So after Djokovic won against Monfils in order to win the whole tournament, I was asking myself this question.

Match points are nothing to Djokovic. He likes the pressure and he likes to troll his opponent.

What are your thoughts?

I don't think it's a "match points" thing as much of it's a Djokovic plays every single point really well thing. Sure you have MP, Djokovic is still going to hit a great return and make you earn it. He approaches it like any other point. A lot of players face MP and get scared to hit their shots or hit a UE.

It was just one of Guru's many lessons to his ATP pals.

Having a a match point against Djokovic doesn't mean you're likely to beat him!

Best way to handle them is probably to serve an ace. ;)

Depends who you are. If you are Monfils who just stands in one spot in the back of the court on a match point, than infinity.

They're not really choking dogs,Djokovic makes them look like that.

Are you sure? Except for Federer, are those players really mental giants made into midgets by Djokovic?

In Serena's case you could argue that(Venus, Henin, Sharapova...), but here I don't know.

I don't know I always have a feeling that Djokovic is more focused in those moments and that's why he wins in the end,not bc this opponents are mugs or something.

People recently have been making the mistake of getting matchpoints on their own serves. Djokovic likes to save those.

Make Djokovic face matchpoints in his own service game. There was a time where he would promptly hit a double fault.

Of course he is more focused, but also most of these players are notorious for being weak mentally.

If the mp against you is on your opponent's serve, really they are odds on to win. That alone must take some of the pressure off, I imagine. The headlines plus the general perspective of yourself and others will be far more favourable to you if you lose from this position than to your opponent should they lose. I doubt this hypothetical disparity would be nearly as broad if you were serving.

Statistically it's 1,5 match points.

The fact that he saved some and followed up with a win in c.a. 15 of over 1000 matches he played doesn't change "the big picture".

I think he approaches these points with even more focus. I remember when watching Nadal matches in 2011 or so, I kept getting nervous even when RAFA had match point b/c I knew what happened to Roger when he got a bit loose on match point.

He is lucky sometimes especially when the match point is when opponent is serving. Not even Djokovic is in control of that situation.

Shame he couldn't repeat when 40-15 last year at Wimbledon.
Agree, he hit two in a row leading up to match point. It must be that Djokovic got into his head after USO '10 and '11. What if he had tried to ace off the 2nd serve too as he was in a good serving rythm, that would have been interesting.

Djokovic can only save match points against top players.
Wait and see what happens when he is match point down against players ranked below ATP #200.
