Djokovic Press Conference

This is part of the press conference after the Dubai loss.

I have been as big a critic of Djokovic as anyone these last few months, but this was a very impressive press conference from him.

Just posting in case anyone hasn't seen it.

I think his analysis of the match is spot-on, and there are some interesting questions and answers about the bigger picture of his career beyond the tournament.

Good interview, thanks for sharing.

I wonder why the video is flipped horizontally the wrong way? Was the uploader using the selfie camera of his/her phone? They should flip it horizontally before uploading it.

Shouldn’t this go in Former Pro Player forum?

I would be much more willing to hate on Djokovic and just throw him to the wolves entirely, but he genuinely seems to get it. I know a lot of it is PR, he’s probably been trained on responses, but throughout his career don’t really see an evil or arrogant person behind those eyes. I see a confused and rather uneducated person.

Hope he can recover and get back to his best - I don’t get any joy seeing one of the greatest athletes of all time throwing his career away like this.

Your not wrong. However he lied to try to get into the Aussie open. I don't know what he is doing. I don't really care to tell you the truth. He can wander around like a Gypsy or whatever.

He is a class act. They all are including Zverev and tsitsipas. As Medvedev said tennis is a friendly sport outside the court.

This is a highly schooled insult that may also be well trained. What some see one way, others may see another. So much for the confusion there. Sometimes, it's better not to take the main stream schooling as there are way too many ill educated people around. Just have a look at our highest level officials with all sorts of degrees from the finest universities and see how they are destroying the world! I am quite certain that Novak sees both sides of the coin as well as he sees the journalists crystal clear which is remarkable for the man that spent most of his life on tennis courts.

Thanks. I hadn't seen this and he was impressive! I have not been a huge fan, but have immense respect for his talent and willingness to stand by his beliefs. Hope he will be playing again soon.

well it is a nice candid interview but i dont see anything groundbreaking about it..
i think his main problem is being compared to roger & rafa..
if u compare him to the new players he'd prob win the sportsmanship award every year

That's an excellent observation there; and, it is very well said too.
Roger & Rafa have been suck-ups while Novak a rebellion, if we draw GOAT parallels.
The sportsmanship award is partial to say the least.

You do wonder how Rafa is reading all this. He is playing very well. He could work himself into truly great form and then do what Federer did to him in 2017 to Djokovic. Or what he already did to Djokovic in 2013. But does that motivate Nadal? I am curious.

yes agree with some of what you say.

He's a complicated guy. As far as PR and graciousness goes, he sort of swings wildly. Sometimes he's genuine and sometimes not. Typically pretty gracious to other players in defeat or when he wins at the net/final handshake. Sometimes in press conferences there will be little tells that give away what he REALLY thinks of other players or if he truly should have won/lost, etc--still mostly gracious about them but arrogant about himself in all the ways (not just as a player). A person can be both. I think his PR is generally pretty bad to average though when he is genuine (and humbled) it's his best tactic in PR life.

I do think he is confused, perhaps uneducated--most likely in the sense of a person who dedicates themselves almost solely to one pursuit and does extremely well at it and is thrust into a platform where people listen to him and he gets to speak on all manner of things and can influence due to his career success and wealth. It's the way of the world unfortunately, that we attribute career success in such a niche area and apply it such that we allow influence from those same people AS IF their success applies in all or many areas, allowing that influence. Such as letting Djokovic be some sort of authority on vaccines and the like or letting a failed businessman and tv huckster be president.

So yeah I think he's both arrogant and confused and has the power to influence others--a dangerous combination. He might "get it this week" but be back off it next week. I feel like he can easily compartmentalize stuff, like a lot of us.

He's almost always good at press conferences -- he's one of, if not, the best on tour at it.
Like I've always said, while he can be arrogant and stubborn - and I certainly disagree with his stances on you-know-what,
I still see him as a good, bright, interesting and interested (in the world and others) person.
