Mikeler's Multis

I was on the TW playtest of PPC 16 (natural) and it played quite well. From my recollection it played the same as PPA. Its one of my favorites since it doesn't immediately turn into a rocket launcher after a short honeymoon period. Not quite as much control as Wilson NXT control or RIP, but more than regular NXT or X1 or NRG2.

Mikeler,
I just got some PPA 17....considering I have a MGPM 18/20 what's the best tension you would string it as crosses (I string poly full bed at 47 with rpm)and full bed?
I got also some head FXP..any tension suggestion here as crosses and full bed?

Thank you

I have never used 18x20s and don't use 17g multis much. Maybe try the multi cross strings 4 pounds higher than your full poly tension to start with.

I saw the new Wilson line of strings at the local shop today. Wilson Optimus is a strange looking string that is made for comfort. The also had an NXT Power. Since my multi playing days are on hiatus, I have no plans to test them out.

I 'm going to give some feedback on the head FXP 17 hybrid with RPM if someone might need it.

my freame is MGPM 18/20...usually play ful poly around 46
this time as mains RPM at 45 and as crosses FXP 48.

I don't play with hybrid string but I wanted to try this set up to see how it would work for me.
Stringing the croseses with FXP was just nice and easy.
The string comparing it to any poly ( that the only comparison I can make )did not stretch much while pulling it.
I played with this hybrid for about 5 hours and I notice first that the spin production is not eveident as with ful poly but it's there. I was actually able to hit more flat shots that with ful poly. Very nice control with a good power, if comparing it to a ful poly bed I would say it's more powerful that Typhoon.
So far there is not any string movement but I belive because of the 18/20 string pattern.
I also was especting a softer bed playing with hibryd but I did not see any difference then when I play with poly...maybe this FXP is a more stiff multi.
I'm saying stigf because after the first 2 hours I could definitely see the RPM notched pertty well

I tried every frame in my bag today but alas the problem was the Indian not the Arrow. I tried Origin for 2 games. The strings are jumbled all over the place, that will drive a lot of people here nuts.

Feel for Origin string bit disappointing

Ok, I got to try that Origin string 16 g. Perhaps it was because this was 16 G ? I am really used to using 17 G and 18 G multis. Feel on this string was disappointing, felt like Paper, kind of deadish feel. so I didnt' have precision accuracy with this string.

But surprisingly very powerful string. Power rating is up there with X-1 biphase. Spin was decent, nothing to brag about, but good for synthetic string, 7 out of 10. This string works well in Full bed and in Hybrid with Proline 2 and Alu power rough.

I am going to give another shot at this with 17 gauge and see if that one feels any different.

Wouldn't the ball be the arrow and the racquet be the bow? The responsibility still lies with the indian.

You are probably right. I felt like stabbing myself with an arrow after my match today but at least I got to play after 3 straight days of rain.

Nostradamus, it seems like now that someone has begged the question, you are having a hard time deflecting the label. My sympathy.

He will never admit it. Anyone out there going to try out Wilson Optimus?

Have you tried Origin as a hybrid in the Prince ESP 100T with a smooth poly?

Any thoughts on this?

I'm stringing up a Steam 99S with Poly/Origin this evening, but it looks like rain today and tomorrow, so it will likely be Sat before I can try it.

You must be able to find a less expensive cross string that will be able to do as good of a job.

are you referring to me? if so, the only options available for a Steam 99S that work are:

1) Full Poly
2) Gut / Poly (broke the 16g gut / poly in 8 sets)

Babolat Tonic 15L Gut has been the best gut / poly I've found.

I want to keep the Steam 99S, but I want my arm to like it also. Right now, I am limiting my Steam 99S to two days per week with full poly. After that, I use a Pro Open/Blade 98/ or Radical MP Graphene - all 16x19 frame all with hybrid string jobs.

I checked Tennis Point. They ain't known for the lowest prices in Europe, but at 20€ per set I guess it's better be excellent. FYI, they sell Origin at 20.5€ and X-1 at 21.5€. EDIT: Funny enough, the US price is much, much lower.

Yes, the price here is more reasonable.

I've got Origin in my Exos not the ESPs.

