.

If there's more rain tonight, this could get real ugly schedule wise.

Haleps goal to be #1 at the end of the week already in danger. Down a set to Duan.
She`s on serve up 4-3 in the 2nd though.
