Beside Djokovic is there anyone else that slides in both directions?

Seriously, not just on the tour but even at clubs or parks, I’ve never seen a single other player that regularly slides going out wide in both directions. That physical feat alone has to make him the most athletic tennis player of all time. I don’t even think that is something you could train, just pure athletic ability...

I think dimitrov & maybe nadal but otherwise even I am not able to do both legs which is very hard & I do hours of training on court to be able to do that as a 14 year old. Not to the point where I will do it just to look cool, I am on defense quite a lot which therefore leads me having to slide like djokovic. Good thread btw

Monfils I guess comes the closest but Djokovic does it routinely whereas Monfils, Thiem and Nadal seem to do it only out of desperation. I also don’t think any of those guys recovers as well from sliding out to their weak sides as does Djokovic.

I don't know why you say Monfils does it "out of desperation". He is fantastic at it, a natural, and recovers very well.

The best at recovering from sliding and splits was Mecir.

Tommy Paul is known for sliding to his right with his left leg. A closed slide. His coaches try to coach it out of him but he continues to be a closed slider.

Dimitrov and Monfils can do it, but they don't deliberately and consistently slide into winners like Djokovic does.

Answer is almost certainly no.

No other player possesses Djokovic's freakish ability to stretch out his limbs in all directions to virtually abnormal lengths. He is the Elastoman of the ATP.

Doing side to side split is another thing, and recovering from them consistently, multiple Times in a single rally without sustaining any sort of injury in the lower part of your body, throughout the career is another..
Nole is a superhuman in that department, just like roger and rafa in their respective departments, sir.

Of active male players Chung slides well, although I haven't seen much of him. Actually, I'm not sure if he's still active

Here are some points of Rafa sliding on HC's with both his FH and BH. Not to Djokovic levels, but still sliding:

He is sliding out of all those shots, which is very different from sliding into the shots the way that Djokovic is deliberately doing.

To answer the question, sliding on HC is very common these days in either direction, probably more than people think. Seems to be getting more common with the younger gen as well. But few if any do it as often, consistently and effectively as Novak indeed.

The mentioned guys like Monfils and Grigor probably come closest from the top of my mind. Guys like Zverev, Rublev, Hurkacz and Sinner can be seen doing it, but not the same frequency or level.

I'd say Chung is probably the guy out there closest to copying Djokovic movement, and he slides beautifully into splits on either side. Amazing athlete (when healthy), shame he was cursed with a body of glass and so-so strokes.

I reckon Djokovic's sliding earns him about 1-2 points "above expectation" per match, which is pretty significant

You don't watch much tennis, do you.
