Andy Murray on Novak Adria tour debacle : ‘Not a good look for the sport’

Oh no, he's contravened the sacred '6-Slams-Or-You're-Not-Entitled-To-Give-Any-Opinion-On-What-Those-Who-Have-Won-At-Least-6-Slams-Have-Been-Up-To' rule.

Despite Andy being one of the most popular athletes ever in sports-obsessed Great Britain, and big-time everywhere tennis is popular, the Talk Tennis Brain Trust have declared he is not allowed to comment on this issue

Understatement of the century Andy.

This is a deliberately mild and general rebuke, so he doesn't really damage his relationship with Novak.

None of the top guys (unless you consider Kyrigos a top guy) will say anything that directly condemns Djokovic.

Tennis has become a very back slapping boys club, where all the top guys are afraid to offend each other. If they have something negative to say about each other, they will use surrogates (like Djokovic's dad, who has all the smoke for Federer).

I enjoy the Novak vs everyone else polarization. I really want him to go full Ivan Drago. Imagine him winning US Open in an empty stadium shouting "I play tennis FOR ME. FOR ME! "

You feel winning would revenge a stupid action, which actually will lead to an even weaker field at the US...?

I think nothing but the road to Canossa can soften this blow.

EDIT: Just saw Novak and Jelena have tested positive, too. Hope they are OK... What a mess the Adria Tour created :(

I was just thinking about how the shutdown must have done wonders for Murray to heal properly. He’s certainly not ahead or far behind most players who haven’t competed since February.
This has kinda equalized the tour. It’s like how it feels for the Australian Open (IMO)

I wonder if Novak will be unhappy hearing this from someone he was on pretty “buddy buddy” terms with.

No way he can be mad at Andy for this. Even Novak has admitted the whole thing was a big mistake. Andy is just saying much the same (it was a mistake and a "bad look") without personally criticising Djokovic. That's Murray being a friend and not throwing Djokovic under the bus (as Djokovic deserves), but also not pretending the situation wasn't messed up.

Well it's certainly doubtful that Fedal will say anything to defend him or try to take the heat off. What could they say that doesn't make them look like pure water KoolAid drinkers?

Wonder if Federer and Nadal will say anything.

Highly doubtful.
Reporter: "what are your thoughts on Djoker and the Adria tour?"

Fed: "I think the sport needs to do its due diligence and set examples of how we can step into this new world we live in. We are working towards that goal, and I hope to be a part of it."

Rafa: "what's going on? I was fishing."

You dont understand the genius of a mind that Novak Djokovic has. He has already shown his displeasure with USO and FO going ahead this year. He doesn't want to give Nadal any opportunity this year to win another major. So what does he do? He organizes this event, knowing fully the risk. He has proven that tennis in these times is not safe. All the more pressure on authorities to not host slams this year. :D

No, he wanted it to forward, but Adria tour style with no restrictions. We saw how that worked out...

For what it's worth, Murray is playing in an exho of his own as we speak:

He plays Kyle Edmund tomorrow

There is usually a ATP Players Council Meeting before a slam, so the politics of the next meeting will be interesting.

Both Nadal and Federer moved back onto the board in the past year, so they will probably work behind the scenes to be rid of him.

No way they can avoid being asked

So i'm excited to see just how vague, non-committal and PR-polished a reply Fed can come up with.
