Has anyone tried a 1hbh and can't go back to a 2hbh???

I have. My 2hbh was my most stable shot. But at a lesson one day, my coach asked what I wanted to work on, and I wanted to learn a one hander. Just for the hell of it, I guess. Anyway, he said it looked really good, and I hit it decently for a first go around. But I can't hit one after another with it. It's been about six weeks. I tried hitting 2hbh the other day. IT IS GONE!! I had to think about bringing both hands together, because it felt totally unnatural to me.

Has anyone else done this? Did you work your way back into a 2hbh until it worked for you again? Or just stick with a 1hbh.

I wouldn't mind sticking with a one hander, IF I could hit down the line. Cross court placement is not so much a problem, but dtl I find very difficult.

Tips please.

I had the same problem. I switched two years ago to the one hander and planned to go back to the two hander last year for the return of serve on hard serves, but I just couldn't get the technique down. I've practiced it and it took a while to come back, but now I use the two hander and one hander in different situations. As long as you use them both equally, you shouldn't lose the technique on either one, but once you stick with one for a while, the other seems unnatural at first.

Same happened to me. I played as a 2h all my junior years even in nationals. Then i switched to a 1hbh 3 years ago and now can't go back to a 2h. It feels wierd and women like....

LOL!! I never thought of it quite like that.

One handers feel better to me because it seems way more natural. Just like a forehand. The two hander is more consistent for me though. But I think that will change in time.

I recently started playing tennis, so I don't have Years of 1h or 2h backhands behind me. But, for a year and a half, I've been using two hands. I switched to a one hand bh to see whether it was better. I've used it for 3 months?? It was great, but when I started playing league matches for my High School team, I felt my one hand wasn't as trust worthy. So I decided to bring back to the two hand. It was hard at first ( i really couldn't switch back ), but after a day or two of playing lefty tennis, it was significantly better. So.. I guess playing lefty tennis helped out my two hand... Not sure if it'll work for you.. But then again, not like those of you who've used the one hand for 3 years, I've only used it for 3 months, so i guess it was easier for me to bring it back.

Wow. I started fiddling with a 1hbh and if anything, my 2hbh has gotten better. I incorporated some aspects of the 1hbh like getting under the ball more and hitting earlier. The 1hbh is usable under certain situations. Otherwise it's my topspin-happy 2hbh or the occasional slice.

Why the hell would you want to go back to a 2hbh? A 2hbh is for females, not real men. Be a man and stick to the 1 hander. Wait a second, you are a man, aren't you?

I want to see you go say that to Safin:p Or Nadal, or Nabaldian. You probably drive a lifted truck that gets around 5 miles to the gallon, unless I miss my guess. You probably also have figured out some way to convince yourself Football, Basketball, and Baseball are women sports(because you can't play them) and Tennis is a real mans sport.

I started with 2hbh when I was a kid. Has been switched to 1hbh for more than 20yrs, and now I am not even can time and approach the ball right to hit 2hbh.

The 2hbh used to be my most dependable shot for the past several years. Then I switched to a 1hbh 5 months ago and today I was hitting against the wall and playing around with a 2hbh and I can't hit it at all. I can't get any power on the shot anymore, its very awkward and feels too restrictive. I still think its a good shot to have, as it was a good shot for me in the past, but going from a 1hbh to 2hbh is much more difficult than going from 2 to 1.

The same thing happens when you change wives or girlfriends. Going back is extremely difficult and you will suffer miserably ...as you should.

haha. I also want to switch to a 1HB because there seems to be more potential with it. Although it's difficult,..I'm planning to switch. Thoughts?

I did the reverse, 1 to 2. I think the 2H is much easier to learn, quite honestly, because less can go wrong. Timing, is super, super, super critical on the 1H. If you don't agree, just count who shanks more balls in the next 1H vs 2H match you watch. I would bet my house it's the 1H.

The only reason I've been trying to add in a 1hbh is because in the past 11 years, I've gained 50 lbs (from 120 to 170), so I feel I might be strong enough to flirt with it.

It takes much much longer to get good with a 1hbh than a 2hbh. The first time I used 2h it was a natural feeling. 2hbh is easier for me to control, apply flat or spin shots, and is a devastating offensive weapon.

The 1hbh and 2hbh are so different. A 2hbh is really the 1hfh's sister, while 1hbh is the 2hbh's distant cousin. If you do them right, you get nice results. But once you give yourself to either backhand, it's hard to go to the other.

Not since the accident....

Seriously, some of the best in the world use a two hander. I think you owe Agassi and Safin an apology.:D

Come on, man, not true. That silly looking Safin backhand would look so much better one handed. A 6'4 man just shouldn't be using a 2 hander.

Great question

I switced around 15 or 16 because for some reason I could never develop a good feel for my 2 hander. In retrospect, this might have been because I was using a lighter weight racket...anyway

At time I have been frustrated with my 1H, due to school I dont play as regularly as I used to, so of course my technique goes out the window.

Every time I have tried to go back, I only last for about a day, and then I am back to hitting the one-hander.

It is a tough decision though, it took me almost a year to really feel comfortable with my one hander when I switched, so if you do decide to switch...just be patient, because it can be difficult initially....

Safin is the best player, regardless of whether he chooses to drive backhand with one or two hands, please leave him out of this dispute.

I started out as a 2hander. But I was very inconsistent and just couldnt really control the shot. I think if I had better footwork, I would have done better with it. My buddy suggested I switch to a 1hander cuz he says there is a little more preparation time to get it right, and you have to have good footwork. I knew footwork was a big problem for me, so I switched to 1hbh, and I felt it forced me to get better with my footwork and anticipation. It also felt much more natural to me than a 2hbh. Now my backhand side is much more reliable and perhaps more reliable than my forehand side. I tried switching back to a 2hbh, but things just didnt click. 1hbh is just more comfortable for me.
