Who will take him out?
My guess: Nobody.

The Establishment tried its best last year in the QF, but could not obstruct the Light of Lausanne's path and was kicked to the curb:

Then the mighty Rafa, Barcelona's True Bull, tried his best:

No?

Even the #BeastOfBasel himself could not offer hindrance:

So Fed, Rafa, and The Establishment have all failed.
Who is left?
Will even The Ninja be overcome by The Light?

Max SF. Not further IMO.

You don't think he has any chance of taking Novak out?

I mean it's not a sure thing, but I think he would have a good chance (partially because the court is faster this year too).

Of course he has a chance, especially here at AO. But this is Novaks fav and best tournament and I don't give any high chance to stan of beating him b2b here.

I approve of this message, and if I hadn't already sworn my allegiance to Maverick Murray, then I would indeed Stand By The Man, Stan.

Stanislas has the highest peak-level in current tennis. When he unleashes the weight of his shots, then all others crumble. The question is whether he will be able to sufficiently show this level during this whole tournament.

Good post.

Peak Stan is the bar that others are yet to prove they can clear.

Any of these top players at their peak can win. But I'm not inspired with confidence when Waw barely squeaks through TBs against a qualifier.

I want to see how they all do at least through the next two rounds.

Novak has looked most dominant so far, but for him too it is too early to tell.

I think djokovic did a great job of beating absolute peak stan in AO 2013?

Does Stan have the highest level of play of all, ''best'' peak?

I think thats a ludicrous statement.

I watched yesterday in a few minutes 3 BH DTL from the fat swiss. Even if I am not convinced of his chances to win this AO, with that stroke he definitely has a chance here, if the back floats, the rest can be put aside.... let's see

If Stan cannot serve the ball in the 130's he cannot win. His elbow is a huge concern in my mind and if it does not get better, Stan will not beat any of the top guys. I feel badly for him because when he is on and healthy, he can give any of the top guys a great match.

I do agree that Stan played at an amazing level during his loss to Novak in 2013, probably even better than in their 2014 match. His BH was absolutely unreal on that day.

But lest we forget, he got jobbed of a match point when the ump told him not to challenge a ball. Replays showed Joker's ball was out and that would have given Stan a match point (forgot on whose serve). So it's not like Djokovic handled him easily; the whole match was decided by inches.

Fair point and added to that, different slam but still on hard court in 2013 Stan took Novak to 5 sets in the US Open Semi final as well.

Would not be bad if Stan won again. At least some of the Rafa clown fans would not look at him as a fluke.

True. Novak did beat a strong Stanimal twice at slams in 2013, fair and square. But Stan was the better player both times, but he did not have the necessary mental fortitude. At AO 2014 the real Stan ascended, and right now his peak level > fedalovic.

Everyone who didnt think Stan could repeat wasnt being fair. He shows up for this tournament and everyone (including stan and Nole) are sick of them meeting before the semis for the match of the tournament. Hope it happens. My pick is Stan or Murray for the title.... but those are my two favorite pro players at the moment.

Watching Stan play right now I'd say that he easily has the best backhand in tennis right now, one handed or two.

If Djokovic continues to step up into the court and hit the ball flat Stan is not beating him. If he starts pushing Stan will beat him. Djokovic has the child motivation this year. Those kinda things help him.

Nishikori, with ease!

Wawrinka is not even top 10 material anymore.

He is a one slam wonder!

So that's why he also nearly beat Novak in 2013 (and would have easily cleaned up the rest of the draw after him), and also hasn't dropped a set yet this year?

Djoko better be scared, because Wawrinka is too good for him at the AO. ;)

They won't meet, Dr. No will take care of that!

Good photoshop, if that's your work. I mean it. :)

Anyway, Stan can take Kei at the AO.
He is better here than he is at the USO.

Not happy about them being drawn together though.
Reeks of trying to protect Djokovic.

These courts are taylor-made for Stan. Esp. with fast courts in 2013 and even faster in 2014 and 2015.

Definitely hoping it works out that way.
If they were really trying to protect Novak, they'd put Stan in the other half. :)

The faster it gets, the easier it has got for Stan.
All true.

False alarm about his elbow...serving 130mph and cracking that top-shelf shbh. Looks like GGL is up next so he'll be fresh for the QFs.

Stan was absolutely unstoppable today. I normally wouldn't say this, but I think Stan playing like this is possibly the best a tennis player can realistically play. I mean, his normal rally shot is like 3x as heavy as someone else's, and then he easily changes that up with an even harder shot for a winner. If he's in the zone, he can do anything he wants and beat anyone.

Stan can make the final if he plays well IMO.

But he'll need to maintain the level.
