Actually came across Sydney from her ad/testimonial for EcoGrip. I wondered who this "very competitive player (from) The Lone Star State" might be. From there, I discovered that she is currently a collegiate player on the Texas Tech team. They'll always be somebody's "kids". You one of their coaches or stringers? In the past, players from Stanford, UCLA and other colleges or universities have been featured. Nothing provocative, mind you. Doesn't Texas Tech deserve some recognition?

I am the stringer for the team. I first met Sidney when she was 16 I think doing a visit. Super sweet kid. I guess Tech can get some recognition, but I cant participate. That would be creepy. And she uses Wilson Pro overgrips by the way.

You guys probably already know this, but Naomi has moved on and is now a Stewardess for Emirates Air. She does google herself every once in a while to see if people are still posting about her. Last I spoke to her was new years. She is happy and doing great.

Wilson Pro now? Perhaps Sydney's ecoGRIP testimonial on their web site is a year or 2 old or more.

Thanks for the info. Did not know that. Assumed that she was still active on the tour. Have not really been following her on ITF or social media sites. Did someone already post that news on this forum? Did a google search and discovered that someone did announce the news on that "other" tennis forum site. Some unkind & rude replies to that MTF thread announcement. Thought that (some on) TT were bad. But YouTube and MTF can put TT to shame in that respect. It's a pity that some feel a need be so negative or downright nasty.

Just took a look at Naomi's instagram page & noticed the following:
I used to travel to get paid — Now I get paid to travel ✈️

Noticed that, at the peak of her WTA/ITF ranking, Naomi was just inside the top 400 for both singles and doubles 3 years back. Not easy for a touring tennis player outside the top 200 to make ends meet. With lodging/travel expenses, it might be worse than that. That's a shame. Compare this to the #400 guy playing pro basketball, baseball, American football, orfubol/soccer. Fairly well off. Possibly even a millionaire. On top of that, their team is paying for a lot of the lodging & travel expenses. Would be great to see a bigger piece of pie (million $ prize money) going to those who aren't finalists in pro tournaments.

First became aware of Naomi's tennis skills when IMG's Pat D, The Serve Doctor, posted Naomi's "Sick Kick" on YT in 2011. This serve video, as well as quite a few other serve videos from The Serve Doctor, have been posted in the Tips/Instruction forum quite a few times. Totka's serve in that video was more of a vicious top-slice (heavy on the wicked slice) rather than an actual kick serve. Sharply angled (short) out wide on the Deuce side -- not an easy serve on that side for a lefty server. I was suitably impressed with her serving skills at that age.

We have 3 empty rooms, so we put several up when they come to the pro tournament we host. We have had the rooms full plus some sleeping in the living room. As players lose and leave, others move in. Some we never hear from again, but we have stayed in touch with several over the years.
