Depressed Federer fans check in here

I still think he can win the big tournaments but everything MUST go right for him. He can't wait for his opponents to crack anymore like in the past.

Doesn't hurt as bad as Wimbledon. Guess I'm expecting it more now. It is sad the more you think about it, so I just don't think about it.. There's too much tennis going on right now.

I got up at 6:30am in Hong Kong time to watch the match... now I am in the office and will be depressed for the rest of the day. :(

Today is going to suck

Look at it this way.. At least you don't have to see Nadal complete the "Roger Slam"

Sadly that's what its come to know. In 2007 we KNEW Roger was going to win. In 2010 We hoped Roger would win. In 2013 we hoped he would make it to the second week!

2014: hoping for him to qualify for 1st week? ;)
Seriously, no one can take his resume away from him. It's not like any player is currently close to 17. I think that should be a comfort for Fed fans.

Apparently not for spanish players.

735 career matches vs 1123 career matches says it all.

Both chronological age and more importantly "mileage" matter. This why Agassi was able to play till his mid-30s since he spent most of his late 20s in tennis exile. Mileage-wise Federer is physically older than Robredo.

2 for 16. Nasty. With that many chances I would have expected Roger to break.

The previous big losses, the other guy was was lights out (Robredo was solid but doesn't have one giant weapon).

Tsonga in the Wimby QF will always be the worst for me because I had just flown into London with my SF ticket; got to the hotel and saw the 5th set. Still can't believe it actually happened.

yea your right dude. Explains how he is serving harder than ever to. Most guys who get to 30 add 5 to 10 miles an hour on their serve. Sure your right. I cant talk about this or they will ban me anyway.

I am not depressed. Right from the start I know it is a death draw that he would run into Rafa early anyway.

Are you talking about Federer or Robredo? No way is Federer serving harder/faster than he was in his prime.

I know what you're insinuating - and insofar as Spanish players are concerned - I agree. ;)

I am. But they will shut down the thread if we talk about it to much. They have already done it to me.

That's ... I don't buy that. Hewitt is in the same round, and Tommy is his age and beat him. And Ferru, who is the same age, just won his match (and it was a tough one). Come on.

When you're an athlete chronological age doesn't matter as much as mileage does i.e. how much physical stress your body has endured. In those terms Federer (1123 career matches) is physically older than Robredo (735 career matches).

Quite frankly I'm glad Robredo(a fellow spaniard) denied Ralph from getting the 'Fed cup'. Ouch!

Lol, I can see you dragging that fake smile from off the ground all the way over here. You better fake it bro :)

Fed wasn't the favourite for USO and certainly wasn't beating your boy in the QF, so maybe you should go watch some MJ video to lighten your mood a bit.

Tbh I kind of agree. Sad as it is, he was never beating Nadal anyway. At this point, I'd rather be spared that inevitability.

Checking in too. I hate to say it but federer is done. His consistency has gone out the window. It's hard to explain this demise when just a year ago he was No 1 in the world.

Federer has gone up in the rankings so it's not all bad news Fedards.

How so when he has not defended the points he won by getting to the quarters at last years open? I would have thought that losing before the quarters would result in ranking points lost and a further slip down the rankings?

I am actually pretty amazed that a guy could hang in as long as he did without a forehand! I mean No Forehand at all and he went to a tiebreaker in the first set and went 6-4 in the last set. Crazy! I think that is a testament to how great he is. I didn't really see his serve working either, It was average.

i got to see it live - was coo...

It looked like Fed was winning points really easy when he didn't care (not break points, etc), and he was just choking mentally.

I heard the announcers saying something similar as well - lacking focus.
If it's mental - means age aint a factor i'd assume...

On a semi-related side note - pretty awesome to see every 4th round match on Monday having at least one 1hbh player in it. =)

I mean federer he just needs to get some ambition and motivation. Age is definitely not the problem. A lot of "old" guys are there full of motivation and physically prepared. Fed seems to have no joy playing. So why does he continue to do it?? money? sponsors?? i dont know, but he better start doing something and fast, this is becoming humilliating

Will Fed retire or soldier on like a Hewitt taking beatings from anyone and everyone with no chance of winning a major?

Ok I'll cheer you guys up. I can see the future, and this is what's going to happen:

Rafa will win USO to bring his tally to 13.
Over the next 2 years, Fed continues to struggle, while Nadal wins 3 more.

French Open, 2016, Fed & Nadal meet in the final at French Open.

Fed wins and retires.

Why being depressed ?

Does it change your life whether RF wins or lose ?

Its called being emotionally invested, y'know. Its pretty common in sports and also where a lot of the entertainment of it is derived from. Of course, you seem more financially invested in tennis than emotionally ( betting etc. ) so perhaps you do not truly enjoy watching tennis or following a tennis players career.

I don't think being the #1 money-making tennis player in the entire world is getting to be humiliating. Plus I think he's the only tennis player in the Top Blah making huge bucks.
