If one of them has to? Would go with Nadal or Djokovic?
Assume only one of them does in this scenario.

I'm just interested. Post why as well I guess but keep it respectful to both guys

Only Federer fans vote in the poll please. Pretty please? :p
Djokovic. I like his game more than Rafa's, I like that he takes the ball early on the rise and hugs the baseline like Fed and I see him as the successor to Fed in terms of all year dominance. Neither quite managed to dominate clay for obvious reasons, but Novak's done even better than Fed there with his many Masters victories.

As for Rafa, there are just too many things not to like, but @vive le beau jeu ! should have the honor...

No it won't. Nadal has his Grand Slam titles more evenly distributed by surface than Djokovic. Nadal has won at least 2 Grand Slams on each surface (hard, grass and clay). On the oher hand, Djokovic only has 1 Grand Slam on clay. 2 Grand Slams on each surface >>> 1 Grand Slams on each surface. Djokovic needs to win 2 extra Roland Garros to have his Grand Slam titles more evenly distributed by surface than Nadal.

You should take a refresher course in statistics to understand distribution

Depends upon what kind of Devil we can dredge up.

It's funny how many fed fans respect Nadal a LOT more than Djokovic, but many fans would choose Djokovic over Nadal in this question. Including myself.

Thing is, I always respected Djokovic way more than Nadal. Reason? Much more gratious loser. Nadal is ALWAYS injured if he loses match.

He will never surpass Fed as he will never have 6 AO 8 Wimbledon 5 US open's and 6 WTF.
So? Nadal only needs more GS titles overall to surpass him.

Federer lacks the Olympic Gold in singles (played once every four years) which compensate Nadal's lack of ATP finals (played every year).

By the way Sampras has more AO, more WB and more USO than Nadal. Yet Nadal has surpassed his GS achievements, because overall he has more Grand Slams. Sorry, not Nadal's fault if Federer never dominated Wimbledon as much as Nadal did with Roland Garros.

I respect them both, how can you not when they're the second best player ever and arguably the third best player ever? They've earned it.

I would absolutely choose Nadal to break Roger's slam record over Djokovic for myriad reasons. I don't think Djoker will ever do it, but if one surpasses 20, he's the GOAT in my book.

Why are you speaking for Fed fans? So millions of people world-wide will "change the criteria" if either reach 21?

Not my opinion.

Number of slams is really important as a matter of fact but not the only one. Distribution domination and impact on the game as well. Nadal is no where close to Fed.

Olympic Gold is an important achievement but it's nowhere close to a YEC. If so Marc Rosset Nicolas Massu are GOAT :laughing: and Borg Mcenroe Becker Lendl Edberg Sampras Wilander are rubbish players.

I think Marc Rosset would trade his Gold Medal for 4 YEC:-D:-D and so would Nicolas Massu:p:p

Sampras has never won all 4 slams and didn't make an impact on clay just doing just as bad as Nadal in indoors conditions. Sampras's task was harder as surfaces were really different back then. Grass used to be really fast and clay slow. Nadal winning Wimbledon would not have been possible in the nineties highlighting Agassi's achievement in 1992.

If someone is going to overtake Roger's slam count, he'll likely be considered "GOAT" by many. And I'd prefer Novak because I find his résumé more worthy than Rafa's of being the best tennis player because he's much more well-rounded.

If he gets there, he'll likely have a similar number of weeks at #1, a similar surface spread, all 9 Masters under his belt, at least 5 YEC. He also has at least 1 non-calendar slam and at least 1 win against all 3 of his main rivals at all 4 majors.
Nope. He never beat Muzza at SW19

From that article arguing that the Big 3 aren't necessarily GOATs, "The speed at which these three titans eclipsed Sampras' record, after Emerson's had stood for so long, means a basic haul of major titles is just the entry fee into the GOAT debate. Other aspects of the record then become much more important. Those include head-to-head records, success in other first-rate events (like Masters 1000s) and overall winning percentage." Well, the Big 3 hold the top 3 records in Masters 1000s won and have better winning percentages than anyone else who has ever played the game other than Borg (Nadal and Djokovic currently lead Borg there but Federer doesn't), but Borg retired early so his W/L didn't suffer from age decline like most players do. So in writer Bodo's own suggested criteria, the Big 3 are basically still on top.

When Nadal does, its just going to prove what everyone has been saying for years about him being the clearly better player true. I think you'd want to avoid that kind of comeuppance personally.

Surprised with the result, Nole is the only hope that can stop the Nadal from surpassing Fed. I guess its time for Roger fans to give Novak some love for him to beat Nadal at RG again.

Nadal for me. I've never really been able to warm to Djoker tbh he's obviously one of the greatest there's ever been but it's hard to root for him lol. He's the Ronaldo of tennis to me, clearly one of the GOATs but I can never call myself a fan of theirs

Rafa has grown on many Fed fans over the years.
For me any rivalry vanished in South Africa last year. That was really special and clearly they had a bond and then of course Federer tweet after Nadal hit 20 just basically ended the rivalry and i hope they both win their pet slams this year. Genuinely will root for Roger at W if Rafa gets 21 at FO. Out of the 2 i no longer care who is GOAT. Both deserve it.
So excited to see Roger back. Ill watch every match.

Yeah, I will be very happy for Rafa to get his 21. Sure, I wish Fed would have kept winning and ended up with more, but cant help but be happy for Rafa.

Federer was unlucky. But for injury he could have won AO 2020 W 2020 and AO 2021 and probably USO 2020. Remember he was owning Djokovic AO2020 for half an hour. 2 points from 5-1 wasnt he before his back gave out totally? I think Rafa was unlucky AO 2011 USO 2014 USO 2018 and AO 2014. In some ways it is fate they are tied as it could have been 24-24. Ill be so happy if they split FO and W this year.
