I have a sneaking suspicion that big hitters in good form will be formidable opponents for this super player in the foreseeable future

I stand by my comment that once her opponents find out about her tactics she will have quite the troubles. Kerber instinctively (or not) did find such solution by moonballing her back successfully at times, and others will do it too. Her trainer summed up pretty well what she is trying to do, so I expect the tactic of throwing moonballs to illicit a weak response to get weaker and weaker as the time progresses, and then we will see about that great movement of hers (another reason for laughing from yesterday).

They won't be able to adjust, because she has so much variety in her game, she has more ability to adjust than they do.

She didn't win on moonballs, but on a combination of power and touch and spin.

Yeah because she's quit when behind before and that's been a repeated pattern. Like when she was a set and 5-1 down to Begu earlier in the tournament.

Is it really hard to believe that some players have legit injuries? Did Serena get this "she's faking because she's scared of losing" crap thrown at her when she withdrew earlier in IW and Miami.

Personally thought after IW she was looking pretty beat up. Impressed she fought through for 3 matches at Miami.

It strained Kerber some, but Kerber saw that and several times moon balled her back, which tells me that as the time passes the top players will get used to those tactics and will have their own. Actually, in the instances where Kerber moon balled her back more often than not she won the point.

From what I saw Andreescu was using that tactic to get herself in position to pound the ball at first chance, so moon balling her back with precision or slicing her would prove to be an effective tactic in the future.

This is from my post today (the words of her coach in bold):

I didn't say any of that, and she was moving and hitting just fine in the first set and still got comprehensively owned by Kontaveit, but I won't press the conversation further.

For those that were yesterday laughing about my observations about her moonballing, I will quote her coach from today " So you throw the high ball, and then when you throw your high ball you want to get some depth, you want to push her back, ... and then try to use your forehand, try to get her on the move".

So, not only were my observations correct, but also the reason she does it (to be able to take the initiative after a weak response to the moonball) was correct, and also that it was an integral part of her strategy to "mix it up". Can't beat the feeling when the retaliation comes from the source itself.

I will take that over the words of the local experts.

I don't know. If true hitting the opponent with balls more than once after the rally was finished intentionally doesn't look like a particularly good way to prove class, but I wasn't there, and, like I said, don't intend to get too deep in the moving sands called WTA.

I did not see that, someone said that it was unintentional. Sounds like it was.
