Osaka retiring?

Naomi Osaka has parted ways with her coach and her whole strength and conditioning team, and there are rumors abounding on social media that she's played her last match. Could she really be retiring at the age of 24?!

We should be in a strong era with Barty, Osaka, Swiatek, and a healthy Andreescu having legendary battles. Will anyone else step up to fill the void? I have doubts about Rybakina's staying power, but hopefully I'm wrong about her.

She’s got enough money to retire I guess.
With 60 mil $? Easily.

I'd take a year off if I were her, try to come back, if she has the same demons I'd retire permanently and do something else. A multi multi multimilionaire at 24/25? 99,9% of people would kill to be in her position. What she has what other people don't have is the fact that she's still so young and has options. Do something that makes you happy if tennis is torture.

It’s not the craziest thing. Winning slams and being no.1 is what these tennis players strive for and she’s done it. Not all of them also want olympic gold, the records, etc in the same way. If she’s had enough, best to move on.

Tennis is too much hard work for most people, even when losing constantly its hard work :happydevil:

If she can't win anywhere but hard courts, can't handle criticism of that, or the other issues that come with living in the spotlight, and perhaps if her body is giving her issues she's sick of dealing with... Makes sense. She can be like Lady Kaepernick.

Borg retired when he was like 26 and he’s probably the goat so…
HAHA he's not even clay GOAT let alone GOAT :happydevil:
I mean nobody is GOAT, so not a criticism, just that its impossible for a player to standout above the others (except for Nadal on clay).

Unfortunately, this is just more ridiculous fake news.

We'll have to deal with the spoiled brat for many more seasons.

And when (not if) she wins her 5th slam, she will whine in the winner's speech about how "that nasty person in the 5th row didn't clap to any of my winners, I mean, how dare she?"

Not everyone is cut out to be a legend in their sport. Roger, Rafa, Novak, Serena have trillions of dollars and could retire anytime they wanted to. They're chasing more than just money. Ever since the WTA matched ATP prize money, it's never been easier for a solid female athlete to make millions. It's rather amazing to see professional female basketball and volleyball players waste their time in sports that pay nothing when they could be playing pro tennis and own the field and make millions. If you're an American with a tall daughter that is athletic and putting them into another sport but tennis, WTF are you even thinking?

Why not is the question?

1. More money outside of playing (Kournikova)
2. General disinterest.
3. 24 isn't that young for female players

If $20 million cash was sitting on the footpath in front of them, could the WTA elite summon the energy to pick it up?

Osaka's made more money than she ever thought she could make. She's financially set for life.
It wouldn't surprise me if she retires before the age of 30.

You know the irony of this is that Nick's comment about tennis players being "soft" is probably most relevant for someone like Naomi. Your post reminded me about their partnership and for whatever reason that bit of his came to mind.

Wonder why she would partner with somebody who acts like a bully.

Ok, check the source. Nick Kyrgios is going around calling players soft. Watch it, Over Easy.
