Federer didn't just end the GOAT debate but unwittingly ended Tio as well.
It's a Fed worshiper's wishful thinking. Hahahahahaaa!

Right, so if Nadal had won Tio would still be calling it quits? I don't think so
Some people don't want the facts to get in the way.Right, so if Nadal had won Tio would still be calling it quits? I don't think so
U.Toni hasn't quit! He is going to coach Rafa and traveling with him until the end of this season. Toni was appointed as the Head of Rafa's academy inaugurated last autumn and he wants to focus on the academy next year, instead of traveling with Rafa. U.Toni also wants to pay more attention to his own family, his two sons are students of the academy. Toni discussed his plans with Rafa's father and C.Moya already before the 2017 AO final. Reaching the AO final was a better than expected result for Rafa.
I'm sure that's all true but you have to admit the timing of Toni's announcement right after Nadal's loss to Federer at the AO is interesting. I mean if Nadal can't beat his slam pigeon for the past 10 years it may be time to listen to some new voices, no?
You are wrong - Toni did not announce it "right after Rafa's loss'" ! He talked about his plans before that.
'A new voice' - Carlos Moya - was added to the Rafa team in the middle of last December.
Haven't you heard that Rafa hadn't reached the GS final since June 2014 ? His best GS result between June 2014 and January 2017 was reaching the QFs.
Toni did not indend to make any announcements. He attended a coaching conference in Budapest last weekend and answered to some questions about his plans for the academy. Italian publication 'IL Tennis Italiano' made a big fuss over his comments. He "talked" about his plans before that but he made a definitive announcement 2 weeks after Nadal's loss to Federer at the AO...
No, Toni did not say anything about Moya. According to EL Tennis Italiano, Toni said: “Until Rafael was 17, I decided everything, and then came the agent Carlos Costa, and then Rafael’s father got more involved, each one with their opinions. The truth is that with every year that passes, I decide less, and we have arrived at the point where I decide nothing.” Toni explained to the Spanish media on Tuesday that the last part of that comment was a joke and that it was 'normal' that the decision-making process be shared and that, above all, it was 'normal' that Rafa makes the big decisions....also said he felt like he wasn't in control of decisions the way he was in the past due to voices like Moya and Rafa's dad...
It looks that you don't know anything about what happened to Rafa during last 2.5 years....Reaching a slam final is great but it doesn't compare to winning a slam when you have 14 of them and you played a player in the final who is five years older and who you have had the mental edge over for 10 years!...

What I know is that Nadal lost a final to Federer at the AO which most people assumed (including probably Federer's parents) that Nadal would win. It was a bad loss for Nadal and a legacy match which put to rest the GOAT talk at least for now.
What I also know is you know nothing more about Nadal and what really goes on than anybody else and your insistence that you do is beyond annoying and silly. Your fanaticism knows no bounds. Doesn't it get tiresome even for you?
Pundits assumed that Rafa didn't reach the QFs.
I am sticking to the facts available to everyone.
YOU had him reaching every slam final and winning every slam for the past two and a half years. I'm sure you also thought that he would beat Federer once you learned it was going to be a Federer-Nadal final. So spare us please.
He's got a lot of work to do to better Federer.
I always root for Rafa - no matter what. It means that I send him positive vibes.
They haven't been working for the past two years! Have you used up your voodoo dolls/pins?
It's funny because I have the exact opposite feeling. It's gonna be a liberation for Rafa and who knows? It could help him feel more relaxed on the court. I've always thought he was a bit scared of Toni and that added unnecessary stress on the court.IT was during AO this year that in one of his interviews he said Toni will always be there ( can someone find the vid on YT?)
This is bad news for him and his fans. It means he will do even worse on tour. Toni left because his intimidation games with his player would not work anymore. They needed something more and he could not provide it. But the damage is emotional. If Nadal loses at RG it will be an slippery slope from there.
I agree that the timing for that decision is unfortunate. It does feel like the loss to Fed was a bit of a "last drop". Shocking that Toni would react that way though, given how loyal Rafa has always been to him !Right, so if Nadal had won Tio would still be calling it quits? I don't think so

Once again: good, GOOD riddance to perhaps the most annoying 'trainer'and/or family member EVER to be allowed staying along in a player's box, for over a decade, to the annoyance of tennis fans all over the globe...

"We" this, "we" that. Oh wait, I thought it was RAFA out there on court actually having to get the job done, not "We"...
Rafa - welcome to the world of genuine grown-ups, where folks are allowed to make decisions purely by themselves.
