Well I guess certain players won't be dropping down the rankings like a stone and will have a good (undeserved) seeding at the slams. Good for business. Not necessarily good for sport.

Rafa wasn’t the only one disrupted.
Rafa missed out on going for his 12th MC & Barcelona titles, his 10th Rome title (played at the wrong time of the year when he wasn't match fit), his 5th USO title and his 6th Roger's Cup title.

Let us not put an asterisk on Djoker's No 1 reign.

With this next-next-next gen players , he is going to be there in that slot for the foreseeable future.

Historic rankings should be suspended until the 52 week ranking cycle can be restored and everyone should have protected rankings as at March 2020 for seeding/entry purposes only.

Rafa #3 for RG confirmed.

He will win, but this makes things more interesting

Rafa fan's beloved slam H2H will be 11-6 :D
Not really, that's 1130 points for Rafa saved until RG and around 1k points for Thiem. It helps against Medvedev for sure as it only guarantees him something like 300 points. Good thing that Novak got the #1 ranking record before all of this clowning started. Saved us a lot of what ifs with the AO win despite being hurt the most by protected rankings out of the current top 4.

That's even worse. At least now it's reacting to last 12 months period. The only problem really was to make those 2019 events reach 52 weeks, so that weights would be as close as possible.

"Rafa lost, so it was the wrong time to host the event"

What’ll really bake your noodles is when the ATP revises the rankings system after Novak retires to put his corrected total at 309 weeks, lol.
This makes no sense. Even with the usual 52 week system, Novak would still be at No.1. In fact, he has lost 22 weeks from his total tally when the rankings were frozen last year. You may root against him for whatever reasons, but at least get the math right.

Must keep a certain someone in top 10 :sneaky:

These dudes will do anything to protect Federer's Top 10 ranking!
Anything to keep Federer seeded at slams
Roger can lounge the rest of the season while keeping top 6 spot and $30M Uniqlo tip
The truth is Djokovic has never needed these measures and has won enough to be #1, but Federer actually needs these to remain in top 10. Big difference.
