Impressive.
What happened with Osaka after she won two consecutive GS tournaments?
She had to wait for this third one.

Watching her against Halep. Only 18 years old, ranked 92 in the world and has a really big game. Great young player. I recommend you guys turning on eurosport, very exciting third set right now.

She made her first GS appearence in the main draw in AO this year where she made the 3rd round. Right now she is fighting for a spot in the 4th round of FO.

Great call. Well done.

I'm sure the tournament has been gratifying for both players, but it has to be weird to lift a trophy to the atmosphere of near silence and a visibly empty stadium. Just typing that last sentence sounds so surreal.

Over the past 2 decades, there were or have been only three players (other than Serena) who I thought could win 10+ slams: Venus, Henin and now Osaka. Justine retired very early and Venus hasn’t been able to sustain the high level that she had in the 2000s. If Osaka continues this way, she can get to a double digit number of slams.

Needs to upgrade her grass and clay level though

It's so unfortunate that her US Open finals match thread was deleted. The moderators might want to rethink their procedures for dealing with touchy subjects regarding racial injustice or there will be little to none Naomi Osaka match threads in the future. She is not going to be silenced and neither are most of her fans and or fans of the social injustice movement.

It would be great if they'd just ban the people making racist statements repeatedly

Honestly....it speaks volumes as to the way they handle stuff like this in this forum. It's funny because just when Serena is on her way out the door, here comes another black tennis superstar who is actually using her platform for a great cause to raise awareness. Way more than Serena, Venus and Sloane have ever done combined. Yet, just a few years ago. Naomi was adored by all because she took down the wicked witch of the WTA aka Serena Williams. Now, she is maturing and becoming more aware of her power as a rising new tennis superstar.......those same fans have switched up and just want her to shut up and hit the ball.

As to your other point, it is truly amazing how Naomi has immediately carried on the Williams Sisters legacy even before they retired.

She's a tremendously talented player and also very good human being.

I remember Serena taking a stand on justice issues a few times especially a few years ago in SC. It's great to see Naomi carry on that tradition and go even further.

Reading some of the comments from the deleted thread earlier today with people expressing distress because the US Open showed BLM art or for the things that Naomi and her boyfriend are standing up for makes me kind of sad for someone who is so out of touch with reality, humanity, decency that these types of normal things are distressing to them.

How much pain and distress must have been felt the last 25 years over 30 grand slams each time V or S won not to mention doubles titles and the Olympics.
Well yes, and another thing, she plays under the flag of Japan, where she is considered a superstar, maybe she would like to change their attitude to foreigner as well, maybe they are listening, and hearing her voice as well, everyone automatically thinks is about the US! Their other countries around the world who need to look at their attitude to nationality and worth and Japan is one of them

Welp.

Naomi Osaka will not play in the French Open, she announced Thursday night.

Osaka said a sore hamstring will keep her from adequately preparing for the clay court tournament, which begins Sept. 27 in Paris.

She is coming off a win this past weekend at the US Open but had been noncommittal about the French afterward.

Really good eye to call this all the way back in May 2016. I watched some Osaka highlights from back then and she did indeed already have impressive power on all her strokes. Just needed a bit more movement, defense and consistency to get to the top, and that's exactly what she did.
