This Eagle is losing altitude

Will he ever be top 3 again?

Is he playing clay to cling on to a top 10 ranking?

Disgust/ discuss!

I always laugh at that gif

I know you have a fundamental dislike for Federer fans, but what do you think of Federer the last six months? Is he done - for good this time?
How can I know?
Many things can happen. Maybe some luck and other players getting injuries.
But if the tour continues like now, I think he is done yes.

He had the opportunity to retire at #1 a year ago. Strange to think about that now...

Like the Dwarves of Moria, he dug too deep. I'm afraid the end won't be pretty.

He could easily lose points in IW, but make that up playing Miami and clay season. There's a pretty good gap (800 pts or so) between Thiem and Isner at 8th and 9th place. Both have some points that will be tough to defend. Thiem has a Madrid final, Lyon title, and FO final. Isner has a Miami title and Wimbledon SF. Of course Tsitsipas and Khachanov could make noise, but neither look like a threat at the moment to make a big move up the rankings. Cilic is battling a knee injury. I think he may be ok until the UO unless he falls off really badly or someone below him has some unbelievable results.

And he is not going down in style either. He has chosen this way, in sweaty uniqlo and grunting. he who always hated grunting. Grumpy too.
He shows his true character again like he was. People never change.
Think about our great athletes, Svindal and Bjørgen. What a class the way they did it. Its tragic to watch Fed going down this way.

Why did you delete the sincere part?

:-D

^^^ Yes. And Federer recently intimated that Dubai is one of his big goals this season that he's very motivated for. This could either mean that he has found the key to success – namely to lower your expectations – or that cognitive decline has set in and he doesn't really remember the tournaments further down the calendar.

Where is "None" option? With all the youngsters choking, including Zverev i can't see Federer pulling out of top-10 unti lthe end of this year with having almost literally nothing to defend until the end of the year and with potential points gathering from clay series participation! LOL

The old man is perfectly healthy mentally.

Just as AO, RG, Wimby, USO is the slow court CYGS, Dubai, Halle, Cincy, and Basel is the fast court CYGS. Perfectly reasonable to schedule around the latter due to its higher purity. Also, you can win a slow court event any time, just show up to your local neighborhood Masters tournament . Fast courts? Just 4 left!

I think once the molasses court epidemic ends, Fedr's numerous titles at those 4 places will give him the last laugh in the GOAT debate. 4D chess my friends.

It will depend a lot on other players as well.

I have a hard time seeing Federer drop below the 3000 point mark where the top 10 bubble is now. If guys like Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Khachanov and Cilic gain points and get toward 3500 I can see Fed get below that.

I don't believe Federer will gain many points by playing 2 clay tournies at all.

I also don't think he'll drop out the top 10 before the fall season. He had a lot of relatively easy points there.

I welcome your optimism. But in 2016 his ranking dropped because of surgery and absence.

Now it's because he is playing poorly and losing points :(
Maybe, but many of the matches he lost past 1.5 years were mental lapses from winning positions :p:p:p AO, Wimbledon notably :oops: A handful of points - let’s call it 20 points total - were the difference in the outcome of IW, Halle and Paris ;) Why stick a fork in someone that has a long history of winning :unsure::unsure:

An important note is that if Federer drops out of the top 8 there's a significant chance he has to play an extra round in 6/9 M1000 tournaments. That's gonna do him absolutely no favours.

Federer won’t drop out of the top 10. I see him in the 8-9 range before the clay season comes around. I think that he’ll end the year either 5th of 6th.

Pretty much this! LOL For him to drop out of top-10 before the end of this year at least 5 or 6 players have all to have an enormous breakthrough with Federer having virtually nothing to defend until the end of the year! (Well...almost nothing...) And yes, when i say "nothing to defend" i mean it for HIS skyhigh standards...

Don't care about the ranking to be honest. Fed's play recently isn't good enough to start thinking about good draws for titles.

Also this thread title is misleading. Fed is guaranteed top 8 despite not defending Rotterdam this week.

What i'm not seeing however at this point is Roger qualifying for ATP finals this year if he keeps going at the same rate he is going right now...

I forgot the question mark in the title...

The point was when do you think it happens? It can happen pretty quickly.

Federer is not a lock for anything at this point.

I’m sure Roger was. Losing to a guy who’s never won a single tournament in his career isn’t usually indicative of good form.
Perhaps it’s me lowering my expectations, but that loss didn’t feel as bad as ones last year felt. Tsitsipas was playing great and apart from the break point conversion, Roger didn’t look bad
