Federer fans seem to appreciate lots of different attacking players

One thing that we cannot fail to notice in TT in most threads is that Fed fans seem to be appreciative of fast, attacking tennis exhibited by any opponent and not just Fed.

Fed fans are effusive in their praise of Delpo, Tsonga, Novak , Davydenko, Dmitrov , Wawrinka, Soderling, Safin, Nalbandian and they always are very appreciative of their success. They just dont limit themselves to Federer alone.

Kudos to Fed fans ! Just like their idol, they recognize and value 'Good, Clean Tennis'.

Thoughts ?

Thank you very much for your praise :)

There is the odd one out who takes being a fan too far, but generally it's a really nice and down-to-earth fanbase.

Thanks, man! I appreciate this :)

My guess is that fans who support Federer generally prefer attacking/power tennis, so I agree with your presumption.

Of course. I value creativity, aggression and making it look easy the most. So, all players who do this are great for me. Yeah, your observation seems correct.

I do like all those players you mentioned :).

1.Creativity, 2.Agression, 3.Making it look easy.
The BIG three.

The only attacking player they don't like is Berdych, maybe because Berdych is a fan of Nadal ?

Don't generalize, I love Berdych's tennis. His forehand and backhand are smooth as butter and when he is on, it is beautiful.

This thread is totally true; I just love players who blast amazing winners and try unbelievable, offensive shots.

My 10 favourite players to watch are:

1.Federer
2.Djokovic
3.Berdych
4.Tsonga
5.Dimitrov
6.Wawrinka
7.Del Potro
8.Dolgopolov
9.Tomic
10.Monfils

So most of my list is full of attacking players. If you count all time then, Safin, Nalbandian, Roddick and Soderling would be near the top after Roger.

I have always liked attacking players and it is nice that they are found throughout history;Sampras, Edberg, McEnroe, Becker, Lendl...etc. and are still abundant in this day and age.

It's because Federer hasn't beaten Berdych at Slams since 2009.

I don't get the idea that fed fans hate Sampras. I loved the guy when he was playing. Loved Agassi too. I enjoyed the variety we saw back then.

As for the OP, absolutely. Give me attacking, offensive shotmaking any day. Now, when that's paired with a more defensive or countering player it can be dynamite to watch, assuming the surface is at least a medium speed. I think that's why Fed/Nadal (until 2009) and Fed/Djokovic have offered such great tennis over the years, just like Pete/Andre did 15 years ago.

Pretty much agree with everything - and since Sampras & Henman were my favourite top players before Fed, this makes quite sense. But why the hell did you add Nalbandian and Davydenko as "fast, attacking tennis players"??
I mean they are good for some winners but other than that?

:? :? :?

The only ones I disrespect are certain butthurt 'FANS' of Sampras, who make a living out of denigrating Federer because they cannot accept that Sampras' records got broken so quickly.

It wasn't that quick and one remains that will probably never be broken. When you use words like "butthurt" you are only inciting further flaming. This doesn't really portray you in a positive light when you're complaining about the behavior of others.

The 6 year end No. 1 in a row?.... I don't think it will be broken in a damn long time, but I wouldn't say never...(I am assuming it's this record)

Nalbandian attacked as much as any recent top player.

Within 10 years of time, whereas back then, people believed Sampras' records were to stay forever (yes they did). I call that pretty quick.
Don't get me wrong btw - I have the utmost respect for Sampras and his achievements.

At times it's the only appropriate term and I'm surely not the only one to have used it.
You are free to report it btw. No hard feelings. :)

Interesting theory. I have long felt that many Nadal fans around here don't really like tennis. They just like Nadal. Weird.

Responding to childishness is the only appropriate response to childishness excused by the fact of its prevalence? Okay..

I think fed fans liked to Team up with all Players fans against nadal. fed fans often tried to make it fed+novak vs nadal although their relationship cooled off after this years Wimbledon final when some fed fans disrespected Novak by pointing out that Novak only (barely) beat a well past prime fed and would have lost badly like 4-5 years ago.

No Federer fan can genuinely like Djokovic. He's a grinder with no serve, net game or flair that Federer possesses. As far as Nadal goes, he'll never reach 18, so Fed's records are safe ;)

maybe not but they liked djokovic protecting feds record by beating nadal in several slam finals.

Novak fans on the other Hand seemed to have a "non Aggression pact" towards fed because the main rival was nadal.

that changed a Little bit after the 2014 Wimbledon (partly because nadal was a non factor at W) but I think it is still prevalent.

I'd say your pretty accurate when it comes to many of the Nadal fans on this board.

I have a lot of teammates that love Nadal though. They like him because he has the "fighter" image or because he plays lefty like they do.

fedephants be crazy!

idk how Federer and Nole are considred 'attacking players' (even Davydenko and Tomic according to some of you  ) when they are nearly pure baseliners with great defense and heavy spin???

sounds like the same formula Nadal uses...

Now purely attacking players from the ground are those like Agassi, Safin, Berdych, Delpo, and perhaps Soderling on his best day.

these are players who could not rely as much on defense (or net play) so they had to take it to their opponents in order to be succesful. they hit big and relatively flat on most of their shots. this can not be said for Federer or Nole...

Well, power is not everything. Aggression is also coming to the net more, hitting ball early, returning from closer. And that is not the only factor for me. It's also fluidity, making it look easy.

Hey, I like to watch defenders too and grinders from time to time. I just prefer others. I mean watching Rafa is still fun, because his style wins a lot.

But, if grinders don't win, it's not fun for me. But I can watch Fed or Sampras even in practice or vs lower guys and even if they lose.

But that is fun, that we like different things. Nadal fans probably like Borg more and Hewitt and larger rallies and point construction.

As a Federer fan I agree.

Personally like Tsonga, Delpo, Stan, Soderling :(, Cilic, Dimitrov, Raonic, djokovic.

dislike: Nadal, Murray, djokovic, Berdych.

Djokovic ****es me off when he plays passive counterpunching.

will go back later and assess just how redundant this post is. but yeah, i'd say that's a good bet to put money on. when federer first came on tour, yes, he was aesthetically fun to watch; really, though, it was the fact that the guy was ripping winners from all over the place like i'd never seen before, and sprinkling in some insane circus shots along the way. he just generated a lot of ooh-and-aah-worthy stuff out there.

action, i guess you could call it. and by the way, i personally appreciate the grinders—and to head off any nadal discussion, i consider him to be a lot more than a grinder, he's the complete package that happens to major in a certain thing.

Novak attacking skills are overrated, he is a pusher quite often, not in the level of tsonga or delpo ballbashing..

Well there are other types of aggression often overlooked. Like standing closer to the baseline. Nole does that. Also his ball is very heavy and deep. Then consistency is also a form of aggression. Then he is aggressive on the return.

Also, vs top guys they make you less aggressive since they are so good.

Fed is amazing, it's hard to be aggressive vs him. While Nole seems a lot more aggressive vs lower guys.

This is true for some of them. Some really appreciate and enjoy Novak's magnificent game and skill and admit he is true current leader and worthy and deserving new king.
However there is the other side that makes everything about Fed and Fed only and is incapable of watching or saying anything nice about any other tennis player. Most of them think Fed alone is bigger than the game of tennis and any other player game is boring and not worthy of their attention, which is of course totally ridiculous.
