Better for tennis if Chung beats Federer

I've never declared Nadal 2017 US Open champion prematurely. Being the favorite doesn't guarantee a victory. You saw what happen to Nole in 2015 RG final when his fans got cocky.
Claiming premature victory is disrespecting, but denouncing muggery isn't? And when Nadal goes out to injury and countless threads come up to gloat on that and even accuse him of faking it that isn't disrespecting either? Only in your mind. Carry on, and enjoy #20, it's just a matter of a few days before it happens.

I never said any of those threads are not disrespectful to Nadal. You can address those thread creators. There are threads that disrespect Federer, Nole and company, but there's nothing you can do. As for claiming premature win, yes, it's disrespectful to other players who are still competing for the title. Capiche ?

No, it really isn't. Federer is GOAT. How is claiming his superiority be disrespectful? Oh... wait. #20 is in the bag, enjoy it.

A lot of anti-Fed fans showing their bitterness as Federer is approaching closer to #20.
Listen. From what i gather on here is that most anti fed or fed haterz are really just tennis fans that might or might not have a fav player or players and fed is not their fav and or they do not worship fed in that weird bizzaro way most fed fans do. Lets be frank there is worshipping going on. I do not worship chung fed nole murray nadal etc.
Also we are just dishing it out a lil and having a lil ribbing. This place was out of their collective minds when djokovic was winning. Every single win he had over a player was rediculed mug loser pidgeon etc and the weak era threads and posts could not be counted. This whoa is me oh the humanity fed and fed fan victim thing is weird.

I don't think a given age distribution is good or bad for tennis. Nor is a given technique or style of play good or bad for tennis. My thoughts:

Good for tennis:

Players who inspire more younger players to take up the sport
Players who inspire younger players to win the right way: good sportsmanship, good preparation habits
Players who lose gracefully
Players without bad habits for younger observers to imitate

Bad for tennis:
Players who blame shift and complain
Players who are involved with drugs or have trouble with the law
Players who smash racquets, curse officials or opponents regularly, and have other outbursts well into adulthood
Players who chase skirts too enthusiastically
Players who rely too much on natural talent rather than disciplined preparation

Chung has some admirable qualities and is fun to watch. It remains to be seen how he compares with Federer in the "good" and "bad" categories above. The pressures and microscope of making it this far into a slam will begin to show more and more of the above issues in the coming year. I hope he is as good for tennis as Federer has been.

I agree that a Federer win would Not be bad for tennis but a Chung, Cilic or Edmund win would be better. Roger has won so much for so long that he does not need the win to establish his greatness, whereas, the other players left do need a slam win to establish theirs. Still, if Roger does win this AO, it will be well deserved and a tribute to talent, effort and proper game style.
Agreed... He doesn’t need anymore hardware, I would just like to see how far Rog can go (ego, I know).
And the young ones will/can benefit from having a chance to play him on the big stage.

But it's silly to say it's not better for Chung to win as far as tennis goes, that's all. Id never expect a fan of any player to root against their guy, just be objective about how bad tennis needs a young star.

I agree with you. I would really like Federer to win #20 here but in truth, if Chung or Cilic wins the title, that's fine.

The problem with most fans on tennis forums is that they literally seem to live through these tennis players. It's some scary stuff.

It's better for the sport of tennis for Fed to win again and again and again and again and then some more. He is a living legend, and by far the most popular tennis player ever. He is the ONLY tennis player (other than perhaps Serena) who transcends the sport and keeps it in the global minds of even non tennis fans. He is singularly the most important commodity that the sport of tennis has. This is THE GUY you want to keep around for as many years as possible!!!! HELLO!!!!

Chung winning the AO and then becoming a journeyman player or a guy who has a long career with a peak in the top 25 does nothing for the sport. Well, it may actually get more Koreans playing tennis, similar to Li Na in China, but other then that, MEH.

I'd be more interested in someone who wins a slam who is capable of dominating and winning multiple slams for years. Otherwise, I'm not interested is seeing Fed or any of the Big 4 or 5 losing to some guy who then doesn't back it up. No thanks.

To say that Fed is is the only thing right now keeping tennis in the minds of a global audience is laughable. There was tennis before Fed and believe it or not, there will be tennis after Fed (and that time may be coming sooner rather than later). Will tennis take a hit when he retires? Sure it will but the sport goes on and true fans of the sport of tennis will still be here watching, just like the times before Fed dominated.

I am a Fed fan but this cult of personality he has with some people here is kinda creepy to be honest.

Fed will not be on scene from Apr- June and the talk will all be about 11 RG after 2 weeks from now

And how do you think this place looked when. Djok reaches every final from AO15 to AO 16 ?
This place has already been CRAZY toxic after 2017. Hell there's been 3 threads in the last 2 weeks where legions of Fed fanboys argued relentlessly about how Rafa F'ing Nadal isn't a true all-time great... How many threads can we have where Djoker and Rafa are labeled as "pushers?" This place is basically a Federer tribute forum. And yes, it was the similar during the Ultron period with truckloads of Djoker fans running their mouths.

TTW is basically a toxic cesspool with a handful of legit decent tennis fans.

Nice rant. But everybody knows Djokovic fans like playing the victim. That mean nasty Roger Federer not going away so my poor Djokovic can have the spotlight himself which him and his fans crave. The happens of 2017 and the beginnings of 2018, IMO is karma for wishing a certain player to become irrelevant only have your fav to become irrelevant. Your whining at the thought of Federer still being in the picture and possibility of winning another AO is quite amusing.

You know what else is creepy? Creating accounts just to pretend to be a Fed fan to show your show your resent towards Federer because your favs “cult of personality” is weak and your ego can’t take it.

Ahhh yes, the time when a 35-36 year old Federer was sweeping Slams with almost no resistance whatsoever. WORSE than anything that's happened since then, but was "inflating resumes" a problem back then? Was there any worry about the future of tennis?

:-D:-D:-D
How about we implement this in 2020 ?
Didn’t read.
Once AO 09, RG 11, USO 11 travesties been paid off then sure.
Better for tennis if Roger wins #20 and makes headlines across the globe.
...
Fed has said many times in the recent years he is all for the young generation to nudge him out. But he is not going to voluntarily make way for them.

if Chung has it in him let him show his mettle and take Fed out.
Ditto for the other two, no voluntary stepping aside. Of course, you are singing a different tune when they are the ones winning.

But look at silly me, discussing tennis in these demanding times...
Anyone still truly interested in tournament wants Fed to win. Chung still has time.
Dismissed. Chung can wait, Federer not. Clock is ticking.
Thiem and NextGen still have time. Let's have Djokodal win a few more. Nothing wrong with that surely...
Only thing that’s good for the sport is Federer distancing himself from both Djokovic and Nadal to stand alone leaving both miserable fanbases in ruins.
Hope the post ages as well as it has so far.

AND OF COURSE
Tennis is saved with your hero put out to pasture IMO. Good riddance.
Yeah. Good riddance indeed...
