Obsessed With Tennis

i play kind of a lot now that i've gotten back into it after so many yrs.. i mean, once a player always a player i say.. i think once ppl become serious, it's not like they can just stop.. competitors don't just stop.. even when i was done with juniors and stopped playing for so long, everything i did had to be better and win during that time.. shooting pool, playing snooker, learning various games, academics, whatever

i'm not sure if i would call it an obsession for some ppl though.. for some, it's simply a lifestyle.. i mean look at sampras, you can only lie on the beach for so long and he kinda struggled with what to do with his time after he was done.. money isn't an issue obviously, but now he's playing on the senior tour.. i guess it gives him something to do.. it's his life

T is indeed a beautiful, mystical game. It's complexity and difficulty are what grab people, because when you do play it well, the feeling is indescribable.

Does anyone here feel like tennis is more than a sport, exercise, or a pastime? Like it's a way of life, an obsession, almost like... a drug? It's like that with me. I play almost nonstop but I can never get enough. I haven't even finished the current match before I'm dreaming of the next time I'm on the court. I spend 80% of my spare time thinking about tennis, and 85-90% actually playing. I talk nonstop about it, spend hours analyzing strategy, and spend many lonely days with the practice courts working on my serve.

Tennis takes away any social party life I might have, and the ironic thing is I'm proud of it:)

It's such a beautiful, elegant sport. The rush of competition, the thrill of victory, the crushing sadness of defeat, the heart, the soul, the competition, the perseverance, the struggles, the power, the athleticism, the mental and physical strength it takes to be a good tennis player... and it's all riding on you. You have no one but yourself to blame when you lose. What you put in is what you get out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!

Tennis has changed my life, definitely for the better. It made new friends for me, brought self-confidence into my life, gave me exercise, and became a way of life. It's something that I plan to continue until I keel over dead.

My former coach told me: "You can hide from yourself anywhere else. You can keep your feelings bottled up inside and never show yourself to anyone. But on the court that all changes. Tennis bares your soul for all to see." And I believe it!

Any thoughts on being obsessed like I am with tennis are welcome (or how you're not obsessed and how stupid or crazy I am for being obsessed:)).

I always say that people who are obsessed with tennis have to find a equally tennis obsessed girlfriend or wife, Mine is obsessed with literature.:-?

I think I may be obsessed a little because I ask girls I date if they play tennis, and if not, I try and convince them to take lessons..lol.

I know. It's a personal dream of mine to grow old married to my doubles partner, destroying people in rec matches at the parks.

I see it all the time and it's weird to long for something like that even though I'm so young.

I love it! My lady friend and I still play quite a bit together and it's great! She always makes fun of me for only having a few hobbies, and Tennis trumps them all! Without tennis, it seems as though everything is so dull and boring! I always relate things that happen in my classes in tennis! Physics and math is made a lot easier by fixing it up to tennis! :D
