Watson over Tsurenko, Niculescu over MLB are a couple surprises early.
Konjuh & Putintseva retire, always a problem the week before a Slam.
Good win for Watson. She needed one.Watson over Tsurenko, Niculescu over MLB are a couple surprises early.

Me too! Ostapenko has become a big fan of mine now! Grass is suppose to be her better surface too! Since the ladies matches are not on TC and I don't want to go back to VPN for access to BBC coverage, I going look into YouTube! We'll finally get to see Ostapenko playing again, now on grass. I'm truly curious about that one.
I feel for Görges. She'll be way too tired for her match against Bellis, who now has a good change to avenge that heavy loss in Mallorca.
Who is broadcasting this match in UK?Break for Ostapenko, 3-2.
She's starting to play now.

I've got Brit commies on fromhot.com. Going to check out BBC....No idea, I'm watching an Italian link.
Still, she continues her 3 set wins. Better than losing 'em!Ostapenko barely scrapes through, it wasn't a good match.
I agree with that, slice could give her pause. I actually think she has a good kick serve that's coming along, she just needs to find some oomph to put on it. I think it's better than it was last year when I started watching her, but still a liability.Ostapenko really has to improve her serve. A player like Pliskova, who has a steadier and bigger serve than Navarro, will not allow her to return with such ease (and that shot made the difference today) and will punish these poor serve games.
Other thing I noticed was Ostapenko appeared to have some difficulties dealing with slices at times. I've to see someone employing that strategy more often, along with some more variety, to see if I'm imagining stuff or if this pattern of play can really throw her rhythm off.
I saw her last year here in Washington at the DC tournament and she looked like she had thinned down some then. Not that she was ever hefty, just more toned maybe.I can't believe Watson beat Cibu!
Both were a bit shaky but Watson was slightly the better player.
I think the poster in the Best assets thread is right. Heather has lost a bit of weight.
I was thinking same thing. Could very well turn into Tanksgiving which would be a shame, but nobody wants to exert themselves too much before Wimby. Probably a good opportunity for a lower seed to win a big title though.Ouch.
Possibly 2 matches for a bunch of the top players like Kerber, Halep, Radwanska, Konta and more. Probably not the best move the week before a slam.
Wonder if/how many withdrawals or retirements we will see.
We've already got 6 lucky losers in the draw (all from the final qualifying round). Don't know if any of the 1R qualifying losers have stuck around in Eastbourne. Might not have any more people!I was thinking same thing. Could very well turn into Tanksgiving which would be a shame, but nobody wants to exert themselves too much before Wimby.
