Clay season set to be the most boring ever yet again

Can't wait for grass season, another year of this boring clay where we already know who will win all the titles including the FO.
Its the most boring thing ever.
When will we see a player emerge that can at least somewhat challenge this freak of an animal from spain on this dirt surface?

Thiem out in some really good match time against him last year, but there were also some other great matches through the whole season. Nothing boring about it for me. Love the places they play, the atmosphere, and overall play.

Clay season baby!

Probably posting from the court between sets.

Exactly. The only guy who can challenge Nadal now is Thiem. The other ones are either in injured or are playing not good.Nadal will probably win all clay tournaments he plays this year

I am actually going in a different direction with the clay season to make it interesting for me.

The role of Blade is played by Nadal. The day walker is now the clay walker.

Hmm... Wondering if the OP is meant to be sarcastic or really just as dumb as it sounds.

Nice post ;)

In short - the only one who can stop Nadal on clay is... Nadal himself.

Isn’t the Nadal factor in fact a good thing? He forces everyone else to raise their level. Please just explain me how exactly would we get better matches without him. All finals would be like the final of Rome 17 except that Djokovic would be replaced by Thiem.

It’s just like saying the grass season during 04-07 would be better without Federer. Quit whining.

LOL, If you expect Thiem to beat Nadal, you are in for major disappointment.

It took Djokovic 20 tries to get the better of Nadal at FO.

So, just tune out the next few weeks of Rafa and watch WTA or other ATP matches.

Zverev. All cocky and arrogant, calling Nadal out, only to be put down with a beating.

All the other players are basically the Vampires....Nadal as the Clay Walker, has all of their strengths and none of their weaknesses.

Nadal is like 2-1 on the season, how can you pencil him in for anything?

Because it's clay season baby, Rafa is like Wolverine as soon he steps foot on it.

Besides he did have a solid AO run to the quarters. A bit of an injury scare there but I doubt it was anything serious (for pro standards), I firmly believe he could have played IW/MIami but chose to save himself for the clay sweeping.

Nadal to equal Court’s record (male or female) of 11 titles at a single slam.

Federer to grin smugly from the sidelines, knowing that his Wimbledon win is assured.

All other players to grind themselves into inevitable defeat on the terre battue.

So be it.

Fed's Wimbledon win is not assured, grass as a surface lends itself to upsets. There's always a chance he gets outhit/outserved even if he's in good form.

To beat Nadal at the FO, you have to outrally him from the backcourt for 3 whole sets, good luck with that unless you're peak Novak or zoning Soderling.

I won’t miss this Clay season with Nadal , Delpo , Diego , Coric , Chung ,Goffin ,Zverev and Thiem. Also seeing Wawrinka and Djokovic trying to defend those Clay points to stay in the top 100

Sure he wasn’t ‘running away’ from Fed?

Yeah true.Nadal win at FO is 99 percent sure.Federer at Wimby is different but he should win it.The last time there was big upset there was 2013.Since then 3 finals and one semi final.

Don't you realize that the same argument can be made against the grass season? We all know who will win Halle and Wimbledon. Nobody can challenge the Swiss legend on grass. The over-dominance of one man makes the grass season boring according to your same logic.

I dont mind nadal winning all of the events, its just so boring to watch. Slomo baseline should stay in the wta

If the clay season is boring for its predictability, so is the grass season. Stop with the double standards

You have a point.Though there was time when it was challenged but the guys who did it now are not in good state.

As if the grass season last year was interesting. Federer rolling through Halle and Wimbledon barely breaking sweat. The field is general is pretty weak and Fedal are still VERY good on their surfaces

I don't get the grass season being predictable argument given (some) RAFA fans like to point out that Fed isn't as dominant at Wimbledon as RAFA is at RG. Fed's last three Wimbledon titles were from 2017, 2012 and 2009.

It is predictable because in most cases Federer reaches final or semi final.Only exceptions 2010,2011 and 2013.I am talking about the period since 2003.Of course Fed is not dominant like Nadal at RG

2016 was his only SF loss but he was one point away from losing in the QF, 1R in 2010 and 3R in 2012 were dangers. RAFA has just lost 17 sets outside of his two losses and had two five setters. Very exciting.

Since 2005 RG has been won by 4 different men. Since 2003 Wimbledon has also only been won by 4 different men. So neither tournament has been that interesting in terms of who has won it for a long time. Fed and Rafa are the only first time slam winners since 2003 and 2005. Diffult to see a first time winner winning either tournament this year.

Of those who have previously won a slam Del Po maybe at Wimbledon after what he did in 2012 Olympics and 2013 Semi, as well as developing a nice slice backhand since wrist surgery. And Cilic again at Wimbledon. Both previous slam winners.

That's what I am saying. This forum is full of Fed fans thus all the clay bashing even though the truth is that grass season last year was equally as boring as the clay season

This whole section is full of Fed, Rafa fans bashing each other. And bashing Novak when he’s down. Murray fans have got off easy ATM.

Amazing how Rafa is so incredibly injured during the first part of the year, and unable to play the early hardcourts. Then Miraculously he’s at 150% for clay, then back to a whimpering cow around the end of grass season.
It’s just baffling. Not to mention the VB griping about Fedr skipping clay...when their hero barely shows for hardcourts.
