Geez, I thought one of those shots was a bit out but Swiatek won the point anyway...

Iga showing some sign of out of steam. This might not look good on her should she meet Naomi this Saturday.

Jessica should honestly not be doing this well and I am proud of her for hanging in so long... She does not have the natural physical gifts that Iga has

However she is trying to bash as though she is Iga (somehow it is working to tire her opponent... Iga is probably surprised), and that will be her undoing for quite some time

If Osaka goes serveboting she’ll have a good chance.
Agreed, then she cannot start shaky as she did against Bencic... As usual for Naomi on HC the match is in her hands imo

So far Pegula has done better than other Iga's opponents in this tournament Pegula surpassed the 3 games max in a set that other opponents got against Iga.

She actually has a pretty good gameplan against Iga, you’re not going to win by trying to play your normal cookie cutter baseline game against her. Need to hit to open court immediately, take the chances for winners, and approach the net (which Pegula was actually doing with some success)

but yeah this one had only one winner. I will say JP has an inner fight to her and a quiet confidence that certainly doesn’t match her upbringing. She is a total fighter despite having one of the richest families in the world. I’ve gained a fair amount of respect for her.

Congratulations Jessica, your opponent wasn't pushed this far since Simona Halep way back when

And GL to you Iga as well.. I will be rooting for Naomi, but I am perfectly fine if you win.. You can be an ATG with this level + your natural clay prowess

I love that part about her. The current era is hard to push past but she does not want to be stigmatized and you can tell... You are right -- she was trying everything. Maybe a little smarter in the last two games may have helped but she is learning compared to last year at least. There's hope yet

Really excited for this final :)

Osaka said today she wants to be #1 again. She needs these points. Not like she's going to do much on clay. But, even though I'm a huge Osaka supporter, there's a part of me that wants to see Swiatek stamp her name on the ranking she inherited and see her streak continue.

Honestly can't pick a winner for the final. I think Swiatek is generally a better player, but Osaka is a hard court beast when she's 'on' and she's definitely on this week. Swiatek is also due a loss.

I think Osaka needs this win more than Swiatek. Just not sure who wins it. Can't remember such a hard-to-bet-on final for sone time.

Swiatek already has #1 in April 14-15th, Osaka needs this win to be seeded again! I pulling for Naomi to win another Miami Single title again! :) Did not know they were friends until now! :giggle:

I am predicting Osaka will win but I could very much see it going either way....

That’s just awkward to watch. There’s no warmth. Is that a new kids thing? I know I’m an old fart…
Agreed, a little awkward. They don't spend their teenage years like other teenagers. Naomi has always sounded a little awkward to me. She sounded younger than her age - didn't know she's 24yo.

I didn't think it was that awkward. Even if Naomi doesn't actually like cookies and creme or chocolate, she was still clearly teasing Iga, and I thought it was funny.

Alexandrova and Yang choke big time against Siegemund and Zvonareva in the doubles semis. In the deciding tiebreaker, they were up 9-4 with 5 straight match points, lost them all, and lost it 11-13.

I saw that and loved it!
I had just come home after playing doubles myself.
We were down 1-5 in the first set and that's when we became more determined. :)
We had never lost a set to our buddies before so a lot was on the line.
Sure enough we came back to 6-5 and then on to the tiebreak which we won. :)

I know there’s a thread, but noon is really bad for me.

You kids don’t get that one deleted.

I think it mostly depends on Naomi's serve. With many aces she will keep up or even win, but if she is not on her good serving day I think Iga will win this.
