Why would metely matching Federer make he the GOAT. He has a worse distribution for one thing.

Some people believe that Federer has had it a bit easier.
Nadal has had to face Federer and/or Djokovic his entire career. But Federer was able to win many grand slams before Nadal/Djokovic came.

Not saying I necessarily agree with that, but I do think there is some merit to it.

Fed has had it easier. He has a losing record to Nadal and Djoker in slams and piled a lot of slams against no competition while nadal and djoker were not prime.

Djoker is winning WC and USO back-to-back this year, then beats Nadal in the final of RG next year, then also defends Wimbledon for the maiden Channel Slam! Then wins olympic gold, but tanks US Open, which then Nadal wins instead! They both stay at 19 by the end of 2020 as some youngster picks up AO title in 2020 (my money is on Tsitsipas...) Here you heard it first here! Then Djoker reclaims AO crown in 2021 to be the first to tie with Federer, then nadal follows by winning 13th French to tie with both at 20 apiece, then Djokovic replies with Wimbledon victory to break Federer's record of 20 slams first, none of them wins US Open as we see first ever "true next-gen grand slam final"! In 2022 Djoker struggles in most grand slams, but manages to defend AO title for the last time, Nadal also struggles, but wins his last French Open! As a result Nadal edges Federer with 21, Djokovic finishes at 22 and is the ultimate GOAT! Wake me up from the cryosleep as we return back in 2022th summer to discuss this!...

I'm sure Djoker & Rafa would have loved to have a nice 12 slam head-start before the other two fully matured. It certainly makes a difference to the perception of Goathood.

If nadal wins this Wimbledon, it’s absolute huge for his legacy and the GOAT debate. He’d have at least 3 slams on clay, hard and grass. He’d be on 19 slams and will be almost certain he will overtake fed and he’d extend the gap with Djokovic too!

It’s a huge slam for all the big 3, if djokobwins he’d have 16 and back to within 2 of nadal and 4 behind fed, that would be closest he been to fed! Fed needs to win to fend off djoko and Rafa!

It’s between the 3 of them and these next 3 l-6 slams are gonna be so crucial

I mean, Nadal has 6 extra Masters and the gold medal (which is not super important but is roughly equivalent to a Masters)

Maybe those don't quite balance the 6 WTFs, but they make it close enough to have a discussion (If the slam tally were tied. Which is not the case.)

LOL is this your latest fantasy?

Didn't you say at the beginning of this year that Novak Djokovic was a dead cert to win the CYGS this year?

Nadal will eventually get to 22 Grand Slams. How many the other two will have when all is said and done is yet to be determined too but I think Federer isn't going to win any more Grand Slams, and Djokovic will win another 5 or 6...

Nadal beat 1 top 8 player to win his gold medal. Federer beat 29 top 8 players to win his 6 WTF’s

Clay GOAT, nothing more, nothing less that happens to be the only one of the three to have won multiple slams on all three surfaces

12/18 GS = FO
25/34 MS 1000 = clay

Federer's 19 grass court = Nadal's total on HC

0 WTF
0 GS title on rebound ace. He only won GS titles on HC in slow conditions.
0 defending a GS title outside of clay
0 defending a MS1000 title outside of clay
Most weeks as number 2 behind Fed and Novak.
Lack of consistency in GS many early round losses to random player.

Can never be GOAT.

If Nadal has more slams than Fed, then Nadal > Fed. But Fed will be remembered as the most gracious player on court, the most elegant, the most skilled. However, in history books Nadal will be No.1.

I don't think so.

People will remember Nadal as the FO king.....while his record last as we've seen in the past. Armstrong had won 7 tour de France and they were taken away from him.

While I think Nadal is the best player on the slow hard courts at the USO, he has had too much trouble finishing hardcourt tournaments lately to give him more than like a 30% chance there going forward. He needs to avoid long matches like he had against Karen and Thiem last year to stay healthy there.
