Nole sawed off all his racquets after the Olympics

Breathing in graphite particles can't be good for someone who has breathing and throat issues

Should've thought that one through

Novak parts easily with his frames. I was grabbing a bite to eat at the tournament after the Fed/Djok final, and there was a guy walking around with a Serbian flag and the racquet that Novak was using in the final. He was running around on the phone showing everyone the frame.

It was pretty sweet though, that's a hell of a souvenir.

great story, which tourney? did he win, was it cincy?

No he didn't. Murray won the tournament so obviously the likes of Djokovic and Federer didn't care that much.

This was after the Cincy final this year, where Novak lost. He's still a great sport though, gave a great speech, signed some autographs, tossed a racquet, etc.

I like Novak not only because of his level of tennis, but because he's the best "loser" I can remember in tennis. His crazy celebrations when he wins don't bug me because of how well he comports himself after a loss.

I sort of like this. It's a nice symbolic act...trying to purge some demons there and work out some frustrations. He gives away enough of them, I don't begrudge him if he feels like he needs to destroy a few along the journey.

Yet when Fed destroys a racquet once every 5 years, that's headline news and more proof of his arrogance.

he could have donated the rackets to kids who cannot afford it. what a waste if it is true!

If anyone "donates" his rackets to people and the crowd at his matches, it is Novak. I have never seen Federer or Nadal donate anything except their sweaty wristbands...
Plus, that is a true patriotic character, again, cannot be even compared to Federer who plays "for his country" so that he can add another thing missing in his trophy collection...

Agree murray seemed to be a great loser as well immediately apologizing to federer after the wimby final for taking the cheers and spotlight

That's right fedfu cks come in and start hating on nole for showing he actually cared about doing well, compared to fed who just capitulated to murray in a most terrible performance.

Fed had no legs after the semi with D-Pot, it was not a capitulation. Or you might say his legs gave up after 45 minutes.

How can you explain delpo beating djokovic then? im pretty sure delpo has far worse fitness and muscle endurance than federer.

lets not involve Federer or Rafa again where we don't have to.

Decision is not about donating when you can or if others are doing it or when the others are doing it, discussion is about donating vs sawing them off.

I think even Nole would agree that he should not have sawed the rackets.

But I am touchy about tennis equipment and will never find it acceptable, for any reason, the act of destroying any tennis equipment that can be used by someone else.

Fed is only true GOAT left. He does not grunt, still serve and volleys bringing back memories of how the old tennis used to be, slice master, always keeps his composure (he was hothead when he was young but then again who is not) and leads a saintly life.(even if he is not that doesnt hold it against him as a personality). just kidding :)

Sawing off his racquets? That's seriously psycho.
I always thought that his smirk often seen during his matches looked kind of crazy. Now we know.

Smashing off a few racquets in frustration during a match, that makes a lot of sense to a lot of people.
But cutting off his racquets with a saw???? The dude has serious mental issues. I mean, that's the kind of guy who might one day show up at the airport with his girlfriend's head in his carry-on bag.

Well there's the Serbian "chicken chop" for those who want to look it up.

He must have been hurt really bad. But to saw something he loves shows he does not have respect.

He should try to channelize his negative energy to something positive that will help him to improve.

Time fro him to introspect!

Can we stop bringing patriotism and Federer/Nadal into this.

What Nole did, he did in private, it's his own business. Must have been awfully upset. He acted well in public. This has nothing to do with patriotism whatever.

I've broken a racket twice in my life due to me being angry, so I can't really fault Djoker for this. Just sort of wished someone who grew up in an area with poverty would realize that many would love to have a racket at all. He should have given them away if he hated them that much. Could have taken his anger out in a non destructive way. That is the one thing I really and truly respect about Toni and Rafa. Toni worked hard to instill how lucky he was to even have a racket. Other than that, I don't care for Nadal. Despite being a Federer fan, I was also sad to see him break a racket at Miami in 09.

Giving rackets away is not part of the anger management.

Destruction is one of the most effective ways for venting your anger.

This was translated, so it could've easily been a joke by Divac just to use hyperbole. I don't really think the guy would saw off all of his racquets.

sometimes a tennis player just gotta vent. Good for Novak,

My favourite story about deliberate equipment damage concerns the one and only Marat Safin, a famous practitioner of the noble art of racquet-abuse. On one particular day after he had lost a match he should have won ( a distressingly frequent occurrence for Marin) he stormed off to the locker room. A few minutes later a security guard, startled by sounds of screaming and swearing and loud banging noises, entered the locker room to find out what the heck was going on. He caught Marin deliberately smashing every one of his remaining racquets against the wall, cursing and shouting as he did so. Realising after a few seconds that he was being observed, he paused, turned to the startled guard, looked him in the eye and just said: "Bad day!" :)
