Also if 40 yr old Feli turning back the years and pulling off a top 5 win in front of roaring Spanish fans in the capital isn’t the entire essence of Davis Cup, then what is?

embarrassing that fellow Spaniard (ok, Catalonian, but still) Gerard Piqué can look at a match like this then think that moving the competition to Abu Dhabi is the right move.

Also gives you an idea of what Pancho Gonzales could still do at age 40, and what SHOULD be possible in 2021 for a 40 year old ATG still in good condition without major injuries.

What a tie Spain vs Russia was.
Spain won the single that nobody thought they were going to win
Then two players good at net lost to two baseliners in indoor double match

Lopez is from the strong era. Can’t expect weak era bums like Rublev to match that level.
Yes, but he failed big.
He is only 0:4 at slams vs Federer (0:13 overall), while Federers real opponents Roddick and Hewitt are each 0:8 at slams...
Feli should do better...
Roddick and Hewitt are real stronK era giants... :sneaky:

What is your problem with Hewitt, Roddick I understand, as he is hyped like Nalbandian or Blake to moon, but Hewitt was one of the most skillfull player I have seen

Oh yes he is, it just some rafa fans and Novak fans have now started resisting that idea and created whole meme around that debate.
To be quite honest bruh, tennis is in dire state. Once Novak the last man standing goes away, its gonna be a full mess.

Viva the slice backhand and serve 'n volley play! Timeless style!! I am enjoying watching Feli play more than ever.

The real question is: where was Pedro Martinez during this tie?

Because he was pigeon, presented by Fed fans as great opponent ;)
I mean, he was good player, worior, but won nothing over Federer...

Rublev wishes he had Blake's speed and all court skills.
What is the use of that skill if he can't even make Semi once in slam, which king Aslan did in one attempt.
Rublev already not only equalled but went above Blake carrerwise and he still has many years left.
