Cilic to expose federer false dawn

:D

With the obligatory false dawn intro it's time to get to the very heart of the matter. The TTW Federistas are in complete denial of the threat Cilic poses. From handwringerering at Auz now we have gross overconfidence in the face of all facts?(age, no return game on grass for years) This menace must be stopped:

Fedr to expose Meles false dawn. :D
Keep denying. Cilic took Fed 5 sets last year and is playing better this year. He thumped Murray in Cincy. Destroyed all in his path at 2014 US Open. Marin is going to be hell on wheels and Fed is going to have to do better than that fifth set at Auz if he wants this.

I enjoyed the deNadalization much more.:p Fed deserved an RG bone for all the titles Nadal denied him.:D
Nadal never expected to get anywhere at Wimby. he made the excuse that he didn't play well against Muller, but what did he expect ? didn't play any prep tournament for Grass.... Rafa just wanted to go fishing,, he didn't want to be criticized for skipping Wimby

I was being facetious.

I agree that Cilic is dangerous. I saw both SFs.

Cilic is looking like a man possessed atm.

But now that you've made this thread, I feel more confident ;)

Maybe Fed can sneeze on Cilic at the net during coin toss so he can give him a cold too.

Since seeing Cilic's last match I partially agree with @Meles.

Not to the extent of predicting a win for Cilic but rather suggesting that perhaps the odds are around equal, and depending on how serious Fed's sinuses are it could tip things against him.

I had bad sinus problems for decades, and when the sinuses get really bad you don't sleep much.

A lot depends on how much the "sick" part are rumors vs the Fed camp trying to mask the truth.

No outcome tomorrow will surprise me. Betting on one or the other is a fool's bet at this point.

The Muller match with Nadal reminds me of his run in with Djoko in Madrid for 4 hours on clay. Nadal preceded to lose RG and had to skip Wimby. Rafa may be fishing all Summer.

Well I think this might be a great match. Complete denial on here about the gravity of the situation. This is a troll thread of sorts designed to make Fed fans nervous.;) A good dose of reality will be good for some, or the fall may be too devastating.

If I bet, I'd bet on Cilic given the odds.

Will Federer's new backhand withstand the might of Cilic? His whole game and favorite status is due to that one shot and its impact on his return game. Just a house of cards waiting to fall potentially. Fed wins this and he's a favorite at Wimby for several more years. This is too much to believe.

My analysis is that Fed's return HAS been better this year.

But you have to weight that against his age and the fact that he may be sick.

I would not bet, but I don't anyway!

I very much want Fed to win, but I have to admit that the devil on my shoulder is thinking about how much fun it would be to see Fednatics eat a large meal of crow...

Nadal said he will play 2 warmup tourney in summer then US open and likely take the rest of the year off. but more likely he will just play 1 warmup and US open. and take the rest of the year off. that is probably wise thing to do unless he loses really early in that 1 warmup tourney

Heh, that photo shoot was so bizarre. Think I was so weirded out by it the first time I came across it, I didn't even notice the AO trophy. Can you even imagine something similar with the Wimby cup? I think the AELTC would take him to court.
Ahhh! Well AELTC should get some of his money from his whole brand which he really started at Wimby with those trophy acceptance getups. I must say though this is pretty bad ass:

Lol, if Federer plays as well as he did in that fifth set, Cilic is toast.

Federer will likely win in 3-4 sets. I don't think he's gonna let it slip past him a fourth year in a row. We'll see.

Are you this crazy ? At 36 years age, nothing is a guarantee . Fed may fall off a cliff even if he wins tomorrow , starting the USO series and not even add one more title . And you somehow make it that this win guarantees Fed to be favorite for several more years ?

He's just a huge favorite at USO which I've been saying was coming down the pike since middle of Auz Open.

The reality is that Federer is not going to fall off of some cliff any time soon. The speed decline now is very slow. Stamina should be great. Strength still great based on the serve numbers. Intellect amazing. It's all rather amazing and Djokoray aren't stopping him and Nadal's false dawn has been exposed on fast surfaces at Wimby. Murray has no chance. Djokovic's elbow and work ethic will keep him down a peg.

On the Nextgen front. Thiem will be hard pressed to stop Fed. Zverev is the only legit threat.

If Fed wins this tomorrow I think he's got a couple more Wimbledons in him. The success of the geriatrics this year has convinced me. If that backhand has brought back his prime return game on grass how is anyone going to stop that now?

