don’t think it’s even up for debate which season is more impressive.
Federer beat nadal on route to 3 of his titles (Aus, Indian wells, miami) strength of competition was much higher, 1 GS and 2 masters compared to a GS some 250 glorified warm up and a 500. Put on top of that Nadal is vulturing due to Djokovic being thrown out of top competitions left right and centre (Let them play europe clay swing please tennis gods)

Put 17 era Federer in 2022 he breezes past 2022 nadal, and it’s not even close.

Yes Fed 17 is better than Nadal 22 at HC.
But then Nadal's favorite tournaments are at clay. Whether Nadal can dominate clay season will decide whose season is better.

Federer 2017 was on a higher level. Nadal was better in 2017, as well. Nadal 2022 has been up and down in level from match to match.

What argument are you trying to settle? Has someone (I haven't ignored) here put forward the notion that Nadal's '22 start is better than Federer's '17?

Haha.. of course. And Nadal will need to win the FO and one of the USO and Wimbledon to better that.
If he wins the FO he has a good chance of ending the year with 3 slams

I mean winning both wimb and USO is an almost impossible task for him. If he wins the RG, then he has decent chance of winning one of the other 2 and finishing the year at 3.
Ofcourse he will not be the favorite in either, but then he was far from the favorite in AO.

We should all run in fear of the skinny Serbian that drinks the toxic water which has been purified by his positive energy and rubs bread on his stomach while he hums inside a couple of dirt piles that his government is trying desperately to turn into a tourist attraction by falsely labelling them as man made pyramids that bestow magical energy to those who believe in them...

You still haven't explained why winning RG makes him a decent chance of winning Wimbledon (lol) or USO?

What does it have to do with anything?

Agreed and it’s not surprising. Fed has always won by thoroughly outclassing his opponents. While Nadal often wins by persevering against his opponents. This fundamental difference is what makes them both so interesting to watch.

Well it will give him confidence, ranking points, possibly higher seeding.
He is already in good form at HC. So these added points should give him a decent chance.

To be fair, if the season started with Clay...the start of the season favors Federer. The other issue was Federer spaced the matches out better.

2017 Ol’ Rog played at a higher level than 2022 RAFA has so far, but he also skipped the entire CC season. It’s too early to say that 2017 Ol’ Rog had the better year.

We also have to keep in mind that RAFA broke through at 18-19 while Ol’ Rog broke through at 21-22. RAFA has even moar miles in his body at a similar stage in their careers.

Well no it's about who had the better season.

So far Rog is winning by a fair length me thinks.

Rafa has also done this without Djok or Fed playing. That's another black mark imo.

I agree. If you see my earlier posts, I agreed that Fed 17 was a better hard court season than Nadal 22.
For Nadal to have a better year than fed 17 he needs to end with 3 slams.

To be fair if it started with Grass people would expect more of Federer. Still grass specialist tend to do slightly better on hard courts. Start of the year is start of the year. Fed had a better start in 2017. I think Nadal pushed himself a little too hard, but it was close. He almost made his ideal goal. Pretty good start of the season regardless. It would be interesting to see how things would've gone without the draw issues.
