Nike Air Zoom Zero (summer 18 release)

Looks like a Lunar Ballistec 1.5 replacement (max cushioning, stability & support). Nike's new midsole cushioning is REACT, which looks to replace Lunarlon as people complained that Lunarlon bottomed out too quickly. Not sure this would have an Air component like Zoom in it.

I’ve seen people give the name with Air Max as well. Is it a Air Max and Zoom combo? Or only Zoom

Probably just REACT, there new Lunarlon replacement. Air Max is no longer really used in their tennis line. It would be strictly REACT (which follows the Lunar Ballistec 1.5 model & their use of Lunarlon) or just Zoom Air.

Even the pattern is similar to the Lunar Ballistecs (The Nike logo across the front). From the flared midsole, it looks very similar to the Epic REACT running shoes.

I never did understand Nike's strategy here. They put arguably their worst technology/cushioning in their most expensive shoe (Lunarlon - Lunar Ballistecs), only a rear Zoom Air in their 2nd priciest shoes (Vapors/Cage 3's) & their best front & rear Zoom Air units in their mid-line shoes (Air Zoom Ultras).

I wonder if it'll be in the midsole or will it be in the removable insole (like in the top shelf LeBron and Kobe bball sneaks.)

I bought some of the extracted full length zoom units on the big auction site. I used to put them in the Vapor 9.5s under the insole. Was so plush!!!

If it's $130 and fits my foot, looks like I may have my shoe of choice. For now, the Vapor X and GR7 work for me. But I am a Nike ho at heart, so these have me interested.

The Lunar Ballistecs 1.5's were in the $165 range. If these are going to be considered their top of the line shoes I would anticipate them more in that price range.

Someone here stated they had seen a catalog with $130 as the price point. We shall see. And I can see Nike repositioning the Vapor as the highest priced shoe.

Not seeing it.

The Vapor line has generally always been Nike's light, fast, gameday shoe line. If you look the shoe companies they all generally have these shoes in their line :

1. Premium, top of the line, high end stability, support & cushioning line
2. Lightweight, fast match day shoe
3. Economical, mid-range shoe

So for example :

Adidas :

1. Barricade/Barricade Boost line - $140-$160
2. Ubersonic line - $125
3. Defiant Bounce/Barricade Club - $80-$100

Asics :

1. Gel Resolution/New Gel FF lines - $130-$170
2. Gel Solution Speed line - $120-$130
3. Gel Challenger/Court Speed line - $80-$100

Babolat :

1. Propulse line - $120-$140
2. Jet Line - $110-$140
3. SFX line - $85-$100

So the Nike line goes like this :

1. Lunar Ballistec (Discontinued, probably soon to be Zoom Air Zero) - $165-$180
2. Air Vapor line - $140
3. Air Cage line - $130
3. Air Zoom Ultra/Air Zoom Prestige/Resistance lines - $80-$100

They have the Epic React line but that looks DOA. Unless they plan on replacing the Cage 3 with the Zeros they probably won't be $130, otherwise they occupy the same exact space as the Cage 3's. I've never known Nike to be CHEAPER than it's competitors for their premium lines.

Competitor to the Vapor line has always been the Solution Speed, Ubersonic & Jet lines.

Not arguing with you, but $130 would put it at the market price of the Resolution. We shall see.

In terms of styling and tooling this shoe looks like a straight rip of the Nike "Air Infuriate" and Nike "Run the One" basketball models mashed into one shoe. These are old Nike basketball shoe models from a few years ago but they were EXCELLENT shoes in terms of performance and cosmetics and they performed well at quite a low pricepoint but they used phylon for the cushioning rather than new React technologies.

It will be interesting to see if Nike thinks it can get away with a very similar shoe priced much higher for the tennis market after adding the latest version of react cushioning.

Could be the first decent cushioning / tooling in a tennis market Nike shoe for quite a while. The react technology is already in a few Nike shoes in different markets and is pretty amazing. Depending on the way the carrier is designed the impact protection is great.

I urge people to look into Nike's other product segments. It's fascinating to see how long it takes all the product advancements and technologies they have to trickle down into their tennis lines. Tennis consumers are treated like second class citizens.

I don't think anyone would complain about a less expensive shoe, just don't see it happening with Nike. They are usually known for a price PREMIUM vs being less expensive than their competitors. Unfortunately a $130 price point would put it right at the same price/market of the Zoom Air Cage 3. Either they would have to kill off that line or they may cannabalize each other's sales.

Air Zoom Challenge II from 1997 had full length Zoom Air. But they were probably making a technicality with the NikeCourt brand name, which is true there has been no full length since the NikeCourt thing started (although the React had separate forefoot pods). I'm excited, all my favorite Nikes have had full length zoom: AZC II, Talaria, All Out Low, etc.

Sorry for being ignorant, what did the BFII have? I loved that shoe. Also loved the early cages.

It seems to me that even Nike Air Oscillate and air court Motion (Hewitt Us Open 2001) have full-length zoom air.

Oscillate had two separate units as did many of the Agassi and then Vapor models prior to the V7. The shank plates usually separated them. So technically not full length but heel and forefoot. So prob just a technicality on the term full length. I love a show with zoom in forefoot wether its full lenght airbag or two separate. I wish the V9/9.5s would have had some forefoot cushion. The Zoom Ultra has smaller zonal forefoot zoom pods, fine but not as plus and reactive as an Oscillate full forefoot zoom unit.

Agreed. This looks like a crossover from the Basketball line. I truly hope they do price the shoe at $130.

If so, this could be the winner Nike Tennis desperately needs right now.

A lot of the old tennis shoes had Nike Air, their regular version of airbags/cushioning back then. "Zoom" air has those nylon threads that go through them that supposedly make it more stable than the traditional Nike air. An advance as large traditional air bags were seen as unstable/squishy & why Nike went away from them in their tennis shoes (along with durability issues). The new retro Oscillates that they brought back had Zoom Air in the rear.

Let's hope. Although I've never seen a price DROP for Nike's premium shoes. It seems to leave a gaping hole in Nike's product line as it pretty much puts all of Nike's shoes within $5-$10 of each other. You pretty much have the Vapor X, the Cage 3 & now this all similarly priced. I guess they can claim the Ultra React line as their premium line, but that shoe seems pretty much DOA.

Those were the ones that popped and made a squishy sound when you walked?

Air Zoom Beyond had full length visible Zoom Air, no? That shoe should be retroed. Agassi's most dominant time (1999, although they came out at the end of 1998, maybe Holdiday?).

Upon further review, perhaps two different units (heel and forefoot), but still visible nonetheless.

Does anyone know what will be the first colors? Thanks
It is rumored that maybe even Dimitrov or Del Potro could wear Zoom Zero from August onwards.

Why? Delpo and Dimi are both superstitious af and wearing old models that they refuse to change from. They already have Sock and Tiafoe rocking them.

Those are the shoes that "crippled" me with plantar fasciitis. I remember the exact where and when....
