Isn’t there usually a year end sale on Babolat Natty Gut at year end? TW can you advise?

I always stock up.

I am watching few sites for this. So far no offer.
I buy from overseas though.
I hope they offer a super nice 20%-25% off on Babolat\Lux\Solinco strings.

I have stocked up on pacific few years ago and also Babolat should last me 5 years. To me, Luxilon gut is meh. Wilson is good but still below Babolat and Pacific.

I heard Lux Gut strings are below Babolat guts in terms of performance/feel.

Lux is in no way below Babolat VS Gut in terms of performance. I have more clients who prefer Lux than VS Gut. I stock both Lux and Babolat strings.

Wilson's gut is made by Lux and has been since Babolat stopped produced the Wilson "Made in France" gut. Wilson's gut was "most likely" previously made by Babolat before the BT7 version came out. It cost $55 a pack MSRP per the Babolat/Wilson "agreement'. When Lux started producing Wilson's gut the Wilson Gut dropped in price below Lux's prices.

Lux gut seems to have a coating that makes it feel less lively than other gut like VS and Wilson. Some players like it better especially when they hybrid it with poly. I prefer VS both in fullbed and in hybrids.

Whether I like a string better or not doesn’t make it better or worse in quality - it is just my subjective preference based on my game and my past preferences.

I keep Lux, Wilson, and VS on hand as people tend to prefer one or the other. A majority of what I have is VS.
I stock all three too, most use Babs or Wilson and I use Lux for myself ... :)

Has anyone opened a pack of Lux gut recently? The last 4 Lux packs (procured in the great 50% off sale couple of years ago) had Wilson in them.

All personal preference in choice of strings. Pretty solid choices in natural guts from Babolat, Klip, Lux, and Wilson. I have two packs of Pacific Tough Gut left. That was my personal favorite but TW doesn't carry it any longer.

Used the last of my Red Wilson NG packages (still sitting on about 8-10 packs of the "Made In France" Wilson gut in the older white packages) but just stocking Babolat and Lux now. Clearly, the Wilson and Lux NG are made in the same factory. At least you scored it at 50% off. :)

Yup, I had bought ~30 packs between Lux/Wilson. ;)
All done now.
Worked out ok, except for that one guy who wanted Lux but I opened up my last few packages and they all had Wilson in them.

Which reminds me I have a couple of packs of the Klip gut that I have been meaning to playtest for the last year or so...

The older Babolat VS and Wilson gut was best. VS gut and tonic are still my favorite even though they are a bit stiffer now. Lux is quite a bit stiffer and more durable. It can also be strung lower. But it doesn’t have as much ball feel or pocketing.

Wilson gut (red package) is identical *looking* to Luxilon gut. I have two packages open and compared them side by side. They have the same barcodes, same feeling, transparency, color etc. The only *visual* difference besides the packaging is that one says Wilson Natural Gut on it and the other one says Luxilon Natural Gut. Even the font is the same. Wilson is slightly more yellow.
Both are more durable, slightly stiffer and less elastic than Babolat VS when stringing.
VS is softer and more powerful but less durable.

EDIT: After hitting with them, I've noticed a difference between the two which I highlight below...

The Lux gut has more coating than the Wilson to make it more durable for hybrid stringing. The Lux even has a mark on the string at the mid point to make it easier to cut in half for hybrid stringing.
I only used the red package Wilson gut once a while back, as I still have multiple sets of the older Wilson gut, and most gut players I string for use VS , or Klip guts.

I opened a couple of sets a pal purchased the last time they were on sale and did not notice that. Interesting.

If my memory serves me well Lux gut has 9 strands, and Wilson gut has 8 strands. There was a thread or maybe it was just a link within the thread with information from Wilson and Lux discussing Lux's collaboration with Wilson.

@jim e do you remember the thread discussing the differences between the Red Wilson Gut and Lux Gut?

Personal preference for ngut is bab tonic with pacific tough gut as close second. Too bad we can’t buy tough gut anymore, top notch string.

It was on the IART site, comparison of the 2

You know you are right. They are not identical. I jumped the gun after stringing because they just felt and looked so similar. Wilson was just a tad more yellow than the Lux.
I hit with the Luxilon today (same court/balls, frame, cross string and tension) and I must say it's much firmer than the Wilson, with less pop and for some reason less spin (but that could be me).
If I had the choice, I would always pick Wilson Gut over Luxilon and over Babolat VS.
For all that matters, the back of the Wilson red packaging says "Natural serosa fibers..." so I'm not sure if it's a different part of the gut they use for them. Babolat mentioned that Tonic for example is a different part of the gut than the VS so it could be the same for Wilson.

I play gut/poly hybrids and for me in my setup I feel Wilson is softer than VS which is softer than Lux. Lux is more slippery (i.e. more snap back.spin) than the other 2 which are about the same. I think Lux holds its tension better than VS which holds its tension better than Wilson.

I bet we will get a response from someone with the exact opposite of my thoughts which is different than the perspectives above which is the exact reason I try to have all 3 on hand.

One of the sites has gone up (W & D), but it seems the 'World of Stringers' site still has the same pricing (~ $29 for Babolat VS). I wonder for how long...
Think this is due to Brexit? Should have stocked up more....

The Lux even has a mark on the string at the mid point to make it easier to cut in half for hybrid stringing.
This alone is worth the price of admission. Snip in half first then snip the zip tie and unspool only half set.
Otherwise I am gingerly fumbling with the entire set to find the mid point and not kink.
If we are comparing, VS kinks the fastest even if you look at it bad, Wilson next and then Lux 8-B

I can agree with the above except I think VS is the softest/springiest.
Wilson seems to me the happy middle between the Bab and Lux.

Just realized one of my rackets is about to pop. So KLIP it is this time around.

garbage , breaks too easy
Not for me. I hit a hard ball as well.
Only time the uncoated snaps early if very humid, then it snaps. Once when very humid, string snapped. I placed racquet on side, and few minutes later you would hear it pop and snap ,over and over a few times, as multiple strings snapped over time just sitting there. Other than humidity, the string holds up well, especially indoors hitting.

I just had a set of Lux break after 3 weeks. It was strung at 59 and I'm a 4.0 older player. I forgot to put my string savers in.

When I string nat. gut , I typically place a very small amount of lubricant, I use tri flow, on a small microfiber brush, one small drop on it and lube the main string grommets with a very small amount. This helps the shear snaps of nat gut at the grommets. It does work, as if you shank a ball the string may not snap then, but later in your bag, and find out next time out.
Only downside to this is you need to clean the clamps well when done.

Interesting. I don't have those packs anymore but I am pretty sure mine didn't have the Wilson branding on the back.
But mine were all 16 not 17.
This is from the current order (from the thanksgiving sale) , again 16. No Wilson logo. Sorry about the bad pic.
Haven't opened any of these yet.

I have both the Luxilon NG 16 & 17 packages with Wilson sticker label on the outside of the bag. I have about 60 sets of Luxilon NG left that I purchased for 50% off from two years ago.

I didn’t know that Lux Gut was made in Ireland. Figured it was made in Belgium. Interesting. Thanks.
