though Tahir coming back to take that first set might take some fight out of UNC

we'll see how much they're willing to dig in and battle

I sent an email to the ACC communications guy about the live scoring but I'd be surprised if I get an answer. 1 update in the last hour - beyond horrible.

Actually got a response - he said they are short handed and it's a bad wifi zone. They seemed to do ok in the morning session - not what changed in the afternoon.

What I don't like is how things like that are just ok in tennis. Like earlier in the year with Texas simply not doing live stats for the Wake match because it was mildly inconvenient. There are countless examples of stuff like this every week in college tennis. If this was any other college sport the staff would break their necks to make things work.

Great Comeback by unc to win again vs Duke but almost lost to a team without alvarez. ..but still ups their Rankings big

It is not clear to me that missing Alvarez in doubles and singles is worse than missing Hess-Olesen in singles and Steiro in doubles and singles. UNC basically forfeited #6 singles. Besides, Hess-Olesen, if truly healthy, should be playing at least #3 in singles.

I wonder what's up with Alvarez. It's college tennis so we will never know.

UNC should play Esben at 5. Kelly is a near lock to win at 6 and EHO has a better chance to win at 5 than Gores or DePaulo does at 6.

What's kind of funny is when I was tracking the live scoring on this one I pulled up the ATP scoring app to see who won in Barcelona and when I opened it up it showed someone named Nicolas Alvarez playing a match. Turned out it was a junior match and this Alvarez is from Spain. For a second I thought it was Duke's Alvarez.

Not much better with the B10 tourney. Not sure why.

Really wonder about uncs roster but on other hand with Eho & Steiro out. ..every team gets Problems. ..but if unc wants any chance for more this year they ll need sth like that with Hess-Olesen

I would not expect Hess Olsen to be able to play singles in then ncaas. His back is shot. Had to get two injections to even play doubles and was playing with a large brace under his shirt. Has no mph on his serve and got broken twice in doubles vs uva. Not sure if Steiro will be back either. His foot is in a boot and is on crutches.

Watched the uva unc match today. Ryan Shane is playing better than anyone in the nation. Dominated Schnur when they went indoors.

Looking for a non-Deacon to give their thoughts on Wake's chances tomorrow, which are unfortunately slim in my opinion. If it does happen, what is the roadmap?

1. Shane vs. Rubin (injured when they played earlier)
2. Frank vs. Bogaerts (beat Shane in a super indoors)
3. Altamirano vs. Mansouri (crushed by TSK)
4. TSK vs. Ho (lost to Frank in super)
5. Ritschard vs. Seraphim (Seraphim won in straights)
6. Aragone vs. Tabrizi or Kan (Tabrizi lost to CA and Kan lost to Aragone, both badly)

Surprisingly not many rematches from this year or last. Ho lost to TSK last year in a relatively competitive match. Then with Rubin coming back the Wake lineup and order is different. UVA will be the same except CA and TSK swapping places. In my opinion, Wake's best shot is dubs, 1, 2, and 5. The others could have potential, but UVA will be heavy favorites in each. Thoughts?

Funny uva only is good in tennis. ..

And we won the national championship this year in men's soccer, and the ACC title in women's swimming and women's golf, have won national titles recently in rowing, won the ACC regular season title in men's basketball and ranked as high as #2 for a lot of the season before an injury, and we have been averaging about 5 ACC titles each school year for the last decade which is the most of any ACC school over that period of time, etc.

Yes, except for all that, you are correct.

They are good in everything except football which they are dreadful in

Dreadful? We won a couple of games in 2013! And five more in 2014! :)

UVa men and women win ACC tennis titles on the same day for the second year in a row. That makes five ACC titles this year, with rowing set to make it six pretty soon. Meanwhile, Duke has no titles this school year and will probably finish with none after blowing a lead against Syracuse in lacrosse today. 1979-80 school year was the last time Duke failed to win a single conference title.

Maybe a little bit of the Duke basketball budget needs to shift to tennis? Hmmm, don't be surprised if it moves even more towards the "revenue" sports. Those of us who want to rant about the funding of college tennis ought to go to the local courts, and scream at the chain-link fence. That's what it is worth. Having college programs hang on to what they already have is an admirable goal.

I believe most, if not all, Duke fans could care less about winning ACC championships as basketball has already won a national championship this year. btw, women's golf won the individual title this year.

I don't understand that statement. Are you speaking specifically about basketball? If so, that may be the case but winning a conference title in any sport is a big deal at any school is a big deal. It's part of how a program builds its legacy and improves its ability to recruit talent.

Noah Rubin was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year, which is the first time in ACC history someone has won both in the same year.

congrats on the tennis titles

bad year for duke tennis (expected them to be rebuilding on the men's side, didn't expect the women to be this far outside the national race), but yeah don't try telling a duke alum this was a bad year for duke athletics, banner #5 just got unveiled in cameron indoor to dispute that

the number of conference titles i'd trade for a natty is somewhere in the range of a lot to a boatload - don't pretend it's any different at uva where everyone on thesabre message boards was continually unhappy with the men's tennis underperformance in NCAAs until two years ago, despite more indoor and ACC trophies than you could ever hope for

outside of Georgia, UCLA, USC & Stanford....any school that wins an NCAA tennis championship should be thrilled.

It's been a while for UCLA and Stanford now. They would be thrilled as well

I doubt that USC or Georgia expect to win an NCAA title this year, so I would bet that they would be thrilled, too. Seriously, who is not thrilled to win an NCAA title in any sport? It is incredibly difficult to do.

And Georgia has not won since 2008, which is more recent than UCLA, but not exactly yesterday.

UCLA's last one came in 2005 and before that not since 1984.

Good match in the acc finals, if uva wins the doubs they will be hard to beat in NCAAs....also overheard Rubin's dad talking, said very likely he will be back at Wake next year

Ritschard had the most important win in the ACC final. Big time win moving up to #4 and beating the tough Jonathan Ho. Vital for UVA that he seems to be getting into form at the right time.
