Nadal: “It is better not that you know how many injections I received during the tournament”

Grass has more short steps than the other surfaces, he will lunge more to the more skidding balls especially in the first week. Agassi has often stated that for clay, upper body work is more needed and for grass, it is more lower body. He will have to run a lot more to the net to pick up volleys, drop shots etc. He hasn't enjoyed the first week on grass historically in his career, and that was when he was much younger. If he is taking injections on top of that, you really have to ask how much is he asking of his body right now.

Frankly i still feel he can get through the first week. I hope he gives it a try for sure. It’s tough to swallow winning the first two legs of a slam and not playing the 3rd even at 36 with foot problems. I think nadal sees it like that.

Well, none of us know how much pain he is in though. We are just watching him do it time and time again and taking it as a given, which from the horse's mouth, it really isn't, with him throwing in shade of potential last matches happening. You can hope for sure, but don't bet the house on it is what I am saying. He clearly put all his eggs into one basket to try to get this RG title, it was obvious, even Nadal, as a crazy speciemen as he is, as this age of 36, does have his limits.

in general I agree. Novak fans and Trump fans overlap a great deal.

But for Rafa to continue harping on the injuries after a WIN...that's what Trump did.
he is asked about the injury what do you expect him to do claim he is fine or ask for the next question? he was asked about his future and said he can't continue to play the way he did this tournament.

Why doesn’t he just get stem cells?

It involves irregular bone growth during his adolescence. That gives him pain on ligaments on his ankle.
I don't think it can be cured via stem cell.
He has had correction orthotics that limits overpronation and thus has less strains on ligaments.
Any full scale surgery on bone or ligaments would mean career ending.

Wait isn't it a degenerate condition caused by a broken foot bone in 2005?

Nadal is saying all these things as a cop-out for Wimbledon? I mean wimbledon is in 3 weeks. I will be shock if he doesn’t play wimbledon considering he can even the second seed in that tournament.
Nowadays, without points, Wimbledon is just a tournament with bad weather, a quirky surface and some historical significance. Nadal would pass Wimbledon the same way that Fed passed on Roland Garros.

Everything doesn’t make sense. That must be a lot of pain involved to need two injections. How can someone do any physical activity on a completely numbed foot. I don’t believe any of this.
Rafa has been playing tennis for decades, it's very likely he has built up muscle memory with regards to footwork. That isn't surprising.

How can playing with an anesthesiated foot not be incredibly dangerous? Dr Bull says he played without feeling anything in his foot. If you tear a muscle or a ligament, does that mean you won't be able to feel it?

How can the doctors who follow him be ok with this? And how can the tennis governing bodies be ok with this? When they ban products and procedures it can be for two reasons: 1) avoid giving an athlete too big of an advantage over his competitors, 2) protect the health of the athlete. This Nadal procedure IMO clearly falls in that second category. I'm not very worried about the big rodent's health :p but it sets a dangerous precedent.

Oh for heavens sake. It isn’t cortisone. It’s a nerve block. A type of anaesthesia. Maybe do some research into what he has actually said before making assumptions and veiled digs.
I’m assuming you’re a doctor so I’m going to ask you what is the most common drug given to athletes other than painkillers? Injuries always come with inflammation, and cortisone is the obvious medication.

One thing is for sure:

after Rafael's victory, an ever increasing number of posters here are suffering from perianal hematoma and need immediate treatment.

True, kind Sir. But where is Tomoaki when you need him? There's no one on this forum is keeping a list of Nadal's imaginary injuries.

There is nothing imaginary about the cruel and never-ending series of life-threatening injuries that prevented the true moral invincibility of Her Bagginess and The Humble Bull from being universally acknowledged. But I just googled Tomoaki and found him, so you could probably reach out for the up-to-date list.

You assume a lot, that much is for sure. Never a good idea. Cortisone lasts for weeks, you wouldn't get daily injections which is what he was having.

I am just curious, maybe here is some medical around.. can you really play hours and run and sprint and turn with a sleepingn foot?
I cannot even stand up from bed when I fall asleep and my leg or feet fall asleep as well due to a bad position

the ‘sleeping/asleep’ is just poor English from him. What they actually did is numb it. Not the same. With an asleep foot you can’t play. With a numb foot you just don’t feel pain, which is why it’s a risk as he explained because if something else happens with it during play he may not realize until way after the match.

I doubt it if he feels he can play he will play considering the field and you don’t let an opportunity like this slip by after having won the first two legs of a slam.

What? Is he on Men's tennis forum nowadays? Does he still follow tennis? Because when I google I find this associate professor of political science by the same name LOL.

He is that associate professor of political science! I haven't been in touch with him since the last forum shut down.

Serious question, asking because I don't know. I believe for years it's been said that Nadal plays in sneakers at least a full size too small for his foot. Does he downsize because of his mueller-weiss? Or did downsizing make his condition worse?

Oh political science did ring a bill I must admit! I see he is on Linked In. I could connect of course but he might have gone off tennis, who knows.

Worth a try, I guess. I might do so too. I doubt he has gone off tennis but he might not appreciate being contacted at a work email, I guess?

He might think we are stalking him. LMHO but I do miss his humour. Bartelby sometimes reminds me of him.

Are you in touch with Chris? I am still amazed as to how he was able to predict Federer's future so successfully and if I recall correctly, that was back in 2000 or 2001 (I definitely think it was before Fed beat Pete at Wimbledon).
