Kyrgios is proof that in tennis it's all about where you are from. If the roles were reversed and he was from Serbia and Djokovic was from Australia, Kyrgios would be panned heavily in the press and seen as a complete joke in tennis, instead he is given headlines on ESPN, Eurosport, etc. and treated like he is one of the top 5 players and one who has won big events. His terrible on court and off court behavior is mostly overlooked in Australia and excused elsewhere. If Djokovic was from Australia, he would be worshipped like a king and excuses would be made for every controversial thing he does instead of the mostly negative media he gets. Amazing that Medvedev and Thiem, both much more talented than Kyrgios, go basically unnoticed by mainstream media.

If Djokovic's name was Noel Johnson and was coming from US or UK or whatever he would have been one of the most celebrated, popular athletes in the history of the modern sport. Instead because his name is "Novack Jokavic" and he is a Slav coming from "Siberia", despite all of his achievements, he is a subject of daily jokes, insults, mockings, fabrications, attacks in the western media. No wonder average Joe attending live matches is always cheering against him. With all the constant bad publicity it's not surprise at all. ;)

I think he would still be extremely popular with that name from one of those countries. His name actually even has a ring to it. It's all about where he is from and he's looked down upon. Sad but true. Australia, US and UK are all powerful countries with powerful mainstream media who choose and push the narrative they want and you are seen a different way if you are from certain countries compared to others. Sad reality. Plus, he destroyed the Fedal duopoly which are mainstream media's favorites. Let me not leave that important point out.

Djokovic is responsible for his own unbecoming behavior.

He has not been the ambassador for tennis that Federer and Nadal have been overall.

East Euro persecution complex is my least favorite genre of tennis discussion. Its the ultimate cope to deflect from negative scrutiny. Nobody cares or thinks about where these guys are from when forming reactions.

News flash, Kyrgios is widely panned and regarded as a joke. He gets headlines because he generates clicks and revenue, and because even if he shows up twice per year those two matches end up being more entertaining than most of what we see all year.

Kyrgios is like the Trump of tennis in the sense that he's beaten a few establishment figures and has a cult following that believes he's hypothetically capable of more than reality would suggest, but more than anything really needs to sit down and stfu every once in a while
