It's a 500. Any match is somewhat tough, but it's also instant worth it for the rankings. These are the kinds of battle he'll have to get into on a weekly basis, and once he wins the majority of them, he'll skyrocket

2018: 12.2%, 7.4%, 5.1%, 9.4%, 11.9%, 8.9%, 20.0%. Average = 10.7%.

2017: 4.8%, 1.9%, 6.4%, 1.4%, 5.6%, 1.2%, 4.8%. Average = 3.73%.

Yips personified. Don't end up like Coria, man..

Judging by the rankings and distribution of points to defend, I'm liking Andrey's chances of making a leap by the summer. Top 20 by Wimby?

Beating Dzumhur – who's a couple of spots ahead of him – tomorrow would be a good start. Money leads the H2H 3–0 and should be favored, but he did drop a set against him both at the USO and Shanghai last year.

Dzumhur is the kind of guy Rublev loves. Small dude, small serve. Lot's of rallies and just clubbing away.

Stationary targets are easier to hit...with the exception of Zoom Zoom, who he will immobilize Thursday, the next four above him are now inactive. Then Kei is playing a 250 so point gain is possible there. Then three more inactive players before you get to 250'ers Mannarino and Schwartzman. Many spots to climb just this week with a decent run.

Yeah, add to that that Murray is gonna drop down by himself as his Dubai points will drop in a few weeks, and Wawrinka will come down below Rublev sooner rather than later as well.

Not a walk in the park today in the 4&6 win over Zhum Zhum. Serve doctor required...a drop in dublettes but at the expense of poor defense of less aggressive bombs (46 of 84 service points won on 65%/29% mix of first and second).

Gotta tinker some before a Grigorious matchup if it happens.

I've never been too confident when he's serving out a set/match anyway. Don't think things are gonna be much different anytime soon unfortunately.

He definitely could have won even in straights today. Thiem hasn't been back to his best yet; BH was a big liability (despite winning some tasty winners due to Rublev's predictability) and movement was still quite suspect. and that brave play on big points of his is always great to watch. In fact that's mainly what I like about him, even when he fails miserably.

But overall Thiem was still the better player and deserved the hard-fought win today (while suddenly looking sexi as a black panther to boot lol). Even he made Ruby look more one-dimensional than he already is. He was serving and hitting almost everything to the backhand to the point Thiem was reading his serve/shot like a children book. Only he couldn't run around his BH on everything, plus I doubt very much his ankle has fully recovered.

All in all a good quality match with a dramatic decider. Good thing for Rublev fans is he won the gruelling, taxing ~9 minute game in the decider today, something Thiem himself is actually quite good at; and that he did play 2 really good, tough volleys despite his still almost non-existent net game and embarrassing, terrible approach shot.

Their exchange at the net was nice to watch too.

After pulling out of Barcelona and München, Money is also nowhere to be found in Madrid.

Why, you ask? Back problems!!

Not the most usual affliction for a youngster, and not fun to hear. Hope he finds health so that he can denadalize the draw in Paris (lord willing). Till then, the tennis scene feels somewhat impoverished.
