For those who are wondering who is the hardcourt GOAT:

hardcourt slams won beating one of the three highest ranked opponents --> Djokovic 11 (12 if he wins this sunday) > Federer 5

Djokovic superior to Fedal on 2/3 surfaces:

hardcourt: Djokovic 11 > Federer 5
clay: Djokovic 1 > Federer 0

hardcourt: Djokovic 11 > Nadal 3
grass: Djokovic 5 > Nadal 2

Another tough Slam for Novak, he needs to beat the third highest opponent on sunday.
I hope you also think of USO19 as a tough draw for Rafa, especially considering he didn't have a Q as his SF opponent ...

Djokovic faced one of the 3 highest ranked opponents in EVERY Slam he reached the final in o_O

Djokovic 28/28 (100%)
Nadal 23/28 (82.1%)
Federer 21/31 (67.7%)

19 AO final Nadal, 18 USO final Delpo and legendary beast AO/RG final Muzz much tougher than 17 AO final Nadal, 09 RG semi Delpo, 06 USO Blake, 03 Wimby semi and 09 Wimby final Roddick. The rankings told me so, no?
Perfect.

These are the highest ranked players they beat to win each Slam, excluding themselves from the ranking, so they're not somehow penalized for having a high position:

FEDERER

no.1 x 5
no.2 x 3
no.3 x 2
no.4 x 4
no.5 x 6

geometric mean: 2.65

NADAL

no.1 x 11
no.2 x 3
no.3 x 2
no.4
no.5
no.6
no.27

geometric mean: 1.86

DJOKOVIC

no.1 x 10
no.2 x 4
no.3 x 3

geometric mean: 1.43
Medvedev: 1.0

OP updated.

Djokovic still at 0 slams won without beating top3 opponents, to Nadal's 4 and Federer's 10.

What the stats say is that if Federer had to beat one of the top 3 (usually including Djokovic and Nadal), his chances of winning were not great. No wonder he won his last 3 in '17-18, when one of them was taken out of commission!

What Federer went thru the 10's, Medvedev and Thiem are going thru right now! To win the title, first and foremost Djokovic has to be dealt with, and their chances of beating him H2H are not good!

Slams won beating one of the three highest ranked opponents:

Djokovic 19
Nadal 16
Federer 10

Another brutal path to a Slam title for Novak: beating #3, #5 and #9.

It shows that, when Nole won, generally the field held up, and he had to beat the best of the field.

It also shows that, when Roger won, half of the time the field didn't hold up, and he didn't have to beat the best of the field.

Nadal's also seems impressive, until you consider that it didn't really matter whether the field held up or not at RG, he just went ahead and won 13 times.
