Alcaraz breaks into the Top 10. Will he end up as the greatest spanish tennis player of all time?

I don't know, way too soon to tell. Rafa is the greatest Spanish player of all time as of right now. We will have to wait 15 years and then we will know! I will enjoy the great career I know Carlos will have!!!!

.1% chance he’s as successful as Nadalito, but every trend suggests sans injury, he’ll be an all time great.

—He hasn’t been soundly beaten since last fall—31 matches ago. Streaks like this happen usually only in all time great’s peak/primes.

—He‘s been great in finals.

—His first 75 matches of his career are unusually dominant, something that doesn’t happen, especially not in today’s era.

Nobody will ever reach the heights of Rafa, Rodger and Novak, not even close.. let’s just enjoy the journey and see where it goes. I think some people are expecting way too much. Can’t see him lifting RG this year, I expect an early exit at Wimbledon, as grass is hard to master. The US Open will be his best chance, but I don’t see a breakthrough at Slams this year.

He is terrific and if he stays healthy will have great career. Rather idiotic though to talk about greatest this early.

For sure, just 11 more Barcelona titles, 36 more Masters, 21 more Slams, 209 more weeks @ #1, 5 more YE #1s, one more Olympic Gold.

should be pretty easy.
This is soooooo wrong!!!! I wasn't expecting you to be cheating readers like this. Alcaraz has already won a masters1000, so he only needs 35 more.

Disappoint.

Agreed I feel he’s gonna crash out early within the first four rounds at RG

I would love to see it, and I do prefer to watch Alcaraz now than Nadal at 18, he is much more agressive and spectacular to watch whereas Nadal was more defensive at that time. But let's not forget when Nadal was his age, 18/19, he won: Montecarlo, Barcelona, Rome and RG the same year, winning RG on his first attempt.

What if he tears his achilles tendon? Or ACL on his knee?

Can he then be the greatest Spanish tennis player ever?

The future is unclear, as always.

The thing is, the people who have the best chance to beat him are not playing their best or are facing injuries. I can think of 5 players that have a good chance of winning, or at least pushing him. Still, there will be some opportunities with Rafa and Nole coming into RG without many matches.

And Rafa had to go through PEAK Fed for some of that.

Carlos has Dimanuer, etc.

Does Carlos have the most impressive debut for a top tenner?

Aged just 18 and straight in at #9 with 4 titles including a Masters 1000 to his name?

Who has had a more impressive debut?

There's a guy whose maternal surname is Parera and who made his top 10 debut at #7 aged 18, with 4 titles including a M1000, two 500s, and one 250 at that point of the season (note that Alcaraz has won 3 titles this year). Later, still at the age of 18, he won one more M1000, and on his 19th birthday he beat the world #1 in the SF at a slam.

I think the assumption that the next great young talent will have a long career and win slams into mid 30s like the big 3 did is a bit optimistic. One needs to understand that all of the Big 3 had to reinvent their playing style and work very hard to continue winning styles once their physical decline started.

It is easy to imagine Alcaraz to be dominant and win slams for the next 5-6 years. Maybe even 7-8 years. Though will he be able to be a slam contender for the next 15 years? That will depend a lot on how his game evolves, how motivated he is to make changes in playing style, suffer physically etc..

Also tennis is becoming a more inclusive sport globally with every passing year. 20-30 years back much fewer people had the opportunity to learn the sport at an early age and have a chance to excel professionally. I expect competition to get much tougher in the next 5-10 years and don't think we will see the future ATG's dominate for as long as the Big 3. So IMO Alcaraz is very unlikely to catch up to Rafa in terms of Slams at least. Will be happy if proven wrong though.

This place used be one where you could come for mostly informed opinions.

Now it's "hey click on my thread"

Alcaraz lucky to win 5 slams tops. The guy doens't play as well as any ATGs full stop.

With Nadal and Djokovic getting closer to 40 than 30 and the rest of the tour being inconsistent, and him being THIS good at only 18, that's a bold statement.

Um. Rafa? He debuted in the Top 10 at #7 and had won two 250s, two 500s, and one Masters.

How about we check back in 17 years to see if Carlos has broken Rafa's open era record of never falling out of the Top 10 in his long career (plus his incredible long list of championships) before we start crowning Alcaraz as some ATG yet.

So, just that Parera guy then?
