Are you pumped for 5-6 more years of Nadal and Djokovic?

lol why?

There are no serious, reliable threats to either one.
….

There were no reliable threats for McEnroe in 1984 in the next 5 years. None for Becker in 1989 - he was set to win at least 5 more Wimbledons.

No reliable threats for Navratilova either in 1984. And none for Steffi in 1988, same in 1995.

And those players weren‘t 35 years old at that point.

Federer really took care of his body/schedule, rarely got injured and realistically he lasted until he was 38. Nadal has MAYBE one last decent year in him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he already won his big title. Djokovic maybe has 2 more seasons at the top level and that's it.

Nobody is lasting until 40, not in this sport.
u may be right, but Djokovic has taken care of his body better than anyone that I know of in following tennis for decades. The life expectancy has moved up 2 1/2 years every decade until the opioid epidemic hit. And many athletes are retiring later such as Tom Brady who is ten years older than Djokovic playing a contact sport. Djokovic has consistently claimed he was playing for 5 more years at least and wants to win 30 slams. The latter is unlikely, but as a physician, there is no reason that Djokovic cannot play to 40 and at a slam-threatening level, barring an unexpected, severe injury.

I don‘t think Brady has a lot of running to do.
And don‘t forget - he plays only in a national league. Whereas in tennis you have to compete against players from all over the world.

My only hope is that Alcaraz improves to his peak levels ASAP and denies them any more slams. I honestly can’t handle 6 more years of mindless pushing style tennis, grunting, wedgies, weird OCD rituals, and 30 ball dribbles between serves
Hi, Fed devotee! Your comment is yet another evidence that you are focused on someone's 'wedges', when the someone is playing tennis... Just saying.

So the thrust of this moronic thread is that if a player doesn't hang around on tour until his early 40s to garner an increased rate of losses and injuries that render him unable to even play a singles match in an exhibition tournament he shares ownership of, there is something wrong or derelict about him. This would render about 95 percent of players on tour wrong or derelict in some way. I hold the opposite view, that the player who sticks around that long when he has nothing to give -- and plenty to take from sponsors -- is a bit deranged and a lot deluded.

You young folks don‘t seem to realize what getting older means.
Federer winning the AO 18 at age 36 was a miracle.
So was Nadal winning his 14th and most probably last FO crown a few days after his 36th birthday. To suggest he might win again in 3 years from now is insane.

Djokovic is 35 now and has 21 slams.
He might win one slam next year with a bit of luck, but that‘s it.
30 slams? :-D

They all will be gone in 2025.
Time to accept that.

In fairness to Novak he's basically gotten 2 years wiped and not because of injury. So it's not outlandish putting his coming 36th year closer to 34. And he's obliterated the 30+ record for Slams already so he could win for 3 more seasons.

Then let's also not understate both Fed's choking and having Novadal in his way otherwise 18 WMB, 19 AO, 19 FO, 19 WMB could have been 4 Slams.

Djokovic is 35 and in supreme fitness and injury free. He will not be retiring anytime soon. All these Novak haters are really pathetic

Right now, only 2 people have any chance of beating him. Alcaraz and Nadal. The rest of the field doesnt even come close.

Nadal - GOAT

Hall of Fame
Djokovic will last that long if he chooses to. These half year schedules hes on only prolongs his career more. Nadal won't make it past December 2023 without a career ender. Hes getting hurt every 10 seconds now
Max end date for Nadal is FO 24 IMO..

While Novak is fit, I still believe 2023 could see him getting beaten by the Next gen at slams. A 19 year old winning a slam will sure fuel lot of young players to step up and dethrone the oldies.

People seem quite keen to jump on the 'Nadal has outlasted Fed' bandwagon, but make no comment on what could contrive such a bizarre scenario. It flies in the face of what pretty much every single person on the forum would have bet money on, and there's nary an eyebrow raised. Whatever it takes, huh.