May want to try the 100T. It is very arm friendly.

Sorry, this reads like you planned to use Origin as a cross string.

I am am going to string two Wilson Steam 99S frames -

a) Yonex PPT 130 mains 52 lbs / Origin 16g crosses at 54 lbs

b) Origin Mains 54 lbs / Yonex PPT crosses 51 lbs

I like WC B5edge mains 55 lbs / X1 16 g 57 lbs in Pro Opens and Blade 98 - both 16x19 frames, but the 99S doesn't work with multi -

Origin is a monofilament - stringing up the first 99S this afternoon, but will compare to the full bed of YONEX PPT 130 before switching to option B

If I had three Steam 99S frames, I would compare all three setups at once -

I'm posting these nice results about the prince esp 100t racquet here, because the other topic seems dead:

tried our beloved Prince 100t with the cheap, anonymous prince tournament poly 16. A round string that I would never, never use on any of my frames :D . But I needed a round poly at 16 gauge for testing again the 100t, so I strung it at 26kg mains / 27kg crosses. I gave +1kg on crosses in order to reduce snap back and improve control, because with my usual setup (1kg more on mains) I got very random shots on the 100t with tour bite(it was 26/25kg).
It is STUNNING how that racquet can perform so well with cheap poly.
I got, to use mikeler words, INTOXICATING spin, power and control all at once. The ball bend heavily any time I use spin, and in my game all strokes are spinny ones ;) putting more tension on crosses did not affected spin at all, and I got all the control I need.
Beside ball bending, that is one of the funniest thing of tennis (having 10 times in a set the player leaving the ball going outside while in fact the ball drops on the line doesn't have any price ;D ), the most impressive behaviour is a high tension SOFT stringbed. It performs as a very high tension stringbed on backhand slices, dropshots and volleys, while it perform like a low tension stringbed on forehand and backhand, having the ball entering the racquet with a wonderful dwell time. It seems to give the best of the two worlds.
At serve I got some much power on flat serve and so much kick on the second one that I cannot believe to have served so good.
Okey, I have to say that I played with a lower level opponent. It is a friend of mine that never won a match with me in the last 3 years. But it is the perfect opponent to test the racquet aggressively. More tests will come with tougher opponents, but I have been impressed by spin and power without any loss of control, in ANY area of the court.
I could only advice to never try to hit a truly flat shot with this racquet ;) even the powerful winner has to be shotted with semiwestern, windshield wiper motion, to add spin to the ball.

Last comment: I think I'll never buy prince tournament poly, as it seems really cheap and it already started moving a little after 30minutes of play, with an horrid sound while putting back the strings (something like a "gnek gnek" sound), but this test encourage me to buy the mikeler loved discho iontec salmon 16
obvious to say, very comfort response even at so high tension.

This post would probably be much better in my polys thread but thanks for the feedback. :)

Well, read your review on Origin. So, how does it fares compared to MonogutZX?

They are very comparable. If you like a crisp feel, then Origin wins. For those who like the poly feel without the pain, Monogut wins. Both are expensive but unique.

As I (maybe) mentioned, I have a set of PPA17 somewhere to put in the cross with either MonogutZX or Origin in the mains mains in 16 or 17. I search to gain spin and power. Guess I'll go with whatever is cheaper when available.
which is more powerful ? Origin or excel ?
Haven't you tried both?

Mikeler, did you try the Solinco tour bite soft in 1,30 ?
If yes, how did it compare to the yptp 1,3 in comfort and durability ?
thanks again for the excellent thread. I´m slowly getting there replacing my rebel 98 with tour100 esp

that is incredible, mike. always felt excel was one of the more powerful multis out there. and yet something like Origin comes along with completely different construction and beats in power. Not sure if it is the material that is making it so powerful ?

I've said it before, the power is on a level with X1 and Monogut.

Mikeler, I would appreciate very much an assist here.

What is your highest rated most crisp multi?

I like the sounds of a string more than anything and believe I actually play better the louder the cracking sound.

I play with a Organix V1 MP so strings are muted from it too.

Thanks, perhaps it's not possible with a V1MP? I'm only on my first set of strings; Yonex 850 Pro.
