I can definitely see him taking a set if he gets into a rhythm on serve. He’s explosive enough that Nadal can’t afford lapses on serve like he’s been doing.

The issue for Foe is that once Nadal locks onto that backhand as he always does with those heat seeking topspin forehands, there will only be one winner. This will look like the Berrettini match at AO 22.

Tiafoe is for sure the dumbest personality on tour, he makes Kyrgios look mature :-D
Just look at their prior meetings, and you see Tiafoe is like a club player when compared to Nadal.

If these next-journeygen players want to save tennis they should all just go away and let the actual talent play until they are in their 50s. This statement by him is massive cringe as nothing about his career justifies that talk and even what he said reeks of thoughts and prayers style logic talking about 36 year old Nadal like he's some unstoppable machine. He's not, the tour is just devoid of any decent players and that's why he and Novak are still dominating.

I'm predicting a straight sets loss for him, might stretch to a TB in one of the sets at most. Unless Nadal is "injured" ofcourse.

Has he fully recovered from his injuries, in your estimation?

Tiafoe is a good player and known to make super confident remarks. It is a good attitude and he definitely is capable of beating this version of Rafa.

But will Tiafoe be good enough to take a set from this version of Nadal? No.
This version of Nadal is on another level to anything Tiaofe has ever been :-D
He was exhausted after just ONE set vs. Diego, and only won because Diego is no longer top 10 material.

what is he supposed to say? "yeah I will definitely lose but I'll try anyway"

Be a bit more humble, don't be overconfident and promote yourself without promoting your opponent. His comments like "I need to match his intensity" and "I'm going to come after him" he talks like Nadal already has the advantage and then still suggests he can beat him when nothing in his career or previous matches with Nadal suggests that.

I get that you've gotta say something and news articles always take everything that is quotable but for me he should be saying stuff like "I'm in great shape, I'm feeling good and getting a good feel for the court, I'm ready for the match against Nadal" Y'know? Something that doesn't make you sound like you know your opponent is better yet still sound arrogant enough to think you can win.

He is proper headcase and previously he has given statements worshipping Big3 that indicated he doesn't believe in himself. His chances are close to zero. I can see him losing despite being better player on the day..

Sinner/Alcaraz have better chance..

Tiafoe can be the better player on the day? :-D
He lacks the skills, lacks the stamina and lacks the IQ.

Yes.. Tiafoe does struggle to maintain his level across sets. Hopefully he will fold easily vs Rafa.

Tiafoe has the weapons and belief to do it, however he appears to be unfocused at times wich might prove fatal against Nadal. However Nadal has been looking terrible from the few bits and scores I've seen so far so that is where the chance lies in the first place.

Crowd will be buzzing for Franceees

That’s wishful thinking. We all know Rafa is winning this us open with ease.

If tiafoe gonna beat nadal then he's got to be prepared for 5 set rollercaster epic, meaning he will need huge balls not to bottle it in the 5th and serve it out. That is the only way to victory vs nadal. And I don't see tiafor having the mental strength personally

Tiafoe has a good backhand. I don’t see why you would manufacture this narrative.

Frances is one of those guys who walks around, much like Coco Vandeweghe used to, like he has won multiple Grand Slams. This guy has ONE career title !! Nadal has more Grand Slam titles in 2022 than Frances has career titles.

Didn't Tiafoe take Federer to the 5th set at the 2017 USO and still LOST?

It’s an OK shot. I wouldn’t call it good though, he struggles with open stance running BHs and has much better footwork into his FH. Plus it’s a right hand dominant BH similar to Norrie’s in the sense that he doesn’t impart much spin on the ball and doesn’t get consistent depth to push Nadal back with it.

Like I said it is an OK test for the 4th round. He can certainly beat Nadal if Rafa is totally off his game, but as long as Nadal is somewhat close to normal he will win.

If you watch his hand positioning it’s left hand dominant. His right hand is almost off of the handle so he gets no leverage from that hand. That is how Nadal hits his backhand, very weak hand dominant.

it’s a good flat shot and gets good depth. It’s his forehand that is a little awkward and can break down at time.