I prob shouldn't even be reading half of this drivel. :p I can't be the only Fed fan torn between absorbing all possible pre-match hype and tuning it out entirely until 1:59:59 Greenwich Mean Time.
We just haven't had a good drivel thread. All of the other big 3 fans living in glass houses, so leave it to NextGen Meles to cause foment. Honestly Fed playing great for years would be a treasure for these young players to have the chance to measure up.:D

It actually came out wrong; by "this drivel," I wasn't referring to this thread, specifically. Place would be much less dynamic without your contributions. Just the overall content... some worthwhile, but almost wasted energy to sift for it on The Eve. :)

I think Fed will play lights out in the final! He was clearly not at his best against Berdy as soon as he got broken back in the first. Also he more than painfully remembers being blasted off the court at the USO in 14. He doesn't want that to happen again and will put his foot down right from the start. And he can. Aside from the cold he's fit and injury-free!
But who knows? Marin might come out firing on all cylinders like in 14... or he might show some nerves. It's his 2nd major final, the first at Wimbledon and the first against a top player.
As a Fed-fan I hope for Fed in 3, as a tennis fan I hope for an epic 5-setter in which the better player may win!

It's a good thread. I said to myself when Fed lost to Djoker in the 2014 Wimbledon final that his time for winning majors was over. The 2015 grand slam losses didn't hurt at all, I knew they were coming. This year's Oz was a gift from the gods, but at some point, you worry the 35 year old is going to show his age in one match over a fortnight. And, in this case, a 28 year old on his A game is ready to seize the opportunity.

We need more build up for this match. The handwringerer denial syndrome just is killing the build up.

Federer is old like Venus; it's ok.:D

The view from 60,000 feet doesn't quite add up. If Fed trounces an in form Cilic tomorrow Christmas has come early for Fedfans this year. A sensational triumph is possible with ramifications for years to come.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Cilic humbled and hobbled in this match because as a Thiem fan Cilic is enemy number 1 in the rankings (and probably on the court.)

I dunno what it is. Wouldn't call it apathy... but it's like the usual contenders have collectively fallen by the wayside. Fewer dogs in the fight (and possibly for the foreseeable future). Wouldn't call the match itself a foregone conclusion. But there is some irony that RF seems to have won the attritional struggle that most of his fans abhor. I'm reminded of an image that was floating around here for a while with all of the slumped carcasses of the legends rotting in the gutter while a beaming Djoker, bathed in holy light, strolled the Valley of Death.

Kabob you know you'd rather have seen Zverev in place of Raonic and Thiem in place of Berdy for Fed's last Wimby matches; Fed schooling the youngstars was what this tournament needed (not RaoMug and Berdbrain doing the schooling

LOL. McEnroe said he told Raonic that this Zverev kid was going to be good and hard to beat in the future, but now was a different story. He got one more match out of Milosh once again.

Bodo's final preview commences with the following utterance:

"It's Marin Cilic's turn again to ride the mechanical bull that is Roger Federer."

And with a hearty retch, I bid you all a pleasant evening. Lol, seriously, what a hook!

I dunno if it's overconfidence, it's just an acknowledgement of what the odds are. Surely if they played this match 100 times, Federer would win more often than not. I'm still nervous about the match, but Federer is in decent form, has the reserves to go 5 sets, wants it badly enough, and has the crowd behind him. I think it'll be enough.

I'm worried for Fed tomorrow. I have this sinking feeling that Cilic is going to win.

I really hope I'm wrong. Would love to be wrong.

well put. Then the two caracasses resurrected and traded places with the stroller, who got kind of carcassy himself. It was interesting at first, except that the new strollers were each too dominant on their respective surfaces to allow for any competitive interest. Maybe we get some tomorrow?
This is why tennis needs Djok back.

I really can't lose on this one; if both could somehow lose that would be best. Maybe Fed barely surviving five sets, aggravating his knee, and deciding to retire on the spot with his 8th Wimbledon. But no, I don't want that. We must have many historic showdowns with Thiem and Zverev:
1. Federer in the final of RG with Thiem
2. Zverev at Auz
3. Kyrgios(ok Zverev) at US Open.

Fedal vs. NextGen is what I want and grass season has not gotten the job done.o_O

I definitely would if those two young dummies would learn how to construct points to play winning tennis and figure out how to accentuate their strengths. The difference between Zed Younger/Thiem and Rao/Berd is that the latter two are old hats at riding what limited talent they have as deep as they can get into Grand Slams.
